The Masked Oath

When Casimir's mother was killed before he could even count, his life took a turn for the worst. His early maturity was not a choice and neither was honing his sharp mind especially when being an orphan in an unforgiving world at such an age, was a death sentence. But against whatever odds pitted against him Casimir made it to the age of awakening mostly intact, that is if you chose to ignore his mental capabilities. Despite the early misfortune, his already dark fate would take another defining turn when he would awaken with a dreadful and terrible origin.

The Four Musketeers

Casimir and Oscar had already given each other as much advice as two people who trained together could do. As for the remaining two squad members, they inquired about shortcomings they had met. Of the two remaining members, Michelle seemed to have come up against more than one roadblock as opposed to Oliver.

Michelle had fair skin and hazel eyes that contrasted well with her dirt-brown hair. Her face was soft and she was objectively pretty. She was also the shorter after three within the group. She was not as talkative as Oscar but she was lively and got along well with everyone. The remaining member Oliver had dark skin and black hair, however, his eyes were grey suggesting that his parents were probably from the same place Casimir's father was. Grey was such a nice colour. Oliver was about as tall as Casimir and a bit taller than Oscar however he wasn't as muscular as Oscar, Oscar was built like a tank.

Oliver had a tamer personality compared to the other team and was about as reserved as Casimir, so him and Casimir got along well because they knew not much needed to be said and did not mind the silence that would ensue in each other 's company. You could say Oliver and Casimir were two sides of the same coin. Oliver was also a very good fighter, and then an even better marksman, he was one of those who were selected to do extra training in ranged weapons should he decide to leave the vanguard.

As for Michelle, she was not as fundamentally impressive as the other three with a weapon but her origin was very handy and practical. It gave her the ability to see and sense 'conscious energy' as she termed it in a fight. So, her skill with the blades was more or less carried by her Origin ability. Oscar's origin was more suited for fighters, the ability he had at the moment allowed him a burst of strength and vitality for as long as he had to ether, so essentially, he was the perfect vanguard tank hybrid. As for Oliver the origin ability he had received from his origin so far, allowed him to manipulate light and create illusions. They didn't share much about their origins except the abilities they currently had at their disposal. No one usually did.

They all knew that Casimir's ability had to do with fire, but that was all they knew. If anyone was tight-lipped when it came to secrets it was Casimir. He would keep it that way for as long as he could. For the most part, Casimir didn't even want information about him flying around. Michelle was now arguing with Oscar about her form when parrying attacks with the flat of her spear's blade.

"How is that even possible, what you said makes no sense at all even a toddler makes more sense than you."

"Okay, I was being nice now you started it."

"What do you mean you started it? You told me my form is wrong then explain to me as if you've never spoken your mother tongue a day in your life. What the hell is Fill your Centre of gravity and spring it upwards?"

"Hey now, that's not what I said you forgot the parts will your blade should align."

"Align with what?"

"Your vision."

The conversation was going nowhere, and Michelle sighed exasperated. Oliver decided that was the best time to interject and played the mediator.

"Listen you two how about this, since Oscar trains more with Cas I'm sure He should recognize what Oscar is trying to say and try and break it down for Michelle. The least we need right now is as fighting amongst ourselves, we must be gearing up to work with the other groups you must remember we're not necessarily a popular group with our peers. The house divided amongst itself always falls."

"She's the stubborn one, not me"

"How is that an expression of my stubbornness."

"Oh, so you know you are stubborn?"

"Enough! Casimir, please help us"

Oliver looked over to Casimir with pleading eyes. Casimir was finding the little argument amusing but they had to move forward.

"Michelle what Oscar is trying to say is when you stand ready to parry an overhead strike, your heels must be planted and your hips locked. Make sure your blade rises at approximately a sixty-degree angle and place your forearm on the lower end of your shaft and then open your palm on the upper end, when you meet the strike do not take it head-on but try to guide it down towards your side that's about it."

"Thank you, Cass, now Oscar my dear that is how you explain to someone, not your infantile gibberish."

"Guys am I supposed to take this, she just keeps on insulting."

"Moving onto more pressing matters, seeing as how this is going to be our first field assignment Lieutenant Banks and her officers, well for the most part, will be leading the squadron and all its units when attacking or defending. Of course, as you know it's going to be hard since it's life and death and not just some simulator so we're going to have to watch each other's back our group consists mainly of vanguard fighters so in our unit will probably be the vanguard, I think Cass and I should watch over Michelle while Oscar plays the main man."

"That works for me."

"Me as well."

Casimir only responded with a nod but the group is now used to that. They knew he had agreed or in better terms, would tolerate it.

"Hey Cass, since we don't have any lectures how about you and I go spar again."

Much to Oscar's disappointment Casimir declined, he explained that he needed to go and see Officer Evelyn, and receive he's package for coming first in the physicals for his third month running, the rankings for the theoretical tests hadn't come out yet but the ones for the physical had.

Excusing himself Casimir made his way towards Officer Evelyn's office.
