The Pheonix Princess

Princess Alexandra of the Griffin Kingdom; a throwaway character made in the hit novel series "The Charming Prince" for the sake of elevating the Prince's character. A character who was a caged bird, whom the prince showed the light to. And the person who was mercilessly thrown away by the writer once he felt like the hero needed a reason to get revenge. Although all of this seemed silly writing to me when I was reading this bizarre story back in the day, I couldn't think of it in the same way since I became this sacrificial princess. What will happen to me now that I'm faced with this immense predicament? Will anyone help me or will I have to battle this all alone?

The wedding gown

I had to play it smart this one time. I can't act like an idiot and mess up the only chance at gaining important information. I mean,  I really wanted to do the cliche stuff and ask my name and stuff, but that seemed stupid to me. Like, who asks their name to someone else out of nowhere?

So, I started thinking about questions that I should ask her, but my brain took way too long to formulate anything substantial and we ended up sharing a very awkward five minutes.

Since it seemed like I wasn't gonna make any moves, the woman before me did it for me.

"Your highness, what happened? Why weren't you opening the door? Don't you know that today is an important day?" The woman, who looked like she was my maid, scolded me.

Something seemed weird to me. I mean, although she was using fancy terms like 'Your Highness', it didn't seem like she had one ounce of respect for me. I wonder why that was so.

Anyhow, I didn't have a proper answer to what she said, so I decided to act dumb. "What do you mean?" I asked while looking all innocent.

The woman sighed. "Ugh. Not again! How am I supposed to put this through that thick skull of yours, huh? It's your wedding today and you're still gonna act like an idiot, huh?"

It was a complete turnaround at that point. Well, not quite. It just happened to be that the little respect she showed me, in the beginning, was thrown out of the window as well.

But with that, I understood that even though I seem to have a higher social standing, I didn't get the respect that I deserved. Like, she called me an idiot. It's possible that the previous owner of this body had some mental issues which led to these people treating me like this. And that would mean that I might just be in that cliche trope where the heroine who acted like an idiot for the longest time, regains her composure and takes revenge on everyone or something.

Why do I think that this character is the heroine? Well, it's the trope and the fact that I can't explain the beauty of this person. I mean, that's the only logical explanation, right?

Now, what this means is that I have free reign over my mouth and my actions. No one would even care if I said random stuff just like what happened right now.

And thus I decided to ask every stupid question that was in my mind. So, the first one was really obvious. "What is my name? Where am I?" I asked the maid who looked annoyed at that point.

The thought behind my question was really simple. I believed that this character was someone from the novels that I had read in my previous life. Now that I got a rough idea of the plot, albeit that being a very rough idea, I believed that if I got my character's name, I would be able to pinpoint the exact novel that I have reincarnated into.

"Oh, goodness! Has this woman dumbed down to that level?" The maid tightly grabbed my hand, without concerning whether I would find it painful. And it didn't seem like she was in any mood to answer my question as she dragged me through the hall outside while everyone watched.

I could see it in their eyes. It wasn't the first time that they were seeing such an event. They were acting as if it was a normal occurrence. So, it wasn't just this one maid that disrespected me, it was the entirety of this place.

I was dragged into the extravagant bath that this place had and was held up by multiple maids while they bathed me and prepared me. But the thing is that I wasn't even resisting what they were doing and yet they made sure to put in extra effort to pin me down.

Since I didn't particularly care about what they were doing to me, I didn't notice when they got me in a wedding gown.

A blonde fairy wearing a pure white wedding gown. Although it was me and I strictly believe that one should not praise themselves like that, I couldn't help myself when I looked into the mirror. What I saw was a person who looked so good that every single being in the universe would fall for me. High praise, but this person truly deserved it.

"Ha, think about it. If the princess wasn't mentally ill like she is, she would've got any man she wanted." One of the maids who was combing through my hair sighed as she said that.

"Don't say that! If she was sane, then we wouldn't have been able to make bread as we did. Taking care of a rich insane person has its advantage, you know?" Another maid chuckled as she said that.

"Ah, true that! You know, in a way, I'm gonna miss this bitch. I mean, we would be moved to some other place and we wouldn't have the same freedom that we have here." The first maid spoke.

"That's right as well. Although, if I'm to be transferred, I wish they consider all the good work that I've done here and make me the royal chambermaid of the first prince." The second maid gave out a lovesick sigh as she said that. And it wasn't just the one maid who did that.

"Who are we kidding though? If anyone's gonna be the royal chambermaid, it's gonna be Mrs Loretta."  They spoke.

"Are all the preparations done?" The maid who messed with me in the morning asked the other maids.

"Mrs Loretta!" Everyone looked freaked out just by the sight of the maid. And that was when I got what the other maid meant.

"I asked you lot a question. Is the princess ready now?" She asked, to which everyone silently nodded their heads. "Good. Take her to her room then." Loretta commanded and everyone did exactly what she ordered.
