Fourteen

"Kyle, did something happen?" the alarmed voice of my aunt gave me the encouragement that I needed.

"Sorry for calling in so late. I wanted to ask another favor…." I trailed off as I made my turn toward the street leading to the house.

"Are we on speaker?" she asked after a brief silence on her end.

"Yes. I'm driving."

"Why are you driving so late at night? Where have you been?" The worry in her voice grew.

"If I told you, you'd kill me, but that is not why I called," I stated evasively, pausing again to park the truck in the garage. "I need your help finding another lawyer. This time, I need one in Montana."

"Did something happen to you? Did you get arrested?" She pressed.

I grabbed the phone and placed it against my ear after turning off the engine. "Don't worry about that. The officer let me off with a warning, but that is not why I called," I admitted and sighed in defeat. "The lawyer isn't for me. It's for a friend."
