Chapter Four

"Who are you?" Keith, Nora, and Mike asked in unison. "Someone we can't trust." I said sending Ethan a glare. Keith walked up to Ethan and grabbed him by the shirt "What do you want!?" he shouted. I watched as Ethan smiled and everything happened so fast. All I know is that when I opened my eyes Keith was on the ground bleeding. "Keith!" we all shouted, Mike ran over to Keith's still body and grabbed his wrist looking for a pulse "I, I don't feel a pulse." he said with tears in his eyes. I looked at Keith and saw something blue under him. "Wait!" I said as I limped over to him. "That one was to easy who wants to give me a challenge?" Ethan asked who was now in a tree. "Shut up!" Nora shouted as she walked over to Mr. Hunter, grabbed his gun and aiming it right at Ethan, pulling the trigger. The bullet hit Ethan right in his shoulder making him fall on the ground. "Dang I thought Nora was the nice one….." Mike mumbled.

We were all sitting next to Keith when he woke up coughing, his hands had blue flames around them and he looked triggered. "Keith?" I said. "You good?" he nodded in response and stood up "Where is he?" he asked with anger in his tone. The three of us pointed to where Ethan fell, he walked over to him and his blue flames got larger. "Woah wait we need him alive!" I shouted. "Why? The Jerk, almost killed me?" Keith asked. "Yeah I know but we can get information from him." I replied. "Tsk fine but….." Keith pulled back his arm and sent a punch towards Ethan's face leaving Me, Nora, and Mike in shock and almost in fear. "So is this an Irregulars true skills?" Keith asked as he looked at his hands, making the flames go away. "I guess it is I wonder what I'll get maybe some elbow cannons, heat vision, super strength!" Mike shouted in excitement. "Mike don't get to excited for all we know the only ability you have is getting on people's nerves." Nora said with a grin on her face. "Oooooh!" Me and Keith both shouted in unison. "Oh shut up! You haven't even discovered your abilities!" he said with anger and embarrassment in his tone.

"True maybe we should try to figure that out later but right now we need to handle Mr. Hunter and Ethan." I replied. I got up off the ground and walked over to where Mr. Hunter was. "Guys..." I said as I turned to face them. "Yeah?" They all said at the same time. "He's gone..." I mumbled.

It's been 5 years now, Mr. Hunter and Ethan got away. Keith figured out he has cool abilities, leaving me, Nora and Mike clueless about ours. And we're still outside the border but our camp was moved closer to the city, I don't know why though which leaves us in the dark about what's gonna happen. Since they moved our camp, our plan with the Full Moon and escaping backfired. The commanders of the camp also mentioned that a rule has changed, and this rule got me worried and furious with how Standards see us Irregulars. Anyways apparently, the Society isn't waiting until we're 15 to decide if we're Irregulars or Standards, now they decide when you turn 7, meaning younger kids are gonna be brought here just to find out that they're gonna die. It makes me sick, it makes my body flow with anger. When I think about innocent kids being brought out here to die not being able to even live the life ahead of them, I just wanna scream. "Josh!" I snapped out of my thoughts and noticed Nora was standing in front of me with a bowl of soup and bread. She noticed I was looking at her with full attention and handed me the bread and soup. "Thanks." I said with a smile. "Welcome, I'm not to happy about this rule either." she replied. I looked down at the food in my hands "All of this....it's just....cruel." I mumbled. Nora nodded in response "Yeah it is cruel." just then I felt a slap to the back of my head and 2 familiar laughs. "Hey Josh." Mike said as he sat next to me.

"Hey." I replied. "Yo." Keith said as he sat on the other side of me. "What were you guys doing?" Nora asked them as she sat between me and Mike. I looked at Keith for an explanation, he put on a serious face and I noticed Mike looking around and then gave Keith a nod. "We found something in the worker cabin." Keith whispered. "Wait what!?" I shouted. "Sssh!" Mike gave me a slight slap to the back of my head. "Right sorry." I replied, turning back to Keith. "We found this file...." He paused for a moment and took a breath "And the Society starting doing experiments on Irregulars but on kids." he finished with a mad and worried expression. "What let me see it!?" I shouted. Some of the workers and other Irregulars looked at us. "Uh Let me see the wound so I can bandage it up" I said trying to cover up what we're actually talking about. Keith stood up in front of me and put the file in my hand, it was an orangish brown color and felt thick, Nora and Mike also stood in front of me for cover. I took a breath and opened the file, There on the first page was a picture of my sister.

