Chapter 89 Wine with Leon
...
When Leon returned home, it was already late at night. He secretly scolded Tony for calling him over and then telling him that his plan might not involve Leon after all. Tony expected something 'good' from Hammer Industries but wasn't taking any immediate action.
Previously, Leon couldn't help but wonder if Tony called him for something important.
But Leon was left speechless when he realized that Tony had called him over because Pepper Potts was working late, leaving Tony bored. They had few drink before Leon was driven away once Pepper Potts got off work.
Leon was clearly annoyed so he took all the good wine from Tony only leaving him with one, if needed for tonight with pepper.
...
Upon returning home, Leon realized he had forgotten about an unexpected resident in the house. Steve hadn't gone to sleep and was sitting at the living room table with a plate of pasta.
A little embarrassed, Steve stood up and said, "I didn't expect you to come back, or at least not at this hour. Do you want to eat together?" He remembered halfway through that this was Leon's house, so he was the one who should be there.
Leon waved his hand, placed a few bottles of wine on the side, and went to the kitchen to grab two wine glasses. "Shall we have a drink?" he suggested.
Steve shrugged and agreed. They poured wine and chatted. However, Steve felt a bit out of touch with the modern world, who had been frozen for 70 years and had many questions about the present day.
After a moment of silence, Steve said, "By the way, I went shopping today and noticed there was nothing in the fridge or kitchen, so I bought some supplies."
Leon responded casually, "No worries, buy what you like. I'm not too fussy, but I do enjoy spicy food, like Chinese cuisine." He added this, considering his original life as a Chinese.
Steve seemed thoughtful and suddenly asked, "Are you really an alien?" It was evident that Fury had informed him about Leon.
Leon didn't mind discussing it further, as they were having a casual conversation over drinks. "Yes, I'm an alien. Actually, aliens are quite common, at least in the Milky Way. For instance, Saturn has a moon called Titan, which showed signs of past civilization. They called it the Titans."
Leon wasn't making this up. Titan, as mentioned, was the homeworld of Mad Titain, also known as Thanos, with the difference arising from transliteration.
Even in his original life, scientists believe Titan has the potential for extraterrestrial life. It shares many similarities with Earth, making it more or less suitable candidate for future habitation.
Moreover, there are the Xandar people, the Kree people, and even the Skrull people. In the Milky Way alone, numerous planets host advanced civilizations, far surpassing Earth's technological achievements. Some of these extraterrestrial beings have even visited Earth, like Star-Lord when he was abducted as a child.
"So," Leon shrugged, "even encountering an alien shouldn't surprise you. The universe is vast, and it's highly improbable that Earth is the only special place, right?"
The scale of the universe is truly beyond human comprehension. The Milky Way alone contains over 100 billion fixed stars. The sun, a fixed star with its powerful gravitational force, controls the motion of the entire solar system, including Earth.
Now, picture this scale: Even if each of those 100 billion fixed stars were the size of our solar system, you'd still have a staggering 100 billion star systems within our magnificent galaxy. And the Milky Way's scale isn't even the largest; there are two '????' at its edges. These galaxies, including the Milky Way, form even larger galactic clusters.
Now, how big is the universe, you ask? It's enormous, far exceeding Earth's technological capabilities to explore. Even the Milky Way is but a tiny dot in the vast cosmic tapestry. So, in such a boundless universe, could humans be the only form of life?
Absolutely not. Humans aren't alone even on Earth, where countless animal species have flourished over time. And when we look at the universe, humans appear inconspicuous, even insignificant. But that doesn't diminish the significance of humanity.
Our history is relatively short, and we've entered a rapid phase of development, transitioning from the industrial age to a more advanced civilization in just a few hundred years.
"Nonetheless, Earth's civilization is steadily progressing into a vast space civilization. I believe Earth will eventually become a significant player even in the vast Milky Way."
As Leon concluded, he raised his glass, offering a toast to Steve. Steve was amazed, realizing the universe was teeming with life.
The two continued to discuss various topics, including Steve's iconic shield. Steve handed it to Leon, who found it surprisingly lightweight and thin, yet it had exceptional kinetic energy absorption properties.
A punch against the Vibranium shield resulted in over half of the force's energy being absorbed. However, Leon noted that Vibranium was not the hardest material in the Marvel universe, with many superior metals, including Thanos' weapon.
Steve even demonstrated his advanced shield-fighting techniques, which extended beyond typical physical capabilities, even allowing him to calculate the trajectory for the shield's return.
Leon, curious, clenched his fist and asked, "Mind if I give it a try? Let's test its durability. Wanna hold it."
Little did Steve know that a punch from Leon might be catastrophic. He was about to agree when Leon's cell phone rang. This time, it wasn't Fury or Natasha Romanoff; it was Phil Coulson.
"Leon, do you have a moment to help me?"
Leon, somewhat annoyed, replied, "Haven't I already repaid your favors? Plus, I'm not part of S.H.I.E.L.D."
Phil Coulson, unfazed, persisted, "There's a hammer I'd like you to take a look at."
Leon replied after only hearing word 'hammer', "Alright, count me in."
