The value of a hero

This is a story about Doryoku Suzuki, a kid whose powerful and uncontrollable quirk gave him many problems throughout his life, and who unlike everyone else, his only dream and goal is to help his mother instead of being a hero. —The story mostly takes place at the same time as when Aizawa was studying at the U.A. —Bnha and the image on the cover don't belong to me obviously. —Any advice to improve the writing is welcome.

[A couple of days later] [Wednesday — 7:30 pm]

"I had to wear my old hero costume just because you guys dyed my suit pink!!" said a rather annoyed seven feet man dressed in a green military suit as he spoke on the phone.

The man was on the roof of the UA and was one of its teachers, the hero called 'High Command' or also known by his civilian name as Eiji Yamamoto.

Said man had long black hair that reached his shoulders and his eyes were always completely white, he was 40 years old and this together with his rough and muscular appearance made him very intimidating to look at.

"I-I'm sorry v-very much High command-sama, I-I will fix your problem i-immediately" said the owner of the dry cleaner quite nervous and scared.

"I hope so, otherwise I will have to go there and solve it personally!!" High command said in a serious and warning tone making the owner of the dry cleaner tremble even more frightened.

High command always saw the potential in people and always wanted to make everyone reach for it, so seeing him push everyone was pretty common.

"You have talent brat, a talent for the dry cleaning, don't waste it and try your best!!" High command said quite seriously and determinedly.

"Y-yes, High command-sama!" said the owner of the dry cleaner from the other side also with determination and cutting off the call.

High command leaned over the railing a bit so that he could see some students arrive and noticed something.

One of the railings was loose, which was not dangerous at all since it just wobbled, but it would be best to repair it quickly.

"You had talent little rail, but being a rail requires a will of iron and you are only, stainless steel" said High command dramatically as he waved goodbye to the rail like a war hero.

After that strange scene, High command started walking to the principal's office to quickly resolve the problem.

Arriving in front of the door of the principal's office, High command entered and the first thing he heard was...

"Hahahahahaha! Bitcoin went down like I guessed it, I already want to see the grim face of that shark mentality" Director Nezu said as he laughed like crazy and looked quite happy.

High command was already used to this and he just walked quietly and sat on a chair to wait for Nezu to unleash all his madness.

Director Nezu kept laughing in victory for a couple of minutes until he suddenly calmed down and attended to High command.

"Did something bad happen Eiji-san?" Director Nezu asked adorably, as if the mad laugh had never happened.

High command and director Nezu were co-workers at the UA for years and in addition to recovery girl and another teacher, they are the oldest in the UA.

"Director Nezu, one of the railings on the roof is a little loose and wobbles, we should solve it as soon as possible" said High command respectfully and with a much calmer tone.

"I see, I'll call maintenance, but they already fixed a little problem on my desk recently, so it may not be fixed until after school" Director Nezu said seriously as he called on the phone.

There is not much to say about the desk, only that it takes a good one to withstand the director's sudden movements and not wobble.

"Thank you very much Eiji-san, you should prepare for your first hero class with the newcomers" Director Nezu said after hanging up the phone with a happy smile.

"I already want to see the talent of the rookies, it will be exciting!!" High command said quite excited and expectant for his class.

"Thanks for all Director Nezu" said High command bowing respectfully and then leaving the room and going to give his first class.

Doryoku like always arrived early to the classroom and waited quietly for the rest of his classmates and teacher while he read his math book without having anything better to do.

There was another eccentricity in Doryoku's learning method and that was, he found it much easier to learn by himself than from the teachers.

After a few minutes, his classmates started arriving quickly, including...

"Azami! Help me with this math exercise please! It's the only one I'm missing!" Mirai said in a defeated tone and quite conspicuous as always.

'I'm afraid for the day that she meets Oboro or Yamada-san' Doryoku thought having a chill as he imagined that apocalyptic situation.

After a few minutes, Ectoplasm arrived and greeted everyone as always.

"Good morning students, I hope you have finished all your pending homework" said Ectoplasm in a calm and professional tone.

Mirai seemed to tense up a bit since apparently she hadn't finished her last exercise yet and after that, the class started.

Ectoplasm began to write about the new topic on the board while the rest quickly copied.

