The Mountain of the Alpha King

[As of 11/30/23 this novel's ROUGH DRAFT is COMPLETED] [Warning: 18+ Content! - cursing, dark themes, sexual content, and other adult matters are present - NOTE: there is NO 'knotting' in this story for both those who come looking for it, and those who want to avoid it. I just wanted to give a head's up either way. LGBTQ+ representation is also in this novel. :)] This is book one of the Ylphasia series. War, betrayal, loss, growth - none of these things were aspects of life that Myranda had in mind when she finally met her destined mate. The only problem was that her chosen was someone she absolutely despised - Prince Metas, the next rightful King to the Lycan Kingdom. From the bottom rungs of society, everything above her seemed like a dream - it was too bad her preconceived notions were far from wrong. In their journey to make a brighter future for their entire kingdom, Metas and Myranda learn that there is so much more to just being mates than their shared love. As they navigate the complications of starting a revolution, both Metas and Myranda discover just how compatible they actually are - and how much their paring means for the future of their kind. ----------------------------------------------------- [EXCERPT] "If you want my place so much, you should challenge me when the time comes. This is cowardice. You think I can beat you-no...You know I can beat you, and so you're trying to hurt Myranda to make me weaker. You're a bastard, a cheat and a liar, and you don't deserve to rule over our kingdom - and you never will. You have no valor, no honor - and no moral compass," Metas spat towards him, and kept his hair up on end involuntarily. "I'm drunk right now and easily pushed you over like a small paper bag filled with shit. Since you've so brilliantly shown what you'd truly like to do, I'll make sure she is safe from you. Meanwhile, perhaps you should train or learn better tactics from your papa," Metas continued, and even grinned with delight. "Even if you beat me in combat, the rest of those in power want to see you fall. You won't last," Silas warned, and reformed into his mortal self. "...but I do intend on challenging you. Unless you want to kill me right here and now since you're so confident." "There is no honor in killing you without the glory of showing you exactly what I am capable of in front of everyone. I will take Joss' advice and do nothing for now. I don't want to throw away honor for revenge. If you come near her again, I will kill you before you ever get the chance to prance around in front of high society with a little speech, and show off to your wife and no friends. Understand?" Metas asked menacingly, and now his gums were visible as saliva dripped from his lips and teeth, barely holding himself back. "I will drink your blood through your eye sockets if you lay one more fucking claw on her - understood?" Metas warned as he advanced towards the blonde male. "You letting me live will be the biggest regret of your life, Metas. Hold those words close to your heart when you lose everything to me," Silas sneered and turned away, but not before he locked eyes with Joss with a dare in his green orbs.

Will You Forgive Me?

She hadn't paid attention to her path, and instead had focused on their trajectory. As they shrank into the fold of trees, hopelessness caused Myranda to crash onto her chest as she failed to keep up with the pair.

"Why?" She whimpered out loud in defeat, and once more turned her head up to the sky as though to blame her deity.

There were bad luck streaks -- and then there was whatever-the-fuck this curse was. Since the day they met, Myranda had nothing but misfortune fall upon her. Again, she felt as though it were some kind of omen, but pushed it out of her mind.

Even if was an omen - nothing deterred her from her need to apologize to him.

Pain be damned. If she turned into her wolf self, she could get to them on three legs just fine. It was her only good idea, and the only one she immediately grasped onto.

Like before, she removed her boots, which instantly destabilized her leg. Her eyes watered and dripped with tears of agony, but it didn't stop her from her goal.

"I have to see him, I have to see him, I have to..." she chanted to herself quickly and jerked a little too hard on her boot so it would come off completely, but her stubborn nature forced her to ignore the malady that affected her.

It hurt to shift, but she managed it, and abandoned everything in the dirt and took off after him. This time, she had two scents to go by - and she was determined to keep up on their tracks. Lara was particularly heavily scented, and it hurt her nose when she inhaled the slightest bit of her essence.

Soon she could hear their barks and 'laughs', which only pushed her further.

Little whimpers left her mouth from time to time when her leg smacked against larger pieces of debris like sticks or rocks. She didn't have great capability to keep it tucked into her belly when she was centered on her goal.

Metas actually turned his head as though he had heard her, but once more Lara distracted him and stopped him and pointed down at something with her nose.

'Stop it you horrible little cunt,' Myranda growled and kept her run towards them with the fullness of her speed. Her hind leg ached more and more as the blood pumped through her body.

'I'm going to see him no matter what - even if I have to kill you,' she assured herself, and kept her speed.

She even yipped in hopes that it caused his head to turn again, but Lara 'talked' his ear off.

It wasn't until she tripped over something and tumbled down a soft decline that he finally noticed her.

She laid there helpless and in great torment as her leg throbbed in victory. Once her eyes finally met Metas' gold ones once more, nothing mattered - not even the white-hot pulse in her ankle.

"I-I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" She cried out to him, which earned her two confused looks from Lara and Metas.

"Please - just - just hear me out..." She carried on helplessly.

Metas approached her rather evenly, which probably meant he was about to show her as much care as she had - which had been nearly none.

"What are you doing out here?" Lara spat with disgust in her tone, like she looked down at a bug instead of her own kind.

"I...came for.. ingredients..." Myranda replied, and looked to Metas who had no softness in his gaze.

"Really? It looks like you came to chase us - and instead ate dirt" Lara laughed and looked down to her once she reached Myranda's location.

Metas sighed and looked at Myranda. His eyes frowned where his mouth could not as he addressed her. "It does look like that. You shouldn't approach royalty like this. You should watch your manners."

Her eyes turned to that of shock and disappointment. "M-M-Metas... I'm sorry... I didn't mean anything I said. I didn't. I really, really didn't. My pride got in the way - and I shouldn't have let it happen. I'm so sorry," she whined and let tears escape her eyes and soak into her fur.

"Is this this female you were talking about? Oh I've got words for you, sister" Lara started and growled with her teeth bared.

"She's not worth it, Lara. Go back to the complex and find her brother Jyriah. Bring him here to take her home," he commanded coldly and paid no mind to the wounded Myranda below him.

"Are you sure? You're parents said-"

"I don't care. She may be cruel; but I am not. Go get her brother, please" he repeated softly to the white wolf who nodded in compliance.

Lara obeyed, and did a brief bow. "At once, your majesty"

Silence filled the air between them as Lara faded into the distance.

"I'm sorry..." Myranda repeated as she looked up to him with eyed that begged for his forgiveness.

"Your apologies don't take back your words," he pointed out and sat closer to her. His posture straightened into that of a regal one filled with authority.

She knew that she was low, and his company was undeserved. To show subservience, she stayed low to the ground where she had fallen.

"I know. I shouldn't have said it. I did it because..." she paused and struggled to continue, but forged on with wavered words somehow, "...I didn't want to get hurt. I was starting to fall for you, and I thought it was all a lie. I just didn't want to have to suffer more. My parents were cruel to me. Your kindness just hit me intensely and I reacted badly."

Myranda had not finish her 'snouting' to him as she shrank further into the dirt like a worm.

Metas said nothing for quite a time. It was only until she whimpered from pain, that he was finally moved to speak.

Thank you so very much for reading! I hope you're finding some joy in the story, and that it helps give some escape from reality for a while.
