Chapter 77

It may have been “bad parenting” to give her so much leeway, but Terrell and Dakota simply couldn’t make themselves be terse with Kenna. Pardoning the brief outbursts of anger or irritation, she was practically an angel. She cleaned up after herself, rarely asked for anything or complained, and didn’t get in the way.

Probably a byproduct of the type of life she’d had so far. Hell, pretty much everything she did could be tied to an abusive household, the deaths of her family members, or her eldest brother’s protectiveness. Knowing that, how could either of them insist on a lifestyle with tons of meaningless rules and regulations? She wasn’t a soldier or a bad kid. She was just a little girl who’d seen more sadness than most adults.

Sighing, Dakota reluctantly let Terrell go. “Tonight, I want you to myself,” he made himself say.

Terrell flashed a bright smile. He kissed Dakota again. “I’ve been neglecting you, haven’t I?”
