A shadow moved in the distance as the five pairs of eyes squinted to figure out what—or who—it was. Ashe stepped forward, her feet crunching the pieces of wood underneath. Her breath had halted as she reached forward, blinking.

The boy from the shadows emerged and his green eyes connected with hers.
