CHAPTER - 20 { Aerodactyl Vs Pidgeot }

The Violet Gym was a huge cylindrical building, with an open battleground at the top.

After taking the lift, Kota arrived at the battleground where a few trainers were exercising with their pokemon.

None of those trainers seem like challengers, so Kota declared his motive loudly.

"I came to challenge the gym, who's the Gym Leader?"

"Me!"

The reply came very quickly, a Pidgeot flew towards Kota with a guy on its back.

Falkner, the Gym Leader, had blue eyes and blue hair, which covered his right eye. He wore a white sash, some indigo shorts and a pair of black wristbands with red outlines.

"I am the Gym Leader of Violet Gym, Falkner. Nice to meet you."

Falkner introduced himself. Kota responded with his name and handshake.

"So, a challenger huh? Can he even beat Falkner?"

"Another guy who will be defeated, I pity them."

The trainers, or the students around started gossiping. Everyone seemed to believe that Kota couldn't beat Falkner

Kota just glanced at them before going to one side of the battleground. On the opposite side, Falkner stood with a confident look.

"Both Gym Leader and Challenger will use three pokemon each, the last standing pokemon shall decide the winner! Begin!"

One of the students, acting as the match referee, announced loudly.

"Hoothoot, I choose you!" Falkner called out a small owl pokemon which stood on one leg.

Hoothoot, a normal/flying type pokemon. It is known as the 'Owl Pokemon'. It might look like it only has one leg, but actually has two.

"Hoothoot!"

Kota would have used Sentret if he wanted to test them, but he was here to win quickly. So without wasting any time, he called out Aerodactyl.

"Aee!"

Aerodactyl gave a shrill cry causing the tiny Hoothoor before it to tremble in fright.

"Damn it! Hoothoot, don't falter! We can do it! Use Wing Attack!"

Hoothoot gathered courage and flew in the sky before coming down and speeding towards Aerodactyl.

"Steel Wing."

Said Kota. Aerodactyl, staying still on the ground, lifted his left wing which glowed in a silver light, and swung at the incoming Hoothoot.

Boom!

The Steal Wing from Aerodactyl, slammed on Hoothoot heavily. The impact sent Hoothoot crashing on the ground.

"No! Hoothoot!"

Shouted Falkner, his face was filled with worry and slight bitterness. Hoothoot had fainted and the battle was won by Aerodactyl in a single move.

Taking a deep breath, Falkner recalled Hoothoot and sent his second pokemon on the battleground, "Go, Dodrio!"

A three headed bird pokemon, without the ability to fly, came before Aerodactyl with glaring eyes.

Dodrio, a normal/flying type pokemon. It is known as the 'Triple Bird Pokemon'. It's a pokemon that's more on the aggressive side.

"Roar."

Ordered Kota. Aerodactyl gave a loud scream intending to scare Dodrio but was a futile attempt.

"My Dodrio isn't scared of anything! Use Quick Attack and Fury Attack!"

Said Falkner. Dodrio sprinted towards Aerodactyl in a zig-zag pattern, then attacked with Fury Attack.

Its three sharp peaks stabbed at Aerodactyl, but missed as Aerodactyl flew in the sky with a bored look.

"Hyper Beam!"

Aerodactyl opened his mouth and shot a strong beam of energy at Dodrio blasting the ground to form a crater.

Dodrio laid in the center of the crater with white eyes, clearly knocked out. The referee once again declared Aerodactyl as the winner.

"No way, Falkner is losing so miserably!"

"I can't believe my eyes. Is it for real?"

"Falkner! Please beat that challenger!"

The students were shocked, surprised and shaken with Kota and his pokemon's performance.

It was obvious, because they didn't know who Kota was. And they were still unaware that he had more such strong pokemon on his waist belt.

'Aerodactyl is my strongest pokemon, followed by Charizard and Gyarados. No way you can beat him so easily.'

Kota crossed his arms over his chest and looked at Falkner with an expressionless face.

"Kota, you are strong. I can't even beat your first pokemon, this Aerodactyl."

Falkner said with a bitter smile. It was his first time seeing a real and living Aerodactyl.

It was very strong. Much more stronger than Falkner had assumed.

