They See Me Rollin'

{A/N: I'm a loot nerd when I play video games and read books. So I'm going to list off all of his new gear which will probably take up the entire chapter. If you don't really care about that, skip this chapter and pick up on the next! We do have 23 items to cover after all.)

Since he was already making pretty good time and, as far as he knew, had until the end of the day to meet with Skit, he decided to take a break while he rolled for his new items.

When he paused and looked around to see where he was, he realized that he was standing in front of the houses that him, Ally, Richard, and Robin had shared for the first couple of days after they met.

Seeing the house where he had killed his first humans and met his first real friends in the apocalypse, he decided to take a rest under a large tree in the yard.

For the first few minutes, Grant just sat there quietly staring up into the cloudy blue sky. It was a surreal feeling. If he looked up, everything looked so peaceful, but when he brought his eyes back down to Earth, he could see nothing but death and destruction. Off in the distance, in every direction, there were plumes of smoke rising into the sky. Buildings all around him were already beaten and broken to varying degrees, while cars were scattered everywhere some crashed and some abandoned.

Occasionally he could see dried pools of blood scattered all along the roads and walkways but he never saw a body unless it had been killed recently because the monsters would always devour their prey.

Grant hadn't realized how much he truly needed to take a mental break. No one was looking at him with any expectations at the moment, there was no immediate threat to his life, and he already knew what his next steps were.

So for the first time since the death of Tres, Grant allowed his emotions to break free from where he had buried them deep in the depths of his heart and mind..

All the feelings that he had shoved to the depths of his heart and mind came flooding forward.

The fact that he had killed people, not just Jeff and his thugs, but thousands of zombies that used to be human was perhaps the heaviest burden he had been carrying. Sure, he could justify that they were no longer human, but that didn't stop it from being difficult.

At first, he just thought about how he felt about what he had personally done, but he gradually released the burdens on his own mind.

After a half hour or so of just letting himself go free, mentally, Grant finally re-gathered himself and prepared to move past everything. He wouldn't let the past hold him back and now that he had some time to release his mental burdens, he would not let them effect him again.

With a burden now lifted from his very soul, Grant got on with the business that he originally sat down to accomplish.

"Random Rolls!"

{Welcome to Random Roll. Using your rolls will result in a random item being delivered to the user. If you would like to use your random roll, please say "Roll"}

"Roll! C'mon lady luck! Please don't abandon me in this my most crucial moment!"

{Rolling in 3... 2... 1... Congratulations, your item will be delivered momentarily. Would you like to continue rolling in succession until all Random Rolls have been used? Please say "Yes" or "No".}

"Yes!"

{Understood. Random Rolls will continue until you say "Stop". Each item will be delivered before the next roll takes place.}

After a brief moment, the now familiar flash of light appeared in front of Grant indicating that the first item was soon to be delivered.

Grant didn't want to jinx the rolls by checking them as they came so he just shut his eyes and continued to pray to every god he could remember. If even one of them heard his prayers then that would be worth it.

While the flashes of light continued to appear and disappear for quite awhile, a group of survivors had been attracted to the area because of it. As he sat there with his eyes closed, the survivors just watched the whole event unfold in front of them with dazed expressions on their faces. The entire Random Roll process was actually quite a beautiful process. With a flash of light appearing in thin air, then the light morphed into the shape of whatever item had been rewarded, before fading away only to repeat again.

Since Grant left Overclocked Concentration on all the time now, he naturally noticed the arrival of these survivors but since he was waiting for the end of the Random Rolls before he opened his eyes, he just ignored them.

Seeing the pile of items in front of him however, the survivors all had different looks in their eyes. Some of them had no clue what was going on, but the few that had managed to gain Random Rolls of their own were staring at the pile of goods with both amazement and greed.

When Grant sensed the flashes of greed, he finally opened his eyes and glanced at them. There were about 20 people in the group and they all seemed relatively young which made sense considering the median age of the area Grant had been living before The Path's emergence was mostly college students.

As if on queue, the message he had been waiting for appeared moments after he opened his eyes to observe the group of survivors.

{Unfortunately, you have no more Random Rolls. Please return when you have some available. Thank you.}

Now that he didn't have to wait for any more items, Grant simply flashed an intense glare and released a portion of the aura he had developed, which had been forged through the sheer pressure he had to endure when fighting stronger monsters, at the survivors. As if agreed upon before, they all turned white as a sheet before a portion of them took off screaming like little girls running down the street. The remaining group of survivors, seemed to snap out of it hearing those screams and immediately chased after the first group.

Grant felt slightly bad about scaring them, but since there weren't any young children or elderly, he figured that they would just talk about him in a negative light and avoid him if they ever met again, which he was perfectly fine with.

Now, it was Grant's turn to stare at the pile of loot in from of him with his own unhinged Greed. It was finally time to power up! Again!

"Cmonnn new armor! Orange isn't a flattering color for me!"

Grant decided that he would just start at the top of the pile and work his way through it as quickly as possible.

It was already midday and it was starting to look like a massive storm was brewing so he wanted to reach the dungeon where Skit told him to meet before the eventual rainfall.

Sitting on the top of the pile, ironically, was an umbrella. Seeing it, Grant was starting to wonder if the Random Rolls weren't so random after all. It was almost like The Path was somehow predicting coming events and would gift items to the person who had rolled. Take Robin and Richard for example, along with Grant, they had all managed to find weapons in their first rolls.

The weapons they received were varying levels of quality and strength but that didn't change the fact they had still received weapons to assist them in fighting enemies. The more he thought about it the more he realized that was true, even Ryan had received his spiked bat on his first roll.

Knowing that he didn't have time however, Grant pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind and started to pick up the items one by one without pause just to see their quality and purpose.