Notes - Once injected with serum, body heated up and had high fever, 2 days later - found dead in cell.

Mother got mad and tried to attack us, in the end she was shot and killed.

Next Target for experiment - Josh Kent

I felt anger flow through my body, tears started streaming down my face. I felt my hands getting hot and saw the file burn to ashes in my hands. "Woah Josh!" Mike shouted backing up, but I didn't respond or look at him. "Josh?" Nora said noticing that I was crying. "My sister and Mom are dead." I replied. "Josh I'm so sorry." she replied. "No don't be, it's not your fault it's the Society's fault and I'm gonna kill them! All of them!" I shouted. "Dude your eyes they're red." Keith said putting his hand on my shoulder. "Calm down." I took a breath and clenched my fists, I felt something hot in my throat but ignored it. "Mom, Lizbeth!" I shouted letting out a huge blast of heat causing one of the worker cabins to explode. "Dang Josh! You just discovered your ability!" Mike shouted. I looked around and noticed people staring at me "Look away or I shoot all of you!" Nora shouted taking out a gun. One of the boys stepped forward "You're not gonna shoot me." he said. "Oh really?" Nora asked. "Yes really." he replied. I looked at Nora noticing something in her eyes and a smirk spread across her face "Watch me." She aimed the gun right at his shoulder and pulled the trigger. "Son of a...." he mumbled putting his hand over his wound. Nora just smirked and walked over to me. "I discovered my ability to by the way." she said. "Man I bet when I discover mine I'm probably gonna have a cool ability better then all of you." Mike said sounding cocky. "Yeah keep dreaming buddy." Keith replied. "Josh you ok?" Nora asked sitting next to me. I nodded The Society is gonna pay for what they did! I'm gonna kill all of them!

That night I couldn't sleep, I was the only one up. I sat up in my bed and looked out the window and saw some Workers walking around. A van pulled up and one of the workers opened the door. 10 kids got out the van with scared expressions. I clenched my fists and was about to walk out when I felt someone grab my shoulder "Josh I know you're mad but we can't walk out there yet we'll wait till morning." I turned around to see Keith, and Mike and Nora who were sitting in their beds looking at me. I sighed "Fine but from this day forward we're gonna make it our duty to protect those kids." I replied as I sat in my bed. "Right!" They all shouted. The next morning I woke up to find 4 kids in our cabin, one of them looked like Lizbeth but it wasn't her.

~Flashback~

"Jo!Jo! I can't do it!" Lizbeth shouted in frustration as she threw her helmet on the ground. I walked over to her with a smile on my face "Lizbeth yes you can, I know you can." I said as I picked up her helmet. "I don't think I can." she replied. 'Don't think Liz just do it." I put her helmet on her head and picked up the bike that fell. "Now hop on I'll help you." I said. She smiled and I could see excitement in her eyes as she hopped on her bike. "Ready?" I asked, she nodded in response "Ok hold on to the bandles." she grabbed the handles and I pushed the bike forward as she started pedaling "Thanks for holding the bike Jojo!" she shouted. I laughed "I'm not holding the bike Lizbeth all I did was push it forward, everything else you're doing on your own!" I shouted back. She noticed she was riding by herself and smiled.

~End of Flashback~

"Mister are you ok?" I heard a voice say, I snapped out of my thoughts and noticed I was crying. I wiped my eyes and smiled at the little girl in front of me "I'm ok." I replied. "My brother they…..they took my brother." she said as she started crying. I picked her up and sat her on my lap "Who's your brother?" I asked as I rubbed my hand up and down her back. "His name is  John Meken." She replied with a sob. "And what's your name?" I asked. "It's Lanea Meken." she said. "Well Hi Lanea Meken I'm Josh Kent, and I'm sure your brother is just fine. I bet he's strong just like you." I said with a smile. "Really?" I nodded in response and she snuggled against me falling asleep. "I promise I'll protect you." I whispered, looking around the room. "Huh she likes you but not me?" Mike asked walking over to me. "What do you mean?" I replied with confusement. "When I tried to comfort and talk to her she ran away to your side of the cabin and stared at you while you were sleep." he said. "Oh." I turned to the other 3 kids who were sitting on the floor, they looked a little more comfortable with us around but I can still see the fear in their eyes. "It's ok guys we're gonna protect you." I said.
