Struggles of Suresh (Part - 3)

Seeing the money I got, it was around ₹2000. Then as I knew that I was going to a job interview I knew, so I choose to get a new shirt and trouser. The year was 2016 and there we could get good quality clothes for cheap. I went to nearby market and went to a local readymade clothing store to get the new clothes for interview.

I choose a simple plain navy blue shirt and a black trouser then I got a belt with a diagonal multi coloured stripped tie. After that I went a local shoe shop and got a a good cheap pair of synthetic black Oxford shoe. This completed the streotypical attire of an Indian interviewee. Then I went to my room provided by the hotel and ate the talked to the manager about going to an interview. The manager was an understanding person as he helped me to get more money as I didn't have any bad habits (though it would be difficulty for an underaged child to get alcohol from shop). Then I went to my room to sleep but I couldn't as it was totally out of my comfort zone as I had no idea about how was the interview was going to be. Trying to psyching myself i thought 'how much the life could go bad than this' though I knew it could get a lot worse. This helped me to sleep at night.

The next day came and I woke up early and got redy to go to the Mittal Dealership in Bandra, Mumbai. I got out of the hotel room around 7.30 to reach the office early as it opens at 9.30. So after nearly an hour of traveling I got near the office. Then I had my breakfast nearby and brought a perfume as I was already sweaty and didn't want my sweaty smell to reduce my chance of getting a job.

Then the office opened and I showed the card that the old man gave me, the security gaurd had some suspicion and didn't allow me inside and instead sent another person to call the manager. After waiting for a few minutes manager came and saw the card and escorted me inside the office and told the gaurds that the owner was expecting a man with his personal card. Then manager said that Mittal sir would come around 10, so I had to wait another half an hour. So I just watched some F1 highlights to reduce my nervousness.

Then I saw the old man come to the office and I stood up as he got near me. He saw me and smiled a bit and said to wait for a few minutes. I once again sat there and after sometime a young lady came and said that sir was expecting me. I then got up and went to the office room of Mittal sir. Then I entered the office and was met with sir along with few more members including the manager whom I had met before.

"So you only studied till only till 10th and did odd jobs till now, so why didn't you persue higher studies your results are quite good if not better than most students" the manager questioned me. "I was actually very under informed about the education system and the orphanage didn't help me and I was told to get out of orphanage as I was over the age limit" I replied the manager. They became silent but after sometime Mittal sir spoke, "did you ever had any experience with cars". I said that I didn't have any experience practically but I have a vast knowledge of cars through YouTube videos. This was quite different for them but they proceed with interview, "so do you love cars or it was just a hobby thing". I said, " this is not any hobby sir but it is my dream to be near the best cars and drive them. When I watch the F1 cars racing in the circuit, I get a feeling that is indescribable, but it is like I forget the life is miserable and enjoy the speed fest".

They all had some smile on their faces. "So how much fluently and confidently can you speak english ? As most customers come here usually prefer to speak in english". "Actually sir, I have learnt how to speak and understand english from various videos from YouTube and trying to understand what they are saying". "So you learnt how to repair a car from watching YouTube videos ?" they questioned me. I felt abashed as it felt ridiculous that someone learnt about cars without touching a car, "sir it may be unbelievable but it was the only way that I could follow my passion and dream. It also kinda helped you as I found you on that nature trail" I replied confidently.

They all seemed satisfied with my reply and then asked me, "so we don't know how good of a mechanic you are but do you know how to drive a car". "I do know how to drive a car but I don't have any experience in driving any luxury cars" I answered them. I did learn to drive a mini truck for my job and can drive cars through YouTube videos so it was a good thing for me. "Ok, let's gauge your mechanical skills and decide which job will be suitable for you, Raghav take Suresh to our mechanical depot and ask our senior mechanic to see his skills, after that take a car and let him drive on our test track" said Mittal sir and others also agreed.

Then I went with the manager (Raghav) to the mechanic depot and he introduced me to the senior mechanic of that garage. The senior mechanic was a man around 40s or 50s. "Hello my name is Rustom Nazir, I am the senior mechanic for the Mittal automobiles and you must be the kid that saved Mittal sir and mam from being stranded on that remote area" he introduced himself to me. "Yes that person would be me and it qhite an honour to meet you" I replied courtiously. Then he took me to the repair area to introduce me to the other mechanics there.