"Well, in this math class I want you to solve this simple one-function exercise" Ectoplasm said as he calmly pointed to the board.

At this, Doryoku raised his hand with a question.

"Go ahead Suzuki-san, ask" Ectoplasm said attending to Doryoku quickly.

"Ectoplasm-sensei, do I have to get the inverse function?" Doryoku asked curiously as he held up his hand.

"No Suzuki-san, that's the topic of the next class" Ectoplasm said without changing his expression but having a bead of sweat on his face.

"Ohh, that's right, so it intersects at y3+ and x-2" said Doryoku remembering his studies with Oboro and giving his answer.

"Right, good job" said Ectoplasm quite satisfied with Doryoku's response and dedication.

And after a few more classes, it was time for lunch.

Doryoku sat at the same table as always while he waited for Oboro and the rest of his UA friends.

"I have to control my addiction with the Yakitori" Doryoku said as he looked quite guilty but kept eating without stopping.

Doryoku looked around a bit confused not seeing Oboro or any of the others arrive at the dining room.

And that confusion lasted until he saw the students in class 1-A, who looked quite tired and run down.

After searching for their food, Oboro, Aizawa, and Hizashi sat in front of Doryoku while they seemed to be trying not to pass out.

"You look terrible, what happened to you?" Doryoku asked quite curious for the answer.

"Yamamoto-sensei, it's horrible" Oboro said as he seemed to be unconscious and leaned back on the table.

"The exercise, it was horrible, I don't feel my soul" Hizashi said dramatically as he tried to catch his breath.

And Aizawa well, he was almost asleep the whole time and now he was just sleeping.

"I can't even use my quirk or move anymore" Oboro said as he tried to form a cloud from his hands, to no avail.

"The night ran out of rock today" Hizashi said defeated as he hit Aizawa's back with a little force to wake him up.

They all started eating and thanks to that they seemed to regain their energy a bit while ate.

"You should have seen it Doryoku! I had to do push-ups while using my quirk to move some eggs without breaking them, it was horrible" said Oboro as he ate quickly to try to regain strength.

"I'm sure that only works for shonen" Doryoku said with blank eyes at seeing Oboro's attempt to recovery.

"I had to scream until I got tired, and do a puzzle while" Hizashi said in a very low, husky voice, making a rather comical scene.

"I don't want to remember it" Aizawa said as he seemed to have a hard time opening his eyes.

"Right now I'm just thankful for being one more student" Doryoku said with a calm and victorious smile.

At this, the rest of his companions looked at him with blank eyes and envy which was palpable until Oboro remembered something.

"It's true! After this we have maths, I want to go home" said Oboro dramatically and then smashed his face against the table defeated.

"I want to sleep" Aizawa said as he leaned back on the table just like Hizashi making Doryoku have a drop of sweat on the back of his neck.

'At least the hero classes seem quite interesting' Doryoku thought with a slight nervous smile upon seeing all the events of the hero class.

And after a few more jokes, lunchtime ended and classes continued to the misfortune of the future heroes.

"Azami! Could you come study with me in the afternoon, pleaaase?!" Mirai asked walking towards the roof followed by Azami.

"Sure Mirai, but could you help me with my Spanish homework? I'm very bad at languages" Azami said calmly as she scratched the back of her neck a little embarrassed.

"No need to ask Azami! It's always a pleasure to help!" Mirai said quite in agreement with the idea as she smiled widely.

Both friends walked a bit more on the roof to look around for Mirai's parents.

"Otō-san said that it would take a while for him to arrive, it would be best to wait for him here" Mirai said as she looked around in search of her father.

"Okay, I quite like being here" Azami said calmly as she looked around curiously.

It was already dismissal time, so there were many students leaving and some just waiting at the entrance for someone.

"Azami, you said you wanted to study medicine right?" Mirai asked quite curious for the answer as she leaned against the rooftop fence.

"That's what I wanted, but after seeing all the blood and guts, I think the best thing will be to study to be a lawyer like you" Azami said remembering the blood with a shiver and saying the last with a smile.

At this, Mirai smiled widely and jumped up in excitement.

"It's great Azami! We will be together until we graduate!" Mirai said quite excited as she hugged Azami happily.

