CHAPTER 12: Walls of the city

After meeting Sebastian, Claire went to meet the other person from whom she could get the information Daniel needed for his observation.

He was Capricorn Salem. He was the current Minister of internal affairs of the city. He looked over matters such as policing, emergency management, national security, registration, supervision of local officials, the conduct of elections, public administration and immigration matters.

He has vast powers which he got with some backhand dealings with the top bureaucrats of the city.

He is a determined, self-controlled, faithful and ambitious person and the only person he trusted more than anyone after Sebastian.

As for what was the basis of their friendship no one knows.

She left the defense building and took the hover car to the interior ministry located at the center of the city.

The defense ministry was situated at the periphery area of the city around which most of the illegal immigrants and slim people lived. You could say that it was situated in the most underdeveloped part of the city.

Meanwhile in the office,

Daniel was looking through the basic structure and defense mechanism of the city.

The city of Duravel is divided into three main parts. Each part is surrounded by a wall thicker and stronger than earlier one. They are all in form of a circle and covered vast area.

The outer most wall is a two hundred meter high wall made of tough titanium metal plating and was about 50 meters wide for moving along it. It is the first defensive barrier.

It can withstand at some round of attacks from a grade IV Level monster. It would take a couple of full power attack from Grade IV monster to take down this wall.

There are many warriors and master warrior placed who take down the monsters appearing near the wall with the laser cannon guns to eradicate them.

The people who reside around it are common people, workers, smelters, farmers and refugees. It also the poorest sector of the city.

Most of the organic eatables such as fruit, vegetables and other things are grown here.

This is a very big area. It covers few hundred kilometers and all is the most populated area. This area inhibits at least 50 percent of the total population of the city of Duravel.

The city is very prosperous as compared to some other cities around it because of the river at its east and this provides fresh water for drinking and irrigation.

So through their airships they could transport excess goods for trade and earn much which they have invested on the walls for defence.

Most of the factories which produce everyday products are situated in this area. The military and civilian industry are differentiated with military ones being closer to the second wall.

Although they lack men for protection but all the defence weapons are high-tech ones which can be used to combat anyone below third grade monsters.

The monsters which the guards at the wall eradicate through long range laser cannon were the variant animals who changed after the day of apocalypse like rodents (rats) , snappers (lizards) , big horned stag, fire horse and occasionally big ones like saber tiger, Leo (lion) , gogalith ( elephant).

The animals after that faithful days became more powerful, ruthless and their hunger of humans was exponentially increased. It seemed like they were possessed with demons who hate humans or something similar in an innate level.

The rats in the past are now called as rodents. The average rats were 32-45 cm long and weighs 250 grams but after mutation they changed.

Their reproductive ability didn't degrade but their size, weight, strength and physique changed completely.

They were now 3-4 m long in length and 1m high from ground to head but if they stand on their feet they were as tall as 5 m high. They weigh about 20 kg and their hands and legs have nails as sharp as razor knife and were about 15 inches long.

With them they could easily cut down trees as thick as 3 m wide and one can imagine how a human would suffer under such an attack.

Their tail was as strong as steel itself and could smash rocks as big as themselves easily.

They have tougher skin which was bullet proof and would require 15 mm bullet at a speed of about 600 m/s to penetrate the skin and injure him.

The most common attribute found in rats are ground( because they mostly reside underground ) and darkness ( for their powers increase greatly in the dark).

They are very fast attackers and could easily take down weaker animals like leopard, panther but leo, sabertooth abd gogalith are feared by them as their powers vastly surpasses them.

Similarly other animals have changed over the course of time.

The guards never dared to attack the roaming leo, sabertooth or gogalith because if they ever attacked the wall there would be massive casualty to humans and even then the chances of victory would be small.

The defense building is situated near the the second wall About few kilometers away from it.

The second layer of protection, the wall is made up of tungsten diamond metal alloy.

In the past, the scientists created a new alloy to be the strongest ever, it was an alloy of diamond and tungsten. This was 100 times more powerful than titanium and could withstand continued attack of grade four(IV) monster for a day and only a couple full powered attack of grade five (V) monster.

The building here are mostly comprised of house of engineers, doctors, next designers, drivers, officer level military, higher city guard units, teachers and other slightly higher epsilon people.

Here are schools, colleges , institutes, hospitals, trade centers and other normal day to day building are here.

It is a hub of people in the city. It second wall covers about 200 kilometer area and has 30 percent people of the city residing here .

And finally, the third wall is made of the starlight metal which come from the meteorite which hit Solaris a thousand year ago. It is much stronger than other metals and can absorb the attack ( about 40 percent of attack).

This wall can hold back a grade 5 monsters for half a day. Because of it's efficiency it's is very costly and couldn't be afforded by places other than a kingdoms capital but the trade income for countless years made the people of city of Duravel afford this costly metal for their protection.

This protection made them lazy about training guards and the funds were reduced over the years but Capricorn at the ministry was able to procure them enough funds to sustain the wiring of the defense units.

And behind it's secure wall are the government building such as town hall, ministry of internal affairs, health, etc offices as well as residences of top engineer, doctor , scholar, scientist and other VVIP of the city.

And this is also the destination of Claire.
