Chapter 19

“What do you mean whenyou get it?”

Shit.He hadn’t meant to say that. “I mean…well, shit. Think about it, Sam. It’s thick in my family. My dad had a gene study done and he had two copies of the APOE e4 gene.”

“Have you had one done?”

His body chilled and he shivered. He’d thought about it, but assumed it wouldn’t matter. “No.”

“You know that just because you have it in the family doesn’t mean you will get it, right?”

Logically he knew that. “My sister had the study done before she had kids and she doesn’t have any of the markers that make her a high risk. It doesn’t mean she won’t be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at some point, but she felt better about it.”

“That’s true, Graham. There is no definite predictor, but if you’re worried about it, go ahead and get tested.”

Graham went quiet. He’d wanted to wait until he saw Sam face to face before telling him his decision, but now, while discussing the very reason he didn’t date, seemed the right time.
