True Nature

Oliver just finished taking a shower to wipe all the dirt and blood from his body he put on some black sweatpants with a red and black hoodie.

He was about to leave the bathroom when he saw himself in the mirror and saw something different about his hair.

'System why is my hair turning white?' Oliver asked while looking at the three strands of white-colored hair mixed in with his black one.

[It could be because the host is a Metahuman or because of his revival.]

'I see.' He nodded and started to head to his room. His sister made him feel a little bit better, but he still had a lot of anger and guilt built up in him that he wanted to let out.

However, he knew he couldn't. He didn't want to worry his sister and punching random stuff wouldn't make his anger go away.

Oliver was walking to his room when he suddenly got an idea.

"Wait! System you revived me right. Doesn't that mean you can bring my mom back too?" Oliver asked hopefully.

[System Cannot]

"Why not you brought me back!"

[Host and System were being connected before the Host died.]

[Host mother is already dead.]

[She will not be able to come back.]

"No that's not true." Oliver couldn't accept that, he was brought back to life, so there had to be a way for him her back.

He was a Metahuman now and they were able to do things people thought were impossible before maybe there might be a way for him to bring her back, but the system kept crushing his hopes.

[The Host is in denial because of his guilt.]

[It was not the Host's fault for his mother's death.]

[System suggests the Host accepts this fact a lets her rest in peace.]

"How can you say it's not my fault I'm the reason they came here!"

The system didn't respond to Oliver's question which made him angrier.

"You can revive me back from the dead, but can't give me an answer for my question," Oliver scoffed.

Knowing that he couldn't take his anger out on anyone right now he decided to start insulting the system.

Oliver sent insults to the system for a straight minute before stopping.

He got tired of speaking to himself and decided to go to his room to lay on his bed to relax.

He faced the ceiling, but his hands covered his eyes. He felt that the light in his room was too bright, but he was too lazy to turn it off right now.

So much has happened in one day for him and he just wanted to sleep, but he knew he couldn't.

There were over a dozen dead bodies in his house making it smell bad. His house wasn't habitable anymore, they had no guardian to look after them as his parents were dead and he doubt they had any relatives.

The orphanages were a no as from what he learned in the slums almost all of them were corrupt using children to steal money or for drug businesses.

A foster home was a no-go as most people only adopted powerful orphans to bring up their status and he might be separated from his sister.

'I almost forgot about the enforcers. Well, they are always late so I have time.' He put that thought to the side immediately.

The enforcers were humans or low-grade MetaHuamns who enforced the law. (Basically the Police.) However, they rarely ventured into this part of the city as they tried to make connections with the bigshots of this city.

'Then there's this.' Oliver thought while touching the white sun on his necklace. The item which the system said to have kept his powers dormant. 'Why would mom give this to us.'

When Oliver turned six the white sun necklace was his birthday present. He remembered his sister got a black moon necklace on her sixth birthday too. He couldn't understand why his mother would give them both something that would stop them from awakening.

'Well, it's not like I can find out. There is no point in telling Ellie either seeing how she awakened.' Although Oliver wanted to know their mother's reasoning for her actions it was too late and he felt no need to tell Elizabeth about it could hurt her. While he was thinking about Elizabeth Harold's face appeared in his mind.

'I killed someone again. Why does it feel so different though?' Oliver thought while removing his hands from his eyes and staring blankly at his ceiling.

When Oliver killed Joe he remembers feeling a variety of emotions however he couldn't focus on them.

Now that he has killed again and could focus on what he was feeling he realized that besides the feelings of guilt, anger, and sadness from his mother's death.

The feeling of betrayal towards his so-called friends he felt nothing from Harold's death.

'Is it because he killed me? Or maybe me dying has something to do with it. Whatever I have too much to do right now and I can't think about something like this right now.' Oliver put those thoughts to the side and decided to distract himself with the system.

"System shows all of my notifications that I didn't see yet."

Oliver watched as three panels appeared in his vision.

