Before the outbreak of Judgement Day, because of Alaska's unique position to the east of Russia, the importance of the Aleutian military base was comparable to the one in Guam. The two constituted two major military bases, one in the north and one in the south, which played off each other. They were like the bridgeheads that firmly blocked Russia's eastward route.
It was for this reason that the Aleutian military base was well equipped with all kinds of strategic materials. In addition, because Alaska did not border the U.S. mainland, Skynet had moved his main body to this place to face off against the fierce retaliation of the Resistance forces.
