CHAPTER 17 GYPSUT

"Master," says Saumur. "I have a report from the dungeons. It is about Alpha Dhiren's false mate."

"What does that cur want now?"

"He would like to see her. He is pleading for mercy. He says, and I quote, 'I didn't know she was your property. You can have the whore, just let me go please.' How should we procede?"

"Torture him, but do not kill him."

"Yes Master. As you wish."

Saumur's departure is only signaled by a gust of wind. I stand on her balcony watching as she cries while clutching a photo close. She is distraught over the loss of her child, but not of her mate. The aphrodisiac must be weakening. I decide to let her grieve a while before announcing my presence. Seeing her beginning to clam, I knock on the window startling her. She looks up alarmed, then closes off her emotions before hurriedly stuffing her bag back into its hiding spot.

Getting up quickly, she stands in front of the sliding glass door and instead of unlocking it to let me in, she proceeds to close all the curtains and walk away. Ah, yes. This is something that I had not forgotten about her. She definitely still has an attitude all her own and is stubborn to the point of exasperation. This was not going to be easy, but then again, nothing worth it  ever is. Let the games begin.

I start tapping her window every few minutes just to let her know I am still there. After about an hour of this, her patience is at its limits. "Go away! Leave me alone," she yells in frustration, but she still refuses to look out the curtains and face me.

As a reply to her outburst, I continue tapping just a bit more frequently than before. Inside, I can hear her moving about trying to block out the noise. I hear her as she begins pacing, then again when she throws herself on the bed, stuffing a pillow over her ears. She will give in soon.

Again she moves. Slowly, she inches towards the glass door and pulls the curtain aside. Her face is teaming with rage. She folds her arms and dons a look of irritation. "What do you want?"

Seeing her so agitated amuses me. "I have come to speak with you and ensure you were not injured since you disappeared on me earlier. That was quite clever by the way."

"I'm fine and thanks for the complement but I am not up for chit chat right now. Come back some other time, you know, like never." She closes the curtain and walks away towards the wall opposite from her bed. Before I can begin tapping again, she turns the sound system on and begins blaring music to drown out anything I could do to catch her attention.

"Well played, little one, well played. Now its my move. I hope you are prepared. I would hate to beat my opponent so quickly."

With that, I left her balcony and went to find Conner and Alec. They needed to know the truth, and not the one told by their alpha, but what deal was really struck those years ago. It was going to be a busy day.

I found Alec first. He was in his room, sitting on his bed, crouched over with his head in his hands. "Your alpha lied to you."

"Gypsut." He jumped from his spot, eyes glowing. His stance was decidedly defensive. This one would not fight unless attacked.

"There is no need for that wolf boy. I am just here to set the record straight."

"Ya, and why would I believe anything you say?"

With a sigh, I walk out of the shadows and take a seat in a chair across from the scared second. "Because you know your alpha is wrong. Why would all of this be kept secret from the packs and from Dhiren if it weren't? You know something isn't right about all of this. I just want to tell you what really happened. If I am lying, you will have just heard an amazing story. If not, you will finally know the truth. Regardless, I will tell you. What you do with the new information, is up to you."

Hesitantly he nods his head. "Fine, but one wrong move and it will be considered an act of war and a breach of the agreement made. You will lose the girl if I so much as suspect something is off."

Raising my hands in innocents, I smile. "Fine by me. Shall I begin?"

By the time I am finished telling Alec the entire story without missing any details, he has slumped on the bed in disbelief.

"I knew….I didn't know the extent of it, but I knew something was going on. What are we going to do? How do we fix this?"

Looking at me with fear in his eyes I answer him. "We bring the shadows into the light."
