Chapter 13: The inhabitants!

A 'click' sound ran through Ryan's mind as a screen appeared before him showing his EXP harvesting.

[You will get more EXP when you battle and defeat your opponents than a simple snipe. The longer your battle lasts, the harder it would be and you will get more experience in fights. As such, you will earn more EXP.

Due to the current being a simple snipe, you got 1k EXP. The spar in the Mech Association lasted long enough and you learned a thing or two and hence, you got 1.5k.] Sarah explained the EXP figures before Ryan can raise any doubts.

Ryan said an 'okay' to Sarah in his mind. He was inwardly very happy due to being successful in his first mission. He was eager to submit the success report to the Mech Association and earn the reward.

Before he decided to exit the 'Dark World', Sarah went towards the formation rock and lit a fire around it. Due to the amount of heat and the low level of the arrays, the formation slowly crumbled and the supplies inside also went into ashes.

After making sure of leaving the dead body in the bushes so that no one can easily find it, they left the place to their home.

It was already past midnight when they reached home. Due to being late, Ryan had to hear a nice nag from his Mom while his Dad looked at him apologetically. Sarah escaped the scene by escaping to her kin.

After a nag that lasted 15 minutes, Ryan went to his room tired and fell onto his bed. He didn't know when he went to meet Lady Sleep but, he spent a nice time with her and left with a 'bye' at 8 AM in the morning.

After the usual chit-chat with his family, he walked towards the Mech Association followed by Sarah. They talked about some random things on their way to let the boredom go away.

After they reached their destination, Ryan went over to the desk and gave the lady his ID Card. The ID Card contained the credentials of the mission. After he gave the proof of his completing the mission, it was marked success and he got his reward. He had also taken a pic of the dead body before he left as proof!

{Assassinate the main guard of the black market in the city.

Reward: 500 credits.

Information: He is found on the outskirts of the city at night every day. He is at Mechanical Apprentice(5th realm). The mission is to assassinate him without alerting the members of the black market.

He nodded his head at the 500 credits that he got. He thanked the lady and exited the Mech Association. His next stop was the park to relax till the evening.

In the park…..

It was noon and the sun was shining brightly in the sky. On one of the benches in the park, a lone man was sitting with a bowl in his hands. Some steam was coming off from this bowl indicating something hot was in the bowl.

On his left side was a lady who had her eyes closed seemingly sleeping. The man was undoubtedly Ryan while the lady was Sarah. Ryan was eating some hot noodles as it was 2 PM.

He ate the noodles and put the paper bowl in the bin places a meter away from him. He just sat in the shade of a tree looking at the birds and hearing them chirp in the midst of tall trees.

He seemingly drifted into many thoughts that he himself wasn't aware of. He was in a state of emptiness. Despite his brain processing many thoughts, nothing came into his mind. His eyes were open but, it wasn't any better than being asleep. His mind wasn't in the present.

Ryan continued to stay in this state for hours until sunset and Sarah awakened him from his trance state. He was astonished at the passing of time. He directly went home as he didn't want another nagging session by his mother.

Somewhere in the vast Universe….

There were many tubes in a dimly lit room. No! There weren't many but, millions of tubes! Each of them had a thing inside them. They looked like humans but were somewhat different from them in some, body features.

One of the corners of the room was brightly lit. There were about 10 tubes in that place. Of which 9 were golden in color while the remaining one was coated with a silver sheen and was sparking.

Inside that sparkling tube was a gorgeous lady who didn't look any different from a human. Everyone would think this was a torture camp or some genetic testing camp. No! It wasn't any of them. As for what exactly it is, that's a story for another day.

Suddenly, the door opened revealing a man who looked in his 60s. He had white hair and a beard. His face had a wise look and his eyes sparkled with knowledge.

Behind him were some guards wearing black coats that hid their features.

The old man went towards the tube which sparked. He kept his hand on it and said in a sad tone

"You will be back soon. I know the war is near and you are our last hope. All your brothers and sisters are on the same mission. I hope nothing happens to you and you will be back happily.

The XX has launched attacks on different parts of our planet. We can hold for some more years. But, we will essentially fail if the plan fails…."

The old man left without telling about the 'plan.' It was evident that the lady inside the tube couldn't hear anything as there wasn't any change of expression on her beautiful face.

After the old man left, the door closed and the inhabitants of the tube continued to do the mission they were told to do.