-----------------------

[Host has killed a Pure Human +20 Xp]

[Host has Leveled up]

[+1 Point to each of Host Attributes]

[Host has gained +1 Free Attribute Point]

[Host has gained +1 Free Skill & Ability Point]

[Host has Unlocked Quests]

--------------------

Oliver looked over everything and realized he forgot what his new stats would be.

'Looking at everything one at a time is a hassle.' Oliver thought before coming up with a solution that could make his life easier.

"System is there a way to make a new panel that would have my stats and attributes, on one page instead of two." He asked in a hopeful tone.

Oliver waited for a few moments before the new system screen appeared.

---------------------

"Thanks, system." Oliver looked at his data and saw he gained more ESP energy which was a blessing because being only able to use 2 abilities before running low was annoying.

Then his level changed from 0 which he was happy about however the jump from 10 XP to 100 scared him a little.

'I should be more balance out my attributes.' Oliver thought thinking of the future. 'Then I have to figure out what to specialize in. A weapon specialist would be the best idea because of my weapon creation powers then I have my solar and spatial manipulation.'

'Then I also have my enhancements which can add 5 points to my maximum strength and speed. For now, I need to find a safe place to test all my abilities and skills then I should learn how to use all of them.'

Although Oliver could feel each of his abilities and skills and could use them at any time he only had a basic understanding of them.

Oliver knew that it was important for Metahumans to understand their powers and their uses or they could end up wasting their potential.

'For now, I guess I'll work on gaining attribute points to balance out my attributes and use my skill points for my enchantment skills.' He decided that it would be best to balance out his attributes when he can and use his skill points for his speed enhancement since he believed that being faster would be the best option for now until he left the city.

"Oh, right. I unlocked the quest tab. Wait, system if just unlocked quest now how was I supposed to level up before having them?" Oliver asked confusedly.

The only reason he could hit level one was that he killed Harold, but what if he didn't how would he level up.

[Host would have to kill a living creature.]

Silence descend in Oliver's room as he heard the response of the system.

It was true he felt nothing when killing Harold that he didn't know if that was true for anybody else and the thought of killing people for XP left a bad taste in his mouth.

"Why would you want me to kill someone system?" Oliver questioned with anger.

Although he was glad that the system brought him back to life and awakened his powers he was still mad at it for not being able to help him revive his mother and he was still angry.

Now it was saying he had to massacre people for XP he would have to reconsider his relationship with it.

[Getting to level one was a test for the Host.]

[System needed to know if Host would be able to do anything to have power.]

[Although the test didn't go the way the system wanted. The system has confirmed that the host will not have any hesitation to kill.]

"What do you mean I killed him to protect my sister!" Oliver stood up while yelling at the screen in front of him.

[Host is a Metahuman while the man was a normal human. The host could have made the man let go, but the Host decided to kill him.]

[System suggests Host becomes more honest with himself.]

[Once the Host is honest with himself his mind will become calmer.]

[System suggests the Host meditates on himself to find out his true nature.]

[This will allow the system to help the Host get stronger so that he will not lose any more precious people.]

[Elizabeth for example.]

He wanted to rebut the system, but he couldn't everything the System was saying was right and when it mentioned Elizabeth he started to take its words seriously.

He slowly sat back down with a pondering expression. "What is my true nature…" He mumbled to himself.

Oliver felt like something changed in him after he died. No, it was before he died, when he took his first life.

He could still remember as Joe died he smiled at the man. Then now he didn't hesitate to kill Harold even when could have easily overpowered him to let go.

'What's happening to me? What am I? A cold-hearted killer? A protective brother? A thief. I don't know.'

[System suggests Host to not overthink there is a more troublesome problem at hand.]

"What now!" Oliver shouted. Annoyed at the thing that interrupted his thinking and self-realization.

[The Host is being surrounded by people with I'll intentions.]

Oliver had to look at the message again to make sure he saw it right and he didn't hesitate to voice out a curse when he heard the voice from outside.

"WE ARE THE ENFORCERS! COME OUT NOW CRIMINALS! WE HAVE YOU SURROUNDED! IF NOT IN THE NEXT MINUTE WE WILL BREAK IN AND WILL NOT HESITATE TO SHOOT!"
