40 Chapter Forty

Once he left the Empress's face darkened exponentially.

'How dare she embarrass me like this!' she had lost all signs of her previous amicable demeanor while glaring viscously at Meng.

The emperor had started to treat her well because of this daughter, however now would he ever visit her again!

"Y-you ungrateful child! Go apologize to you father right now!" She stuttered out of rage and disbelief.

Everyone was trying to get on the emperor's good side, but this child discarded it like it was nothing. And over some useless abandoned prince at that! Wasn't she too useless?

When she first heard that her daughter had gotten engaged to that country-less prince, she had already felt aggravated. However, since the emperor seemed delighted about the engagement, she didn't punish Ru Gu Meng in fact she became equally delighted.

But now... what use was there in even keeping a daughter like this? Ru Gu Meng's future was destroyed, and her status was trash in the palace. She might still have the commoners fooled, however what did it matter when cultivators didn't like her!

All she had was her cultivation, which will slow down after losing the emperor's favor. It didn't matter how she treated this daughter anymore.

"What are you doing Ru Gu Meng hurry and apologize to father!" Ru Gu Xiao, the 3rd princess, who was standing at the side couldn't stand it anymore and yelled out.

Ru Gu Meng was always treasured by the emperor and it frustrated her that she never had a chance to shine. Ru Gu Meng had reached level 3 at age ten, while she only reached level 4 at age 14. Even if her talent couldn't be considered bad in front of Ru Gu Meng it was nothing.

Now that her sister finally fell out a favor how could she not take advantage of the situation.

Without waiting for Meng to say anything else she lashed out an attack with her aura. Her eyebrows creased in concentration as she directed it toward Meng. 'While the empress was still angry, she probably won't blame me if I hurt Ru Gu Meng at this moment.'

The 3rd princess couldn't see Meng's aura, however she refused to believe that a 10-year-old had reached more than two cultivation levels higher than her own.

More than likely she had on some kind of tool to hide her aura. As a princess it wasn't unlikely that she could get one...

The 3rd princess's aura clashed with Meng's at full force causing sparks only known to the two of them. Against her expectations Meng did not fly back after experiencing her aura.

In fact, she didn't seem to have suffered anything at all.

Blood started to rise in the Princess's throat, but she quickly swallowed it back down. With shaking pupil's her gaze toward Meng went from one of envy to horror.

'Did she actually reach level 4!?' That was the only reason the 3rd Princess could come up with to how Meng resisted her aura. Without a second thought the 3rd Princess quickly retreated trying to blend in with the other royals before regaining some confidence.

With the empress here, Ru Gu Meng shouldn't do anything... However, it seemed like luck was not on her side.

"Ru Gu Xiao! Slap your 5th sister for me until she remembers the meaning of family!" The empress demanded through clenched teeth.
