Death Magic, and Necromancy

(Turns out Elves exist in DxD. They are part of the Norse Pantheon which makes sense. Light and Dark Elves from Alfheim.)

Once MacGregor had confirmation, at the end of the month he took Romonus to the headquarters of the Golden Dawn. The Mages Association had its main headquarters in the Underworld, but it also had a branch in London. First, they went to the London Branch since Dormuteth was often hidden away.

When he and MacGregor appeared in London, Romonus looked around the city as he had never traveled out of America when he was human. Carla was quite poor and she rarely let him go out. When he looked at his Master, he saw that he looked the same as always.

As usual, he was dressed in his fancy mage suit. Suddenly he turned to Romonus next to him.

"Was it you?"

"The Vampire attack? Yes."

The British mage hissed.

"Damn. The Tepes Faction is no more. After you attacked them the Werewolves instantly attacked the weakened Faction."

Romonus nodded.

"I know. I went personally to congratulate King Arjac on his victory."

MacGregor shook his head.

"I will keep that to myself. Anyways here we are."

In front of them was a giant Sky Scraper which was the human front of The Golden Dawn. When they both went inside, Romonus felt the hum of hundreds of magic wards.

"Fancy."

MacGregor nodded.

"They are."

They both walked over to the receptionist who froze at the sight of MacGregor. She opened her hand and a Mage staff appeared in it. She slammed it down and in moments every mortal human who was around them froze and walked out.

"Lord Mathers, what can I do for you?"

MacGregor smiled as he walked over with his fancy cane.

"Heidi, I see your use of magic is as skilled as ever. I am here with my apprentice Romonus. My mentor Dormuteth wanted to take him under his wing for a few months."

At the mention of one of the oldest and biggest sources of Lost Knowledge in their Order, Heidi became very respectful.

"Of course."

She reached into her pocket and pulled out a Golden Coin. She handed it over to MacGregor who flipped it in the air. Romonus caught the coin and looked at it.

"Isn't this a Daric?"

MacGregor nodded as he took the coin back.

"Yup, the currency of The Persian Empire. My mentor uses these enchanted coins as a means to find him. Though he personified them."

Rather than a Persian King, they had Undead Kings on either side. Once he was holding the Coin, MacGregor surged his Demonic Energy inside as the enchantment activated. He tossed the coin forward and a massive black gate opened in front of them.

MacGregor turned to Heidi and tipped his hat.

"Good to see you again."

She smiled and waved at him.

"Of course."

As they stepped into the Portal Romonus asked his Mentor about her.

"Someone you know?"

MacGregor smiled.

"My Great Granddaughter."

Romonus didn't know that MacGregor had children. He was going to ask him, but he held off when they stepped through the gate. What Romonus saw was not what he expected. Rather than a dark room where he expected a Necromancer, he saw a clean study with many shelves covered in books.

However, in the middle of the room was a dark skeleton reading a book. He wore a red and black suit, with his skull fully visible. He glanced up at MacGregor causing his black soul eyes to burn more intensenly.

He almost seemed to smile.

"My apprentice and his apprentice. Welcome to my study."

Romonus instantly noticed that he was speaking in Ancient Persian. The Lich rose from his seat before placing his book back on the chair. When he stood Romonus saw that this Lich was tall at least 6'6. While he was all bone his bones were broad and large.

He radiated a powerful Necrotic Aura which would match that of a powerful Satan Class Devil. MacGregor bowed before the Lich.

"Mentor Dormuteth, I am glad to see your mind still as sharp as ever."

Dormuteth scoffed as the soul flames in his eyes burned.

"My mind is still as formidable as it always was. Unlike other Liches I have not lost my way, I am a scholar first and Necromancer second. But I digress, you must be Romonus?"

Romonus placed a hand on his heart and bowed.

"I am."

Dormuteth looked him up and down before nodding.

"You know the Soul Arts yes?"

"I do."

"Excellent. I take the Grimoire my student wrote for you helped? I did the same for him, but he never had the talent to use the art of Necromancy."

MacGregor seemed bitter as he had tried his best.

"I never had the affinity for Death Magic which is needed."

Dormuteth ignored him as he walked closer to Romonus and looked him up and down. Mostly he was trying to gaze at his soul which Romonus allowed.

"What a mighty Soul you possess. Perfect for Necromancy and the arts of Instant Death."

Dormuteth raised his skeletal hand and began to scan Romonus. He needed to check if he had an affinity for the art of Death Magic which was rare. However, he froze when he felt something.

"The Harvestor's Favor and a pure affinity for Death Magic?"

MacGregor suddenly remembered something.

"Right? When we summoned The Harvestor, he patted your head."

Hearing his words Dormuteth's skull seemed to smile.

"Excellent, this is excellent. It appears I have found the perfect student to pass on my craft."

Romonus asked the question he had.

"Does Necromancy involve bones and Zombies?"

Dormuteth chuckled at the question.

"Maybe the riff-raff, but I am not them. Over my 2,000 years alive I have carefully dived into the art of Necromancy, Death Magic, and Souls. You may see how there is no undead around me yes? Because they are all in my shadow. I don't deal in corpses, I deal in Souls. Soul Soldiers."

From Dormuteth's Soul emerged a giant dark shadow knight. It radiated a fierce aura in the Ultimate Class and seemed to be stable.

"This is my unique Necromancy, no corpses, no Zombies, no Skeletons. Pure Souls. Interested?"

Romonus instantly bowed.

"I am. Accept Me as your student, Master."

