Chapter 16: Human?

"Your Father and Daffodil are coming home today," Mom said with a huge smile on her face. It has been a long time since I last saw her with that face. She is keeping a small smile or a straight face most of the time. That aside, Dad is coming home today. I was so happy but I just smiled.

"No need to hide your jovial outburst, Lucian. It has been a year since you last saw him. He is not around all the time and this would mean a lot to him if he saw you happy." She giggled and went into the kitchen. I quickly head to my room and dashed into the bathroom before coming out minutes later in my normal home outfits. I later went to help Mum in the kitchen.

"So how was your first day at school?" Mom asked while we were working.

"It was nice. I made a friend today at school." I answered.

"How nice. But I hope you are aware..."

"Yeah, I know mum. A lot of people asked me about my hair today. "

"I'm sure you handled that. So what is your friend's name?"

"Enoch." Although, I did not tell her about the part where Philip was threatening me or how people regarded me as something else apart from normal. I rolled my eyes at the thought of sitting next to Philip or Jesse. Those two are insane.

"By the way Mom, why is Daffodil coming home? Is it because of my father? " I inquired curiously.

"I got a call from her housemaster stating that she wasn't feeling too well. Since your father is coming home today. He agreed to bring her with him."

I rolled my eyes again but this time internally with a sigh. Daffodil was coming home, Great. Do not get me wrong I love Daffodil but she can be like mom or worse when she is mad. I leaped for joy after learning that she left for boarding school finally free from her shackles of pain if I offend her.

My Family has been a strange one indeed. Not because we have a father who is always away but because we are like the royal family of this bloodline. I might sound odd but this is the life of the royal family of the blue bloodline. My father is the king of the bloodline with his wife, my mom. He has two children, me and Daffodil. So I am kind of like the prince. Everyone expects us to be living in some kind of castle since we are the royal family or have slaves, servants, maids, or chefs.

Honestly, Daffodil was happy about that maid and chef part but I wasn't. I like doing things myself and maybe sometimes my way. She threw a tantrum when Dad refused to accept any servant or castle. He just wanted to live a normal life like any normal beast.

*Ding dong*

"Seems like they are here." My mom said leaving what she was doing to go and open the door.

The reason why we are staying with the humans according to my dad is due to his position as the king. There was a rule that any king of the bloodline should stay with the humans to watch the beast hunters. They are growing among the humans and it is worrying the bloodline. Though my Dad has a way he takes care of it, I wonder how he does it. He is rarely at home and often goes to the beast bloodline to see how things are faring there.

"Lucian." I turned to see my Dad and Daffodil next to my mother. "You are all grown up." I forced a smile. I was happy that he was back but he never had time to stay with us and it is due to his responsibilities as the king. I can't blame him for that. The awkward silence followed until Daffodil came next to me and hugged me tightly.

"Lucian, I've missed you." She said. It was probably the illness that made it this way. I looked behind my dad to see a man behind him. My mother also scrutinized him.

"This is Albert. As you can see he is..."My dad coughed out until I interrupted.

"Human?" I looked confused. If my dad was going to say that that means he knows.

"Yes. He works secretly with the beast bloodline to help us to keep an eye on the hunters. The elders agreed after much persuasion to finally have alliances with some of them after the former king persuaded them. He is also my trusted friend. " My dad explained.

Even the illness could not hide the fact that Daffodil did not like Albert. After everyone was comfortable, we began to eat dinner with the guest Dad brought.

"I didn't expect this much from you Ashley. You have been doing quite well for the past few years." Albert began. We all glanced at my dad.

"He has been with me for some years now." He asserted. Is it now he is telling us? "It has not been a lenient task. But with your help and much effort and hard work, things have been fine. "He continued.

"You have a wonderful family. This must be your wife and your son. You already introduced me to Daffodil." I continued to eat quietly glancing at the man once in a while. Maybe he wasn't so bad after all.

"He is the heir to the throne. He is probably always training and serious with the whole thing." Okay, now I laughed but stopped when a pair of mom's eyes landed on me faking it to a cough.

"I think Lucian would like to answer that question." My dad responded as I coughed for real this time. "Well?"

"I am not interested in any of those things and it seems like a lot of work," I said nonchalantly.

"I see..." Albert finally took a huge gulp from the glass of water in front of him." You are not ready for this then. Do you know what you are doing is a disgrace to the royal blood? "

"With all due respect sir, I do not care about any of that. I cannot be a king and father at the same time and yet not be there for my family." My voice getting louder.

"Lucian, that is enough," Ashley warned his friend.

"Ashley, what hope do you think your people can attain from this lad? He is not ready and asides from that he is a complete disappointment." Albert said harshly with a loud tone.

"Who are you calling a disappointment?!" I snapped.

"Enough." Everyone was startled by my Dad's surprising outburst. My Dad scowled at us both before leaving the dining room. My mom followed after him.

Without waiting time, I walked to my room and shut the door hoping that tomorrow would be a better day. It was all because of that human that Dad brought.
