She focused her thoughts on flying: imagining herself taking to the skies, gliding gratefully in the clouds. She could feel herself being lifted off the ground slowly, and when she opened her eyes, she was a few feet off the ground.

"Focus your thoughts on going up higher," Fern instructed.

"I'm trying," Velma said, looking down at the proximity between the ground and her feet.

"You are having doubts," Fern said.

"How do I clear the doubts?"

"Think as though you can already do it," Fern said. "Then when you keep practicing, you will get better."

"Okay," Velma said, closing her eyes.

"You do not have to close your eyes," Fern told her. "When you keep doing that, you won't be able to use your stronger powers easily."

"What do you mean?" Velma asked, opening her eyes. She had moved a few inches higher.
