The real meaning of love [Editing]

Lisa has spent years loving Al from a distance—except that distance is just a few inches away, disguised as friendship. Every inside joke, every casual touch, every stupid argument is a reminder that he’s right there, but never hers. She’s convinced herself that being close to him, even as just a friend, is enough. Until it isn’t. Because one day, Al starts looking at someone else the way Lisa has always looked at him. And suddenly, she has to learn how to swallow heartbreak in silence. Lucas has spent years loving Lisa from the shadows, watching her chase a boy who never looks back. He’s always been the one to pick up the pieces, the one to listen to her late-night rants, the one who stays. He’s accepted that he’ll never be the reason for her smile, but when Lisa’s heart starts to break, he sees an opening. Maybe—just maybe—he can be the one to heal it. But love is never that simple. Because Al isn’t as blind as he seems. And maybe Lisa isn’t as indifferent to Lucas as she’s always pretended. Feelings are messy. Timing is cruel. And when hearts collide, someone always gets hurt. The real question is: Will Lisa finally learn the real meaning of love, or will she destroy it before she even gets the chance? *** Hey, it's your author here:> P.S: the cover picture doesn't belong to me. Hope y'all enjoy your time reading it

Lisa

"What's adorable about it? You are going to have a girlfriend, somewhere in the future." I say, embracing the hoodie he's given me.

I can sense him nod, from the side, and what seemed like he was smiling too. A bit. "You'll have a boyfriend, too. In the future somewhere," I hear him say.

"Oh please, you don't have to stress about that," I smile.

"Why?" He asks, fidgeting a bit. "Did you find someone in these years?"

I look down and sense my body pretty much freezing at this point. Winter has always been one of those weathers, I have a hard time coping with it.

"I guess."

I haven't gotten an answer for some time. 'Is he upset?' Having the urge to look at him, I want to throw a question at him. But, that's when the door slides open.
