Born of the wastelands, Spheris Arnadel, a young skilled thief, finds himself subject to a twist of fate when he steals a powerful relic and becomes a Bearer — humans gifted with powers from the Gods. As a punishment for his theft, he is cast into an otherworldly realm alongside other Bearers, where he faces off against monstrous beasts and powerful enemies. Yet, in his determination to return to the Continent and save his dying mother, Spheris is hell-bent on surviving the abyssal world. Even if it means giving his body to the Dark God whose powers he had stolen... even if it means losing all of his humanity.
After a long trek, Spheris and Lirael left the main building, walking through a large field that divided it with another building — the Dormitories.
When they entered, Spheris quickly registered it as a sprawling labyrinth of interconnected halls and staircases, each one leading to clusters of rooms that housed the Academy's diverse student body.
Lirael explained the system as they walked, her voice a comforting guide through the complexity.
"The dorms are organized by Power tier and specialty," she began. "Each floor is divided into wings, and each wing is dedicated to a different branch of study. The lower floors are for novices only, no matter the Power or the speciality, while the upper floors house the advanced students. You'll see that your floor mates have similar elemental powers such as you. You'll be in the second wing."
'Wings,' Spheris spoke in his thoughts. 'And you said this place was different from the Continent.'
