The Field

Kids aged four to twenty-five all gather on a huge high school football field, none of them know why they had wandered there in the first place, but they all felt drawn to it, nonetheless. You can hear kids talking to each other, curious as to what was happening.

Three siblings walk onto the football field together, initially, they were heading over to a friend’s place who stayed in the university dorms at the Harrison Center of Science and Research (HCSR) but somehow ended up being diverted without realizing it. They each look at one another before the eldest speaks. “Seems like the entire town is here, or what’s left of it anyway. Perhaps Samantha will be here” She looks to the middle child who’s nodding her head in agreement while looking around, before finishing “Perhaps Anita will be here too? Wanna go look around while Killian and I look for Sam?”

The younger girl looks back at her older sister and younger brother before running her right hand through the little boy’s hair playfully, making him giggle before responding “Yea, meet you by the risers in like an hour?” The older girl nods before taking the younger boy’s hand and moving in the opposite direction looking for her friend.

A young girl with long blue hair watches as a boy with short black hair paces around, running his hands through his hair “I don’t get it, my parents were home last night, they greeted me when I got home from the game but when I woke up in the morning, they were gone…”

The girl gives the boy a sympathetic look while putting her hand on his shoulder, stopping him from pacing while trying to console him “Yea, same here. I wouldn’t worry too much though, I’m sure they’ll be back.”

The boy looks at the girl and rolls his eyes in annoyance “You don’t understand, my mother never leaves the house, there is no way she would just be gone.” Then he walks away, and the girl is left standing alone.

A younger blond boy stares absent-mindedly at the dense forest while speaking to himself "My mom said that there was something big happening at the drill rig last night, maybe that has something to do with everyone being gone?"

The boy with black hair responds while walking by, surprising the younger boy "The oil drilling rig?... nah dude, how would that be possible; they found a new cap rock, used the oil wells to pump the crude oil to the surface, and decided to dip? Come on dude, get your head out of your ass."

The younger boy looks toward the black-haired boy who spoke and responds even though he wouldn’t hear him “Well, I wasn’t talking about the mainland rig… I was talking about the Barge Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit, which requires a high-security clearance to get in and has the military base beside it. Not that you care, or can hear me…”

On the other side of the football field, a group of five teenagers and one little girl walk around aimlessly, not knowing why they were there, where their parents were, or why they kept getting an uneasy feeling that someone or something was watching them. The little girl looks at her brother, who was scanning the field with a quizzical look on his face, she then grabs his hand to get his attention before gesturing to the other people in the field with tears in her eyes and a vacant expression “It’s so sad that they don’t know; don’t know what’s about to happen, don’t realize how every single action and decision they make from here on forth will have a direct effect on the future and events to come. They don’t understand how they will help bring in the end of the world.”

The little girl’s brother looks at her in confusion but ultimately doesn’t question or say anything, he was used to her saying weird things that he didn’t understand, it was something she had done since she started talking; Always knowing things that she shouldn’t, showing up in places that she wasn’t at previously, and always making people feel uncomfortable or weirded out while she’s around.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town.

A young girl with auburn hair that reaches the middle of her back walks down the isolated streets heading towards the mine located just outside of town. Unlike the other people in town, she had the urge to head there instead of the football field, she knew why, this was the beginning of the end, and she had a huge part to play in the battles to come; first, she had to get her OPLAN, that way she had a general idea of what needed to be done without having to suspiciously sneak away from town to get them when needed.

The girl was nervous, she had been prepped for what was happening and was told in advance the things that would transpire to achieve the grand narrative that the Harrison Centre of Science and Research had been working towards since they were founded along with the town back in the ’20s. That didn’t stop her from having doubts and being slightly apprehensive about the tasks ahead and because she would have to either convince or trick people she has known since a child, into helping her, she was hoping her OPLAN would come with a crash course in subconscious manipulation because she knew there was no way in Hell she was getting half of the town to assist with the plan.

Something evil lurked underneath the mine, influencing the town since its conception and tricking the minds of individuals who had the unfortunate luck to feel its presence. There’s been a battle waging for centuries, unknown and unseen to humankind, a battle over their plane of existence, their minds, and their souls; some seek to control this plane and the people who live in it, while others seek to keep it as is and allow humankind to live in peace and reach prosperity. But, in the ancient battle between light and dark, nothing is certain or what it seems.
