College Registration

Victoria begins to guide Ray to the road to Alfuris City, after around thirty minutes of walking they eventually arrive as they enter and continue to go towards the college.

Ray's stomach grumbles. 'Damn, I doubt this city will accept a credit card…'

Victoria notices Ray's stomach and says "Hey, would you like to eat first? It's on me, it's the least I could do."

"Yes please." Ray says with a sigh of relief.

'Maybe I can learn more about this place while we eat.'

Victoria brings him to a pretty fancy restaurant, with a decently long line to get in.

But as soon as the staff sees Victoria walk in, they immediately guide her over to a room with a nameplate above it that says, 'Fireleaf'

Ray doesn't notice this as he is looking around the place, which is a 3 story restaurant.

The top two floors are in a circle with nothing in the center, which allows you to see up to the other levels.

The hole has a translucent light filling it, which dishes are slid across to the person who ordered it. As they walk, many staff members bow to Victoria.

'Hm, she must be important here, or at least her family is. Perfect! First day here and I have already made a powerful connection!'

Victoria and Ray sit down inside the room with an elegant booth inside of it. As they sit a waitress comes up and says,

"Hello! Welcome to the Silk Mirage, what can I get for you today?"

With no hesitation Victoria says, "I would like some Frost Brew wine and an enchanted steak."

Ray quickly looks at the menu for a split second before he looks up then thinks,

'Interesting, I can't read this at all.'

'But we speak the same language... why? Well I have no clue what any of this means...'

"I will also have an enchanted steak and Frost Brew wine." Ray says not knowing anything else on the menu.

The waitress writes the order down quickly and leaves.

Ray looks at Victoria and says, "So… I couldn't help but notice that you are a big shot around here"

Victoria nods, and replies,

"Technically, but it is really because of my family. I assume you know how family lineages can possess certain affinities.

Well my family possesses two affinities, Plant, a sub-affinity of life and earth, and inferno, a sub-affinity of wind and fire.

Due to this my family is skilled in evocation magic, as well as restoration and enhancement magic.

So we are quite versatile and have easily cemented ourselves as a high class noble wizard family, my proper title would be Lady Victoria."

'So… a big shot' Ray feigns a look of surprise.

Ray then says, "Does that mean I have to refer to you as such?"

"Please don't, we're friends after all, but if you don't mind me asking, what affinities do you have?" Victoria responds with a curious look.

'Probably shouldn't mention time, I strongly doubt that it's common, and I don't want to cause suspicion, but it may increase my chances of getting in to the college if I mention gravity'

Ray thinks for a second then responds, "Lightning, wind and gravity"

Victoria looks somewhat surprised and responds,

"Not only do you have three affinities, you also have a unique affinity. Impressive!"

as they chat a bit more, the waitress comes back with their drinks and food, and sets it in front of them, then bows and leaves.

'The food was made this quickly?! That's amazing! It has only been 7 minutes!'

Ray then picks up the wine glass and takes a sip of the drink.

'Delicious! This tastes far better than the wine back home.' After drinking and making small talk with Victoria, Ray tries the steak.

As soon as he eats it he feels a calm feeling wash over him, as a small amount of mana is sent over his body.

After another 15 minutes of eating, Victoria asks,

"So, what circle of mage are you? I happen to be a third circle mage!" She says with a look of pride on her face.

'Damn, how do I respond?! Think!'

as Ray is frantically trying to respond, a transparent card appears in front of him that says,

[At your current level of power you would be a two circle mage, but you have yet to unlock any level of magic, so you are currently just a magic initiate]

'Hm? That's helpful. Well, I should probably go with a magic initiate seeing as how they might have ways of testing it and I'd prefer to not be caught lying.'

Ray then says,

"I am just a magic initiate"

Victoria gasps,

"A magic Initiate?! But, you killed that Gigawolf! You must have trained your body a lot! But… If you want to get into Alfuris College, you are going to have a lot of problems.." she says with a worried expression.

"I should be fine, I might not know any magic, but I am extremely skilled in martial combat!" Ray says with a smile.

"While that may help you get your foot in the door, if you can't keep up you may get expelled." Victoria responds

"Then I will just have to catch up with everyone else."

Ray says while suppressing his thoughts of doubt.

They both then finish their meals and head out again to go to the college.

After 15 minutes of walking they arrive at the gates of a massive castle with 7 large spires, with a magical fog at the top of them each with a different color of the rainbow.

'Wow, I knew this place was massive, but still… This is extremely impressive'

"Welcome to Alfuris College for the Arcane" A loud booming voice rolls over as a man appears seemingly out of nowhere.

He stands at a height of 6 feet and 11 inches, he is wearing a large, extravagant dark blue cloak with light blue lines around it forming several magic circles.

His beard and long hair are pitch black, and he has golden eyes.

He says, "Hello there young Fireleaf, it appears you have brought a friend. Is he a student perhaps?"

"Archmage Alfuris! Well not yet, he is hoping to enroll though!" Victoria says with a smile.

"Perfect, what is your name, young man?" the powerful archmage says as he turns his gaze to Ray.

"My name is Ray Kaine," Ray says.

'Urgh! How is he releasing so much pressure with just his eyes, what kind of magical bullshit is this?!'

he then sees a transparent card appear that says

[ALERT! Foreign mana entering the body! Unable to resist]

Alfuris looks surprised as he looks at Ray,

"To have so much mana at such a young age! Truly impressive, especially for a magic initiate. Alright, you two head to registration, I am quite confident I will be seeing you again, Kaine"

With that, purple light envelops Alfuris as he vanishes.

Victoria notices Ray's surprised face, and says,

"Space affinity, and that was our headmaster, Archmage Arvedius Alfuris. The third head of the Alfuris family."

Ray eventually snaps out of it as they continue on their way to an office, where a calm middle-aged lady is sitting.

She is quite short, only around 4 and a half feet tall. Victoria walks up with Ray and says,

"Professor Marix, may I have some registration papers?"

Marix looks up with a look of mild annoyance and says,

"Yet another applicant who waited until the last second? Fine, fill out these papers quickly, and tell him to get ready for the practical test"

She then hands Victoria a small stack of papers. They move to the other side of the office and sit down, Victoria then hands Ray the papers.

'Damn! How am I supposed to fill this out?' Ray begins to worry, but as he stares at the words and focuses for a bit, the words begin to shimmer, changing into a language he can understand.

'Ok, that's good except for the fact that I can't write!'

As he continues to think about how to write it, he begins to see the words he wants to write translated into symbols he can copy.

He then sees a transparent card appear that says,

[Skill Gained! Universal Language!]

After a couple of minutes spent reading and filling it out, he finishes, then Victoria guides him to a Locker room and says,

"Alright, for the practical exam, you have to beat another applicant in combat to prove you can handle yourself in a fight. So get changed and head out when your name is called."

She then hands him a set of clothing, and leaves.

Ray gets changes into a set of dark blue clothing that isn't restrictive allowing for free movement. And after waiting for ten minutes, he hears a loud voice shout,

"For the next exam, Ray Kaine, report to the Arena!"
