The Pheonix Princess

Princess Alexandra of the Griffin Kingdom; a throwaway character made in the hit novel series "The Charming Prince" for the sake of elevating the Prince's character. A character who was a caged bird, whom the prince showed the light to. And the person who was mercilessly thrown away by the writer once he felt like the hero needed a reason to get revenge. Although all of this seemed silly writing to me when I was reading this bizarre story back in the day, I couldn't think of it in the same way since I became this sacrificial princess. What will happen to me now that I'm faced with this immense predicament? Will anyone help me or will I have to battle this all alone?

Reincarnator!

Unlike just a moment ago, the room felt a bit lonely since I know now that this is an imprisonment scenario. It seems like I'm about to be married off to someone I don't know and based on how they are guarding me so tightly, it looks like I'm marrying a big shot.

But that just complicates things even further. I mean, judging by how the maids reacted just a while ago, the man I'm about to marry is certainly not a good person. Therefore, I'm being married against my will to a person that I don't know who could be someone sinister. It sucks.

Anyhow, the room was dead silent and that was the moment when I wanted someone to swing by and have a decent conversation with me. But now that I think about it, the people around here hate me and there's no way that I would be able to hold a conversation with them.

"Get in." Loretta came in as if it was her room and gave no concern to the fact that I was in as well.

"Yes, ma'am." In came a man who looked like a knight; a very good looking knight.

It seems like everyone in this world has considerable good looks. Well, everyone except Loretta it seems.

"Okay, you have a really simple job right now. Look after this idiot and make sure that she doesn't run off before her wedding." Loretta turned towards the man and spoke.

"Umm, is it a good idea to speak about the princess like this?" The man asked, looking slightly concerned.

"What do you mean?" Loretta asked.

"I mean, you called the princess an idiot. Although she is… going through a phase right now, is it fair to call someone names like that? Especially when this certain someone is a person with relatively high standing in the social hierarchy?" He asked back.

In a way, it was kinda good that they treated me like an idiot. Or else, there would have been no possible way of these two having a conversation like this in front of me. I mean, at least this way, I could find that one ally in the sea of enemies.

However, Loretta didn't think of it like I did, of course. Rather, she was quite annoyed, just like she was with me earlier.

"Look, you are here to do one thing. And that is to protect this person for a few hours. You are nothing more than a measly beginner knight, so make sure to be humble if you want to keep that job of yours. You get me?" She asked, to which the knight nodded his head in silence. "Good. I'll be leaving then." She then proceeded to leave the room, which meant that I was left alone with someone I didn't know. The least I could do at this point was to talk to someone who could be my potential ally.

But the fact of the matter is that I am such a lousy talker. I don't know how to begin a conversation with someone unknown. Although that usually was quite a blessing since the person opposite you would initiate the conversation, in this case, it wasn't so.

It seemed like the knight was not interested in chatting with me. So, I was stuck in this awkward situation where neither of us was talking and that meant that the atmosphere of the room got way worse than before.

It took about ten minutes for the knight to finally open his mouth. "I'm sorry." He mumbled.

I was taken aback for a moment there. I did not expect him to apologize to me just like that. And to top it off, I didn't know the reason behind his apology.

I had questions in my mind that I wanted to ask, but I kept quiet since the man looked like he had something to say.

"Umm, you know how these people are, right? I mean, these lot have been oppressed by the royal family for quite some time and now that they have found a weak link there, they made sure to spat on it every way that they can. Oh, sorry again. I didn't mean to call you a weak link, but it is what it is." The man shrugged as he spoke.

Of course, I got what he meant. Taking their frustration out on people whom they can't normally touch upon is the ultimate satisfaction one can receive. So, it was obvious that they would pick on me because I was easy prey.

"If you ask me, I would love to save you from this predicament, but…" The man gave out a long sigh as he said that. "...no, I can't do that. By doing that I would ruin the flow of this story. And it isn't something that I should do." He spoke.

I was shocked. It was something that I didn't expect to hear. He said "story". Although that could mean many things, only one thing came into mind at that moment.

"Hmm?" I acted as if I didn't quite get what he was saying, because I needed to confirm it for once.

"Ah, you wouldn't get it… But, oh man! How cute can you be!!! To think that I'm gonna be sending you to your death is somewhat depressing if you ask me. It's not the way that I thought that it would go. However, I know that it is my job. For the greater good. For the prince to meet his lover, this is necessary. And I'm willing to keep this story going." He looked sad, yet determined. I couldn't care less about his emotions at that point because I got what I needed.

In a spur of the moment, I jumped up from the couch that I was sitting on, grabbed the knight by his collar and pushed him to the couch instead.

"Hey, what are you doing?" The man looked confused by my actions.

"I know what you are… You damned reincarnator!" I mumbled. The shock on his face was a sight to see indeed.
