Fate

I am currently cleaning the disaster I caused. It is a pain to clean all this up. Ice was melting and my bed was getting wet.

Finally I managed to fix things up. But looking towards the area where the disaster occurred, I couldn't help but think how I forgot about such a thing.

Since I was already awake I decided to go out and stretch my body a bit. Afterall the date with Lia is happening a bit later. I was unconsciously training with soul forge in my sleep. The gravitational and natural energy absorption increased after my soul upgraded. This allowed me to sense and manipulate the individual atoms in the atmosphere. It was truly magnificent. But I absorbed their excitations that generated heat. As excitations lowered, it started causing the particles to become closer to each other. Essentially freezing the surroundings. The increased lack of gravitational energy made objects, frost and snow near me to levitate.

I was laughing. I could freeze objects now. But the freezing effect is not fast enough. Unlike my fireballs my freezing takes too much time. The advantage was that all I need to do is absorb the atomic excitations. After I finished my workout, I realised I still had some time. About 3 hours to be exact. I decided to see if I could complete the essence storage by then. I returned home and started meditating to increase my concentration. My soul extension slowly started changing with my control. It bacame complex and was still changing. I was surprised because it was way faster than I was expecting. It seems that the upgrade made my soul increase it's ability to change. The reason my soul evolved in such a way was because I continuously tampered and increased it's strength forcing it to adapt to the constant changes. I am starting to understand that my soul is myself, so whatever I intend is what my soul tries to do or make into reality. It was even more so for me because I reached my origin and then continuously strengthened myself. The conversions I perform are basically me intending essence to transform into what I am intending. The intend has to be clearly comprehended which I do by using my spiritual field, otherwise it will fail.

After 3 hours I slowly opened my eyes. I could feel the essence filling me. It was being gathered from my surroundings and my body to the spiritual essence storage organ. It was being contained and there was no leakage. I could clearly see my soul was connected to a translucent white vessel by a spiritual bridge. The spherical vessel was being filled with a green liquid. I could control the organ. I can control the flow. I can release the essence for conversions. I did not move an inch. I concentrated and said..

"Fire"

5 fist sized fireballs appeared floating around me. I smiled as I intended them to disappear, they slowly disappeared as they never existed.

I got up and started getting ready for the date. The capacity of the essence storage will increase as I continue to increase my spiritual strength and get more quality upgrades. Right now I have enough essence to perform 74 fire balls. The essence recovery rate is also not bad. Maybe I should create multiple storages. No, let's decide that as I get stronger.

At the park entrance when I arrived I saw a pretty woman who I instantly recognised. We waved at eachother and met up.

"Huh..." I said as for some reason I felt strange seeing her.

My vision slowly changed as I started to see something in Lia. I can't really quite see it clearly yet. But after sometime I was shocked by what I clearly saw. A small white sphere generating a weak spiritual aura.

I can see other people's soul now!? I quickly tried to make myself sure... No I can definitely see it. Not just her but also other's in the nearby 10 meter vicinity.

"Hey you are not spacing out again, ARE YOU?" she said with a dangerous intend. I realised I should explore this later and not now.

"Lia, I am sorry but I have to say you look really pretty."

"What?!.... Lyle you look good as well." she said while blushing for just a moment.

"Well then, let's go." I said as I put my hand forward.

"Yeah, let's" she said as she holds my hand.

We went and grabbed some ice cream. We talked about a lot of things. Then we went to see a horror movie as usually this is what people going on a date in novels usually go and watch. I didn't think she would be so scared by it.

"Hey aren't martial artists supposed to not be afraid."

"Well.... there are many exceptions you kno...." she stopped when a loud scream occurred. Most people scream in horror but it seems that Lia is the type to become lifeless or become frozen solid like a statue. I thought about an animal playing dead when I looked at her.

"Ha-ha..." I couldn't help but laugh.

"Hey, stop that." she said while still shivering a bit.

"Don't worry." I said as I hold her hand in mine. It seems she calmed down a bit.

