CHAPTER 16 DHIREN

Something is wrong here. My mind screams monster, but something nudges that there is something more. I feel he has the answers. He knows what happened to me. I have to know. I need to know, but I don't know if the answers are worth my freedom.

Gypsut steps forward and places his hands on either side of my head. I expect pain, a rushing of memories, something. Instead, I feel him lower his head to mine and gently kiss my forehead. "Come, there are many things I must tell you before you regain your memories." He steps back and walks towards the door, only stopping to see if I am following.

My confusion and distrust are plain on my face, but I eventually follow him. He makes me feel comfortable and uneasy at the same time. We walk towards the woods that I viewed from my room. Reaching the edge of the tree line, Gypsut turns to me and says, try to keep up. Before I can ask what I am supposed to keep up with, he is gone. He is faster than I imagined. I smile to myself. This was going to be fun. One last look at the alpha house and I am racing through the trees tracking Gypsut who manages to stay just ahead of me.

As we run I hear running water. I suddenly stop seemingly in a trance. I follow the sound to the top of a waterfall that is about 30 feet tall with rocks at the bottom. As I look at the water I feel the urge to jump. Before I can stop myself, I am diving into the water below. As I plummet through the air, I can't help but think I am going to die when I hit the rocks.

I crash into the water below nicking a rock with my left arm, but I don't acknowledge the pain. I am tunneling through the water and into another vision. The grey scale remains, but I am in a new location. Gypsut is staring out of a window of what appears to be an office. Someone enters and kneels before him.

"Master. They have moved her again. The decoy has been dealt with."

Gypsut's nose wrinkles in rage and snarl rips from his throat. His fist slams into the desk behind him and splits in two. "They cannot hide her from me. She is mine."

"Sir, I have more news." At this, Gypsut's eyebrows raise. Something else is wrong. "She has a mate…and a child."

Gypsut's eyes burn with rage. "Bring them to me alive. Kill the rest."

I am pulled from the vision by strong arms that force me to the surface. I gasp for air when we reach land. Once my breathing is once again under control, I realize that Gypsut is the one who has pulled me up.

"What the hell were you trying to do?! You could have killed yourself." His eyes are silver now.

"I….I'm sorry, I just….I had to…I saw…..I'm sorry," I manage to stutter out.

It is then that he realizes I have been hurt. He pulls my arm forward for a closer look.

"I'm fine. It will heal in a few moments." As if by magic, my arm is healed and all that is left of the injury is the blood on my arm.

"What did you see," Gypsut quietly asks.

"Nothing. I didn't see anything." I look away unable to meet his gaze.

"Lier. Tell me what you saw or I will force it out of you."

I call his bluff. "Do your worst."

A small corner of his mouth lifts into a smile as my only warning. Before I can protest, he picks me up and throws me back into the water. The joke is on him. This pond is where Conner and I grew up playing when we were kids. We know that behind the waterfall is a cave that has a passage that exits from a cluster of trees near the alpha's house. I resurface for a gulp of air and then submerge back under the water and out of reach of Gypsut.

Once under the waterfall, I am careful to remain silent  in my escape. After a few minutes of walking through the passageway, I can hear Gypsut calling out for me worriedly. Serves him right.

Feeling  I am far enough away, I shift and make my way to the tunnel's exit. I am able to make it to my room without Gypsut finding me. Conner and his father on the other hand, meet me at the door. Seeing me soaking wet, they immediately retrieve a towel for me. Assuring them both that I am fine and just want to be alone to rest for a while, I enter my room locking the door behind me.

Once out of my wet clothes. I settle on a hot bubble bath. I leave the tub to fill while I grab clothes for when I get out and an unused towel. Ensuring again that my room is secure and locked in every way, I return to the bathroom and lock that door as well. I turn on music on my phone to help me relax. By now, the tub is full and so I slowly inch my way into the relaxing heat. I soak for about half an hour before I talk myself into washing.

Once washed and toweled off, I dress. Putting on a long sleeve, cobalt blue shirt and a pair of jeans, I walk back into my room while towel drying my hair and humming along to the music. I walk over to the dresser and setting down the towel, pull out a pair of socks and slip them on my feet. Singing along to the song as I dance my way back into the bathroom to brush my hair, I feel a sadness pull at my heart. My son and I used to sing along together as we got ready in the mornings. While I felt I loved his father, his father only seemed to lust for me. My one true love was the only gift I ever got from my husband. My son was the only one who mattered to me.

I quietly and solemnly brush my hair and walk back to my room. Going over to the closet, I pull out the emergency bag I had made, should I need to leave in a hurry. Inside of the front pocket in a plastic bag are the what remains of my son's memory. It holds a necklace he got me and a single picture of him. I hold his picture to my chest and I smile at the thought of holding him again as silent tears trail down my face.
