Seeing the dogs rushing at him, George started to paying attention to their moves.

'They seem like normal wild dogs albeit bigger and stronger, so I guess it won't be too hard to deal with them.'

When they arrived at him, both of the dogs jumped targeting George's neck. He immediately dodged by diving down and making a roll. As soon as he was on his feet again, he turned around and rushed at the dogs.

Before they turned around, George's sword was already slashing one of the dogs making a deep wound on its back. The dog let out an angry roar while stabling. The second dog seemingly unaffected of his companion's status, turned around trying to attack George once again. This time, he dodged the attack by sidestepping and stabbed the second dog on the ribs. Without stopping, he used his other sword to cut the mutated dog's head immediately. Since the first dog was still alive, George rushed to retrieve his swords and switched targets back. However, the first dog was already half-dead from his previous slash, so George had an easy job finishing it.

'These mutated dogs were easier to kill than I thought...'

'So these things are half mutated? That's the reason they were so easy then. However, they do give out quite a lot of experience.' George turned his eyes to the other half-mutated dogs that were surrounding the people in the square with a wide grin on his face.

There were only around ten of these dogs left, so he charged to the one closest to him. It just took him a few slashes to kill it and grouped up with the rest of the people.

The one who first shouted at him nodded with appreciation the moment George arrived next to him, and they quickly start clearing the rest of the dogs. Soon, none of the half-mutated dogs was left.

"Thank you for your help, mate!" A voice called at George.

"It's no problem, but next time, please don't shout like that. It was my first time fighting with these beasts, so it startled me."

"I am sorry mate, but we have been fighting with beasts for hours now. We could barely hold on anymore so we needed any help we can get. I am called John. What's yours?" John said.

"George. So what happened here? I remember the village housing hundreds of people and these dogs are not that hard to kill. Where are all the others?" George asked.

The moment George finished his question, he could see John's expression turning sad.

"A few hours ago, the village indeed had hundreds of villagers, but the moment this trial as that system called it started, most of us were in our homes. The dogs that you just killed were mostly house pets, but they started changing after the time stop, and when the explanation from the system ended, they attacked us. Most of us did not expect it, so it was a one-sided battle. Furthermore, the only thing that can hurt the monsters are weapons from the system, so when some of us used guns, for example, we couldn't hurt them at all. When we started fighting back, battles were going on all over the village, but not long after, we all arrived in the village square and regrouped here. By the time we regrouped, most of the people were dead." John detailed George, hardly holding his tears back. "We all lost loved ones."

"I am sorry to hear that. I was on a cruise ship when this whole thing started. Fish monsters came out of the sea and started eating people alive. The ship sank, and I am only alive thanks to the system introduction, which preserved my life." George explained his side of the story.

"I'm not sure if I should call you lucky or unlucky... At least you are alive, that's all that matters." John replied, patting George's back. "Now if you will excuse me, I have to go take care of the dead bodies and the rest of the villagers."

"John, before you leave, I have a request."

"What is it?"

"As you could see, I am just passing through to your village. I only came to see if I can find some food and water and maybe a place to sleep for tonight," explained George pointing the sky which had already started to turn dark slowly.

"Head left from there, the second building on your right is a Motel, you should be able to find everything you need there." John pointed the way.

"Thanks and my condolences," said George an took a quick look behind John, to the survivors. After that, he nodded his head and headed towards the Motel.

He found the Motel quite easy since it still had the sign in front of the building. He wasted no time approaching the entrance, which was not just a broken glass door. George walked in, headed to the reception desk and picked up a random room key. After that, he headed upstairs to the first floor where his room was located. He could see a vending machine at the end of the corridor, so he headed there first, and he used his swords to break the glass, forcing all the treats inside to drop on the floor.

'Hm, this might be a good time to find out how the inventory works.' George thought, and then he spent a decent time experimenting until he reached some conclusions.

1: Each slot in the Inventory will hold a different item. If it is both chocolates but a different brand, they take a different slot.

2: He can store stacks of the same item taking only one slot in the inventory.

After figuring out the basics, he took all the water and soda bottles and stored them in his inventory; then he stored two different brands of biscuits.

As soon as he was done storing some necessary food supplies, he proceeded to his room and lied down on the bed.

'Since my fight with the beasts went pretty smooth, I guess I'm in no dire need to increase any of my attributes. I was able to dodge and wound them easily, so strength and agility are fine for now. My intelligence is also pretty high, and since I'm not using any mana, for now, it's better just to increase my constitution.

System, please increase the constitution by 2 points!'

'Southampton is about 50 kilometres from here, if I ride a bike, it won't take long to reach there, but if I have to walk it will take more than 10 hours. It should be easy to find a bike around here since most of them won't have owners anymore, but the problem is with the availability of the road. It is better to sleep and wake up early so even if I walk I'll reach Helen by tomorrow.' George thought before closing his eyes.

The night was uneventful, and the morning came fast, and George woke up and got ready to leave. As soon as he left the Motel though, he found John waiting for him outside.

"Are you perhaps heading to Southampton?" he asked George.

"Yeah, why? Wanna join me?"

"Actually yeah, I want to join you since my girlfriend is over there, I tried calling her, but phones don't work anymore, and neither does the Internet. All electronic devices are useless now. So mind if I join you? It is also better to not travel alone; we have no idea what beasts might appear on the road." John said.

"Sure, if it is until Southampton I don't really mind, however, we will split up after we arrive. I have somewhere I want to go, and I can't help you look for your girlfriend." George replied.

"That's fine, up until Southampton is all I can ask for." John agreed.

"Great! Then let's find a bike and let's get out of here."

"Unfortunately, we will have to walk. Bikes and cars do not work either." John voiced.

"Oh well, maybe it's better that way, exercise is good for the body." George laughed lightening up the mood before heading to their next destination.
