The Tale of Mary, The Necromancer, Part Seven

Outside an ominous portal, against the backdrop of an overcast sky, a stern-faced woman clad in a crisp uniform approached Mary with purpose. She held out a small device, a body camera, and instructed Mary to affix it securely to her attire.

"This camera will monitor your performance," the woman explained, her tone clipped and efficient. "We'll be watching closely."

Mary nodded, her expression resolute as she fastened the camera in place.

Beside her, Vee stood tall, her eyes fixed on the portal with a determined glint.

In addition to the body camera, they were handed a set of equipment, slightly superior to their own, a subtle upgrade that promised a marginal advantage in the challenges that lay ahead.

The detective, who had spoken to them earlier, observed from a distance, his gaze intent as he assessed their preparations.

"Are you ready?" Vee's voice cut through the tension, her eyes meeting Mary's with unwavering determination.