Dormuteth turned to MacGregor and waved him off.

"You can leave, I taught you what I could."

MacGregor shrugged.

"Fine, see you Romonus."

Once he teleported away Dormuteth dispelled his shadow.

"Follow me, you have a long way to go before you can use Necromancy. You need to learn to use your Death Magic which will be the easy part. It's the Soul Manipulation that is the hard part, but you already got that down."

Romonus started to follow the giant Lich with a question.

"How can I use Death Magic and why hasn't MacGregor seen it?

"Simple. Without Death Magic of your own, you can't interact with it. As for you, you have one of the purest affinities for the art I have seen. Which is confusing that you have yet to tap into it."

"I never really tried."

"That explains it then."

Eventually, Dormuteth led them down a spiral staircase into his lab. It was still a clean place as he was not a savage. He was a Mage and Scholar that used Necromancy. He preferred his study to reflect that.

"The first step is to get you to feel your Death Magic. The most simple way is for me to do this."

Dormuteth placed a hand on Romonus' back and began to surge his own Death Magic into Romounus' body. Normally it would begin to kill the person because by its name Death Magic was harsh on the body.

However, Romonus' Demon Physiology and the fact that he had lived a past life took effect. The Death Magic Dormuteth surged into his body and was processed by his Demonic Mana body and the blessing The Harvestor gave him.

The Lich stepped back and watched as Romonus' dormant affinity for the art awoke. A large aura of Death surged from his body fueled by his Demon physiology. Dormuteth wanted to smile at the sight as Romonus focused.

He surged his Demonic Mana into his hands and watched as the purple energy began to turn into a hazy darkness. Romonus clenched his hands and dispelled the Death Magic.

"How was that?"

Dormuteth began to clap his bony hands together overjoyed.

"I am awed and inspired by you. Your affinity for Death Magic appears to be quite potent. Are you ready to begin your studies?"

Romonus nodded.

"I am. I am open to learn my mentor."

"Alright then. I want to see what you have discovered on Souls as they will form the core of your Necromancy. The body is useful, but it has its limitations. When the Soul becomes the body, you can remove the restrictions it brings. Let's begin.

Your first lesson is the applications of Death Magic."

"Right."

---

Romonus' apprenticeship under Dormuteth lasted for the better part of 10 months. Dormuteth taught everything he knew about Souls, Death Magic, Magic itself, and Necromancy. The Lich in his 2,000 years of Life and Undeath had met only a few talented students like Romonus a couple of times.

MacGregor had been the very last student he had taken and he had become Romonus' mentor in magic. Not to disrespect his teacher, but Dormuteth's knowledge of Magic exceeded MacGregor's by far.

He didn't just teach Romonus how to use Soul Magic, Death Magic, and Necromancy. He mentored him in the use of Dimensional Magic, Time Magic, Space Magic, Void Magic, and even spells of the Forbidden Nature.

Thanks to this, his knowledge of Magic of all kinds improved to a shocking degree. From the most basic of Fire Magic to the most Forbidden of Rituals Romonus now knew a great deal.

The issue with the Forbidden Spells is that casting these Spells would reduce his Life Span which is why Dormuteth told him to never use them unless necessary. Romonus thanked his Mentor as during his free time he and Azazel had worked together to continue to train Valerie.

Azazel was also almost done with the Time Chamber which Romonus was going to use to speed up his training. The biggest change was Valerie and Vespera evolved into Demonic Vampires because of drinking his blood. Because of this, Valerie had reached a point where she could begin to make modifications to living beings.

They continued to test on small animals and plants, and they had found success. She had granted incredible regenerative abilities to every animal which could regenerate even its head when cut off.

Plants that seemed to grow without end needed Romonus to fully obliterate them with the Power of Destruction. As for the animals, they were harmless so Romonus let Valerie keep them as her familliars.

They had done many tests to ensure everything was without side effects and Azazel even brought a Fallen Angel criminal set for execution. Valerie was allowed to run her experiments on the poor fool.

She was much more willing to do such acts because of her evolution. In the end, she managed to grant him a nearly immortal body which Romonus ended by obliterating the guy's body leaving his soul behind.

Using what his mentor Dormuteth taught him, Romonus used his Necromancy and turned the guy's soul into a shadow. Much like Sung Jin Woo the Shadow Monarch. It was weak as the Fallen Angel had only had 1 set of wings.

Azazel wanted to know more, but Romonus was pretty tight-lipped. Azazel respected that, but now that Valerie reached such a point Romonus was going to subject himself to enhancements.

If he wanted to be like Aži Dahāka and use Forbidden Magics with no side effect he needed enhancement. Valerie was now much more confident in herself and guaranteed to grant all the modifications he wanted.

Romonus specifically wanted to be granted the near Immortal body, a reduction in his weakness to Holy Magic, and protection to his Life Span. Valerie would do them at the same time as she could always add more later on when she got her Balance Breaker.

Romonus and Valerie went up into his room which was his actual room from the Bael Castle. That was probably his favorite enchantment his room and Forge Room have. Once they were here he locked the door and turned to Valrie. She took a deep breath as this was the real deal.

"Are you ready?"

Valerie nodded.

"I am."

Romonus removed his shirt and laid down on the bed with his back to the sky. Valerie climbed onto his back and sat down on it. She opened her hands and the three Grails of Sephiroth Graal floated in front of her.

"In that case, I will begin."

The three Golden Grails landed on his back as their power under Valerie's control surged into his body.
