If truth would be told, courage was not the only thing that it took to be able to fight the dark force. Wit and skill were a given, but another thing that was of utmost importance was the ability to set aside one's emotion when the situation called for it.
Without a strong heart, mind, and resolve, there was no way a demon slayer could last in this battle with demons.
A time would come when we have to deal with people we used to know. To be honest, it was one of the most heartbreaking things to happen; being left with no choice but to kill someone that used to be your friend with your own hands.
It was for that reason why we, in spite of the fact that fallen angels used to coexist with mortals in this realm for millennia, most of us still continue our practice of keeping our distance from them.
We learned from our brethren's mistake and so we preferred not to have anything to do with humans at all, and if ever an interaction was required, we opt to keep the relationship as neutral as possible because we wanted to avoid getting any form of emotional attachment.
As I have mentioned earlier, it was not inevitable that there were times that we have to deal with someone that we used to know. Oftentimes, this was what get my kin killed in the mission.
They tended to hesitate at the last minute when they were asked to kill someone they used to know who either happened to end up falling prey to the demon skins or turned out to be a host.
Once a mortal got a wound from a clash with demons, the best end for them was death. Because if you are going to ask my opinion about this, I would say that it would be better for them to die as a human rather than to end up as collateral damage; another slave of darkness.
Over time, we learned that once the blood of a demon got mixed with human blood, it would create a ghoul and if that would be the case, they would be no different from being a minion of the demon skins.
Ghouls were the type of demons that has a taste for human flesh. In a sense, they were grosser than demon skins. Because at the very least, a demon skin, only commits murders at most. They found joy in killing and try to initiate bloodshed every now and then.
Ghouls on the other hand were on an entirely different level of savageness. They would not be satisfied by just killing their prey, not to mention in the most horrendous way possible; they would also snack on them!
It was for that reason why most of my colleagues preferred dealing with ten demon skins rather than one ghoul.
Any kind of wound or scratch that was acquired after a clash with creatures of the dark was referred to by us, as 'spirit wound.' This was what set as a medium for a demon to gain control over a person.
But there were times that when a person got their spirit wound and by any chance they happened to survive an attack from a demon, instead of losing themselves they would turn into a seer and end up gaining something nice in return; something close to superpower ability.
However, this occurrence was so rare, like one in a million chance that we did not exactly encourage getting a spirit wound actively. It was not worth the risk, anyway. I tell you.
Why? You would probably ask.
Well, the thing was, among demons slayer, seers have the highest mortality rate.
Due to the fact that these 'mortals turned superhuman' were often quite short for years of experience battling with demons, they usually end up dying first during a clash.