"Tell me! Which branch will you choose?!" Mirai asked quite excitedly as she sat carelessly on the railings.

And at this, the loose railing wobbled causing Mirai to lose her balance and fall backward.

"Ahhhhhhh!!!!" Mirai yelled as she fell back in terror.

"Mirai!!!" shouted Azami altered, approaching the railing and seeing her friend fall.

Mirai felt the wind and the terror of the fall throughout her body as if time would pass much slower.

Being close to the ground, Mirai closed her eyes and...

She felt nothing.

There was no feeling in her body, not the wind, not the impact, not even the feeling of being caught.

"Itō-san, are you okay?" said a voice next to Mirai causing her to open her eyes slowly still quite confused.

Opening her eyes, Mirai could see Doryoku who was holding her with a bit of concern.

"Good job friend, so much training altered my reflexes" said Oboro next to Doryoku letting out a sigh of relief.

Doryoku lowered Mirai very quickly and left her sitting on a step at the entrance of the academy with a strange sigh of relief, but Mirai still seemed to be processing all the situation.

"Hey you, could you find the nurse of the academy?" Doryoku said to one of the students at the entrance, causing him to react and run to find recovery girl.

"Will she be fine?" Oboro asked concerned, noting that Mirai still didn't show any expression.

"She will be fine, as far as I know this is due to the shock of the situation, although she could get out of this one if-" said Doryoku a bit nervous as well as he analyzed the situation until he was cut off by a scream.

"Mirai!!" Azami said, who approached Mirai and hugged her with relief and happiness.

Mirai seemed to react this time, and all of her feelings of terror, happiness and relief appeared, causing her to start crying and hug Azami back tightly.

At this, Doryoku and Oboro breathed a sigh of relief, then smiled and walked away to let them unload themselves.

"And tell me, how did it feel?" Oboro asked with a big smile as he walked slowly because of his exhaustion.

"I swear to you that if this is a perverted euphemism for this situation I will kill you" Doryoku said with a warning tone and a vein on his forehead as he deactivated his quirk with the bracelet, which curiously released a bit of steam.

"I don't know what you're talking about, I mean saving someone" said Oboro shamelessly playing dumb as he asked the other thing that was more important.

"Saving someone huh? I guess it felt good" Doryoku said thoughtfully as Oboro smiled widely.

And after this both friends went home until the next day.

"Director Nezu there was a problem with a student falling from the roof!!" High command said entering Director Nezu's office and causing him to get quite upset.

"Is the student okay?!" Director Nezu asked, quite upset and looking for his phone number to call recovery girl immediately.

"Yes a student saved her!! But I scream because I'm an idiot I must have cordoned off the area!!" High command said dramatically and quite remorseful.

Director Nezu breathed a huge sigh of relief upon hearing that and still decided to call recovery girl to attend to the girl.

Recovery told him that she was already on her way, as a student had told her before about the girl, so Director Nezu was quite grateful to the young man who sought her out.

"Don't worry Eiji-san, this is my fault too, I didn't think a wobbly rail would end in this" Nezu said also quite regretful as he put his hand on his face in disappointment.

"Who was the student who saved her?" Headmaster Nezu asked thinking of some reward for his hero of the day.

"The students around the scene told me that he was a boy with wine hair and the girl's friend told me that his last name was Suzuki" said High command, regaining his calm and remembering the information he got when he was there.

At this, Director Nezu seemed to remember something and quickly began searching through the general studies files.

The Suzuki surname was very common and the wine hair not so much, but it would still be a bit difficult to find someone like that among so many students.

But Director Nezu remembered that interesting kyanseru, so he reviewed his file and his suspicions were confirmed.

"I was right, Doryoku Suzuki helped us a lot today" Director Nezu said with a big satisfied smile.

"Tomorrow I will give him a reward for making up for my mistakes!" said High command with determination wanting to remedy the damage that almost caused by his irresponsibility.

"No Eiji-san, I have an idea for his reward and maybe have a very talented aspiring hero too" Director Nezu said with a big excited smile confusing High command.

And so all the dominoes fell.

I like a lot this chapter, I don't even know how I wrote it but I'm quite satisfied with it.
