The Menagerie Anthology

This series is a collection of unrelated and different stories I have written. Although the series will include a wide range of genres and settings, here is a list of some stories included in this anthology: (Please note I am uploading these stories steadily, so if one is listed, but hasn’t been released yet please be patient. Also, I apologize for the over the top descriptions. I couldn’t help myself!) - Akeldama: On a distant planet with the heat of the suns hitting their backs, two men shall determine who will be victorious. Who do you place your bet on? The long ranged and experienced warrior or the strength empowered and feisty fighter? - He Who Stands Still: Becoming thirteen isn’t easy and explaining how terrible it is to a twelve year old isn’t a simple task either. She just doesn’t understand how this little boy cannot grasp the tragedy of aging. However, this girl is in for a surprise, as he may know more than she thinks, way more, actually. - He’s The Goal: Lorelei and Brum have been best friends since both of them could talk. Their relationship has been through thick and thin. At the beginning of the school year, Brum decided to branch out of his comfort zone and join the soccer team. Before he even realizes what is happening, his heart falls for the team captain, Reiner. Brum couldn’t be happier, however to Lorelei there’s just something not quite right about the charismatic captain. - I Didn’t Know Her: He was milling through his daily routine. So was she. The bus stop was the same, with it’s tarnished lettering and weathered bench. The sidewalk was the same, lined with crepe myrtle trees and littered with weeds cracking through the concrete. Even the honking horns of traffic jams and the nearby ring of a telephone was no different. However, he would die today, and so would she. The abnormality is not their deaths, but the interaction between two strangers who realized together their time was coming to an end.

Please note: I am placing this note directly into the chapter because I believe these next few points are important. 1) As the title suggests, this is a collection of different stories I have written. There is no intention of consistency or assurance of continuation with any of the separate pieces. Although I may elaborate and add to some, this is not guaranteed. 2) I have created this series in the hope of getting some feedback on my writing. Please, if you notice a mistake or have a suggestion, comment! Let me know, as any feedback is very much appreciated. I do not mind being absolutely roasted long as it is warranted, but please do not be rude to anyone (me or others) in the comment section. 3) I cannot promise steady posting, but I have a large amount of content, so I don't think that will be a problem for a while. 4) Also, this is obvious, but please do not plagiarize mine or anyone else's work. Just as I place effort and time into my stories, so do others.

Thank you for reading this note, as I don't want any readers to have misconceptions about this series. Please enjoy!

Akeldama:

The only sound upon the wind was the brushing of the grass blades. Two men stood on a hill, neither one noticing the desolate green or setting suns around them. Their eyes were locked on each other.

Areion spoke with a voice similar to a lion's roar. "Orixar, do not mistake my kindess for weakness, but you should surrender while you still can."

The rival snickered. "Always so cocky." He leaned his weight on one leg and crossed his arms. "You will be the one surrendering, gramps."

In a flash fast as lightning, a blur pounded into Areion with such power that the man's body skidded back thirty feet; while his legs absorbed the force of the attack. Orixar's fists connected with Areion's abdomen in unrelenting might, forcing the enemy's spine to bend outward. Although he tried to keep his footing, Areion's body was sent skyward by one of the opponent's kicks. Gravity pulled his body to the grass bed below.

Orixar, with a twisted grin on his face, blocked Areion's view of the setting sun as he leapt above him for a devastating blow. Just as Orixar's fist hovered over the opponent's chest, Areion's body liquified into the earth like water. When his fist collided with the ground, the earth underneath disappeared leaving a crater the size of a barn.

Orixar stood up within the center of the depression. "Running now, are we? Coward," he spat. "Stop hiding and fight."

"I didn't run."

Orixar's gaze immediately shifted to the direction of the voice in shock, but it was too late. Areion's body flowed forth from the earth above the crater and solidified. Then suddenly, Areion thrusted a glimmering green whip towards Orixar. The contact of the energy left a trench of scorched earth and blood. Orixar, looking down at his side with his mouth gaped open, saw his hand lying on the ground. Blood gushed from the wound, drizzling over exposed bone. Orixar's mouth formed a scream, but no sound came out of it.

"Fool! Thinking you could defeat me." Areion snarled.

Within the blink of an eye, a radiant whip thrashed towards Orixar, whose shock has left him open for attack. A fraction of a second was the time he had to spare. Orixar, being snapped out of his reverie by the illumination of Areion's whip, dashed from it's dangerous gleam.

Orixar's arm continued to trickle blood, but his eyes were no longer glued to his wound; his gaze was set on the enemy. Areion lashed his whip a third time, striking horizontally. He bolted his weight meters into the air, clearing the whip's path. When he landed, Orixar did not wait for another strike of the whip. In a flash, his body launched towards the enemy, his one fist curled back. Areion's eyes widened. There was no time to counter the attack. Orixar's fist rammed into Areion's throat. He staggered back a few paces, coughing, but Orixar didn't give him time to recover. Thrusting his body into the air, Orixar pounded his feet into Areion's chest with enough force to send both their bodies to the ground.

The two of them were haloed by a small crater. Orixar towered over his enemy triumphantly, the light from the setting suns illuminating the edges of his silhouette.

"Give me back what's mine."

Areion, even with pain exploding in his body like fireworks, maintained his thundering voice. "No."

The victor sighed heavily. There was only one choice left.

Orixar raised his lone fist into the air. A single tear descended from the victor's left eye like a fallen angel. Orixar shifted his entire body with the motion of winding his fist before collapsing all of the force onto Areion's abdomen. His arm pierced through the skin and into the body cavity. Gripping the stomach, Orixar heaved the slippery organ out of the cavity in one stroke and raised it into the air.

I didn’t know this app’s formatting would be this limiting, however I tried to alter the format of my writing for better flow for readers. If this format isn’t panning out, please let me know.

I hope you enjoyed the story!