But then another scream made her hold my arm tightly. I suppressed my laughter.

After the movie ended we went around various parts of the city enjoying our time.

Finally the end of the date was nearing. We walking hand in hand talking with eachother..

"So your parents are like that as well, huh. When I told my parents about my plan to visit your hometown they also gave a similar reaction." said Lia.

"Oh, it seems they trust you."

"They really do.... Hey Lyle."

"Yup."

"Thanks, I had a great time. Like straight out of a romance novel."

"That's true... Well then I guess it's time to part ways....."

"Yeah...."

"Umm... Usually people on their first date don't..... kiss.... right?" I can't believe I said that. I wish to die.

"... Well..... I don't know." she said as she blushed and thought about it.

"Sorry about asking a roundabout question like that. You know what, we still have a lot of time, right?"

".... It's ok. I was also actually thinking about it. And yes, we still have time. After all neither of us have ever been on something like this before. So let's take our time and maybe next time we will do what you asked earlier."

Both of us cheered up with that.

"Yeah, I guess this is where we part."

"It is. See you tomorrow. Don't forget we are visiting your hometown, ok."

"I won't forget. Bye."

I saw her crossing the road. I couldn't help but imagine a future with her. Will this really work out? No, I should forget stupid questions like that. Let's believe that things will workout somehow. Oh I forgot to show her a magic trick. How did I forget? Well there is always a next time. I should also head home and start preparing to leave for my hometown tomorrow with Lia.

I turned back and was about to leave when I heard the sound of something that was getting louder very quickly. I realised what the sound was..

"(COP car siren.)"

I turned around to see a black sports car coming out from the corner and COP car was chasing it. They were heading towards our direction and in the middle of the road...

Lia hasn't crossed the road yet and is about get.....

My thoughts accelerated. I ran towards her. I was afraid to get hurt. I didn't like pain. But for her... If I could just get to her. I did everything I could think of. Kinetic conversions to push myself forward, improving my body movements and even pushing my body functions beyond the limits.

It was a good start but not enough. That blasted sports car is just coming too fast. Both Lia and the car quickly entered my spiritual field. I performed kinetic conversions on them to make sure that they won't come in contact. But I am still not strong enough to make a real impact. I realised the possibility of failure. The possibility of not being able to save her.

Lia has already realised her situation. Her face is looking horrified and.... Is she accepting her death? Am I really going to lose her? No, I can't accept this. But it's too late to do anything now. The surrounding people are looking at this scene with horrified expressions. A woman about to be hit by a car and a man running to save her. In my spiritual field no information escapes. But even then, why is it that there is nothing I can do?

At this time I understood that there really is nothing I can do to save her. Anger and sadness are taking over me. Extreme emotions washes over my soul. Then... Right then Lia looks at me and says with tears in her eyes....

"Lyle, I am sorry."

I screamed "LIA..."

At that moment something inside my soul was snapped. Essence I shouldn't use and an immense control of it was within my grasp. I felt the pain in my soul, a strong mental pressure assaulted me. But I didn't care. Even with this power I knew I couldn't save her but I.... I could atleast.... be with her. My life's dream, my parents, my close friends.... I am sorry. Right now I don't know why but eventhough I can save myself I don't want to... I can't explain my reasons but I can't say goodbye to her.

A violent kinetic conversion was performed at my feet which I used to shoot my self at her. Small cracks appeared on the road. Even if I try to push her away she would still get hit.

"Lyle.. Why would you.." after a moment of surprise she said to me while crying.

As I reached her I forced myself to smile. The car was just a few distance away.

"I just couldn't bear to see you...." I couldn't finish my words.

"(CRASH)"

The impact affected the both of us equally and send us flying. The people near were screaming. The physical pain was too unbearable but I didn't regret it.

....

The last I remember was looking at the pool of blood before the darkness came in. But I could still feel the warmth as I sensed my hand still holding the hand of my special someone.
