I just wanted to give a head's up either way. LGBTQ+ representation is also in this novel. :)] This is book one of the Ylphasia series. War, betrayal, loss, growth - none of these things were aspects of life that Myranda had in mind when she finally met her destined mate. The only problem was that her chosen was someone she absolutely despised - Prince Metas, the next rightful King to the Lycan Kingdom. From the bottom rungs of society, everything above her seemed like a dream - it was too bad her preconceived notions were far from wrong. In their journey to make a brighter future for their entire kingdom, Metas and Myranda learn that there is so much more to just being mates than their shared love. As they navigate the complications of starting a revolution, both Metas and Myranda discover just how compatible they actually are - and how much their paring means for the future of their kind. ----------------------------------------------------- [EXCERPT] "If you want my place so much, you should challenge me when the time comes. This is cowardice. You think I can beat you-no...You know I can beat you, and so you're trying to hurt Myranda to make me weaker. You're a bastard, a cheat and a liar, and you don't deserve to rule over our kingdom - and you never will. You have no valor, no honor - and no moral compass," Metas spat towards him, and kept his hair up on end involuntarily. "I'm drunk right now and easily pushed you over like a small paper bag filled with shit. Since you've so brilliantly shown what you'd truly like to do, I'll make sure she is safe from you. Meanwhile, perhaps you should train or learn better tactics from your papa," Metas continued, and even grinned with delight. "Even if you beat me in combat, the rest of those in power want to see you fall. You won't last," Silas warned, and reformed into his mortal self. "...but I do intend on challenging you. Unless you want to kill me right here and now since you're so confident." "There is no honor in killing you without the glory of showing you exactly what I am capable of in front of everyone. I will take Joss' advice and do nothing for now. I don't want to throw away honor for revenge. If you come near her again, I will kill you before you ever get the chance to prance around in front of high society with a little speech, and show off to your wife and no friends. Understand?" Metas asked menacingly, and now his gums were visible as saliva dripped from his lips and teeth, barely holding himself back. "I will drink your blood through your eye sockets if you lay one more fucking claw on her - understood?" Metas warned as he advanced towards the blonde male. "You letting me live will be the biggest regret of your life, Metas. Hold those words close to your heart when you lose everything to me," Silas sneered and turned away, but not before he locked eyes with Joss with a dare in his green orbs.

The Other Wolf

The days crawled by, and her torment grew. She dreamed about Metas and being able to run at his side, she longed to see his eyes and hear her name from his mouth again. She daydreamed about him when she took a shower and touched her most intimate of places. She even called his name when her delicate fingers knew exactly how to pleasure her sacred pearl, and brought her a brief amount of respite to fantasize of being under him - or even over him. The position wouldn't matter, as long as she was with him.

Myranda's world had entirely turned upside down, and if she could - she would go to Metas' feet and beg for his forgiveness and to accept her once more.

At least her leg had started to heal up to the point where she could bake. It was odd, but she was really happy to be able to make sweet treats again, and even found joy in it. It was all because she knew that her sweets would eventually make their way to Metas. If she could put a little bit of love into each bite, maybe he could tell.

Jyriah had at least been given his promotion back, but they moved him away from the Prince. Myranda was devastated that the small bit of hope she once held dissolved away.

She couldn't go up. She couldn't to go out.

She hadn't reached him in any capacity for the past two weeks.

"I wasted the one time I had to really get to know him... What if everything was just a coincidence, and he really hadn't been the one behind everything I accused him of? Please just... give me one moment with him so that I can tell him I am sorry. Please, Goddess. I learned my lesson. I'll learn to accept the fact he is a royal if you just give me one more time to see him. I won't even chase him anymore. I just want to say sorry..." she spoke into the early morning air as she prepared to make her way out into the woods for a legitimate purpose - she needed ingredients - a lot of them.

In no way had she planned to meet her lost mate out here, but she hoped she would in the back of her mind. All she wanted was to meet his gaze and apologize.

She sucked in a deep breath and steadied herself to leave. It would not be a pleasant walk - but her siblings had their own jobs to attend to, and couldn't help her anymore. Myranda would just have to do it herself - with or without a chaperone.

She limped with a noticeable gait, visible to anyone who was up to see her walk out, but no one bothered to offer help to her.

Myranda had been shunned her entire life for her looks, and it seemed that nothing had changed. She was still an outcast - and they were still assholes.

Each step would fool her as her pain came and went as it pleased. Sometimes her foot was fine, and sometimes it was like she had stepped on a shard of glass in her heel if it was put down in the wrong way.

Like all predators, she played it off. Metas' words rang in her ears 'would you rather go for the injured rabbit, or the fast one?'.

Eventually she had made it up the two levels to the entrance, and nodded to the guards, who did not nod in return. Perhaps they had all heard about her mistreatment of Metas? (or something worse..)

They hadn't even questioned her - they just watched as she made her way towards the deep woods to find what she needed, or what she could find.

'Of course the nuts are the things I need the most... how am I going to find enough in this season? They were supposed to last until spring returned fully. I love you guys, but you used all my fucking nut reserves on pastries...' she grumbled to herself.

Myranda contemplated each way she could dig as the trees got closer and closer, so much so that she hadn't noticed the voice that rang in the air. It was only until she spied a blur of black and white between the greenery that she even noticed anything at all.

It was Metas. It was definitely Metas - but he was with someone else, probably that Lara wolf that Silas had mentioned a few weeks ago.

She already hated Lara with every inch of her soul, and hoped she would trip on one of the traps that was hidden out there.

They sounded so happy. Their joined yowls of joy were just daggers to Myranda's heart, daggers she wanted to remove and then use on Lara's pretty blue eyes.

'Just go over there and tell him you're sorry. I mean, that's all you wanted to do, right? Just go and apologize so you can maybe sleep better at night. You can do this! You go over there right now,' she begged inwardly but found herself frozen in fear.

As she got closer she could see them both roll in the dirt like two playful puppies. Her eyes teared up and and she felt her heart physically pull at her lungs and thumped so hard that it had made it impossible to breathe.

To top it off, Lara was gorgeous. She had a thick, pristine white coat that looked like it made snow pale in comparison to its brightness. As a lady of the court, she was perfectly groomed - and her ears were even fluffed and primped. It was like a goddess pranced in the air rather than a wolf.

That didn't stop Myranda. She still made her way towards them as fast as she could with her injury, and for a brief second, Myranda /swore/ she locked eyes with Lara's blue ones that sat out so brightly on her face.

It felt like a stab to the abdomen when Lara instantly urged them to move on. Like she wanted to keep him away on purpose, or that she had been hired or assigned to do so.

"Metas, wait!" Myranda tried to shout out to him, but her voice was so hoarse from how loud and long she had cried last night - both because she had hurt Metas, and that her call to him hadn't even echoed off the nearby trees.

To make matters worse, Lara whooped loudly and covered up all of the sound she even did manage to produce.

Metas didn't turn around. He didn't even know she had been there thanks to that other wolf...that stupid bitch, Lara who she planned to confront one day when the chance arrived.

What did you think about the new wolf? Would you hate her off the bat, too?

It's a natural reaction - so if you do, that's perfectly fine!