"Pidgeot, can you do it?"

Falkner asked Pidgeot, in response, he saw Pidgeot flew before Aerodactyl.

'I won't disappoint you, Pidgeot!'

Falkner smiled, he looked towards Kota with burning eyes and commanded Pidgeot, "Agility."

"Pwrr!"

Pidgeot flapped its wings and flew around Aerodactyl at a high speed.

"Scary Face!"

Aerodactyl suddenly glared with wide eyes, stopping Pidgeot from using Agility and reducing its speed.

"Pidgeot, Air Cutter and Air Slash!"

Said Falkner nervously. Pidgeot immediately slashed and cut towards Aerodactyl.

Slash!

The Air Cutter was dodged but some Air Slash ripped Aerodactyl's skin on the back area.

"Aee!"

Aerodactyl screamed loudly in rage. It flew towards Pidgeot using Quick Attack.

Bam!

Pidgeot got hit by Aerodactyl's left wing, but wasn't severely injured. It flew away from Aerodactyl and kept its distance.

"Pidgeot, use the sky to your advantage! Aerodactyl can't fly high like you!"

Shouted Falkner from the battleground. Pidgeot sped up in the sky and disappeared between clouds.

'Pidgeot, use the tactic we created on Aerodactyl.'

Thought Falkner. He raised his head and looked in the sky waiting for Pidgeot to attack.

"Aerodactyl, come down."

Ordered Kota. Aerodactyl descended down and settled on the ground.

Swoosh!

A strong gust of wind came, sliced Aerodactyl, then faded away. This alarmed both Kota and Aerodactyl.

"Use, Protect!"

Said Kota. A faint light covered Aerodactyl, and successfully protected against two more winds.

"If we can't attack, then we shall endure. Aerodactyl, keep on persisting."

Kota watched as tens of gusts of winds came and wounded Aerodactyl. These winds were Pidgeot using its super speed.

But as time passed, Pidgeot could be seen as tired and also exhausted. This trick used by Pidgeot, required a lot of energy.

Even Ariya could see through it. Aerodactyl was covered with open sliced wounds. Blood flowed down his wings and legs.

"Aeee."

Aerodactyl cried slowly, he had been patient for quite a long time. His rage was building up.

"Challenger, your pokemon doesn't look so good. Do you wish to continue?"

Asked the referee. Kota refused with indifference, he had full confidence in Aerodactyl.

Finally, the chance came. Pidgeot made a mistake due to its exhaustion.

"Aerodactyl, use Payback!"

Aerodactyl stomped on the ground and then flew towards Pidgeot with red eyes.

His two huge claws went forward and grabbed Pidgeot tightly. Then, Aerodactyl slammed Pidgeot on the ground heavily.

Boom!

Pidgeot vomited blood, one of its wings broke and it fainted. The ground had cracked open, and Pidgeot was struck inside.

"That's enough."

Kota quickly recalled Aerodactyl in his pokeball with satisfaction. The whole battleground was a mess.

Falkner panicked and the students burst into loud talks. They didn't expect to see such a match today.

The medical team rushed and examined Pidgeot. Fortunately, Pidgeot could still fight like before after a good treatment in Pokemon Center.

Kota had to admit that Pidgeot gave Aerodactyl a tough fight. He never saw Aerodactyl bleed so much before.

After the treatment was over, Kota took Aerodactyl back and stepped out of the Pokemon Center.

With today's victory, Kota collected three Gym Badges in total.

He was another step closer from participating in the Johto League. So far, Kota couldn't find a strong Gym Leader.

Violet Gym was the strongest out of the three that Kota faced in Johto region.

"I wonder how strong the trainers in Johto League will be?"

Questioned Kota to himself while walking on the path leading towards Cherrygrove City.

He will be resting there for a day, then head to the forest to catch some pokemon.

Later, he will go to Ecruteak City to challenge the Gym there. Kota did some study and found that the gym there specializes in ghost-type pokemon.

"I will need some dark-type pokemon."

Kota muttered in a low voice. His eyes flickered, but was unable to decide.

"I should see if I can find a Murkrow."

I hope no one is getting bored by these chapters. There's not much challenge for Kota so he just beats everyone.
