Chapter 20

“I’ve got it, Thurston. Let me have the remote.” Soon, the news began filtering into the kitchen. His dad had probably just hit a wrong button.

Graham made the sandwiches and set them on the table with some fresh grapes and lemonade. “Lunch is ready.”

The men ate quietly, digging into the sandwiches. Sam sat next to Graham’s dad and directly across from him. Graham couldn’t keep his eyes off the man, but Sam refused to make eye contact.

“What’s going on with you two? You have a fight?” his dad asked.

Sam glanced at Graham before turning to Thurston. “Of course not.”

Graham couldn’t make himself lie to his dad, so he stayed quiet.

His dad put down his sandwich and glanced between them. He sighed and shook his head. “Guys, I’m going to intrude on your personal lives, so please indulge an old man for a moment.”

Graham started to argue that he wasn’t old, but his dad held up his hand.
