The day of Calamity

Today was a special day for a man known as Luke. For today would be the first day at his dream job. "Four years studying animal biology at an expansive university, which may or may not have taken advantage of me and taken more money from me than needed, and four more years at a vet school and so many jobs to pay off the student loans, but it was all worth it. For me to get my dream job as a veterinarian." Luke said with a big grin on his face as he walked into a nearby vet in his city.

"Welcome," said a man who seemed nice. "Do you have an appointment?" the man said as he looked at Luke, "uh I'm here for my first day at work" Lucas said nervously as he lowered his gaze, trying not to look at the man's eyes. "Oh, you must be the new guy then, come on back," the man said as he opened a door that lead to his side of the counter.

Luke walked behind the counter and the man closed the door behind him, "you know what we do here right" the man said as he lead Lucas to another room. "We help animals that are sick and are Ill and if needed do surgical activities on them," Luke said, the man looked at Luke from the corner of his before looking back at where he was going. "That's what we do here, but there are other things we do at this building, such as researching an animal's family tree, and body structure, and helping nearby zoos with their animals in case they do not have the personnel needed to do certain things."

As the man finished his sentence they stopped in front of a door that had a sign. The sign had the words "Manager" written on it. "This is the managers' office, you should introduce yourself to her," the man said as he opens the door open. Inside was a woman sitting behind a desk, who was working on a pile of papers but stopped when she saw the door open, she looked like she was in her twenties and had beautiful facial features that many men would do anything to marry. "Hey don't fall for her looks, she might look young, but in reality, she is in her thirties," the man said as he noticed Luke's gaze. "Hey don't tell people my real age," the woman said as she got up and walked towards Luke.

"And who you might be," the woman said as she look closely at Luke's face. "My name is Luke and I will be working from here from now on," Luke said as he stood straight. "Oh, so you must be the new guy I requested," the woman said as she walked back to her desk. "My name is Mary and that dumb man next to your name is Dave," Mary said as she pointed at Dave.

"Nice to meet you two," Luke said as he lowered his head. "It's nice to have you with us, you being here can help lower the amount of work that I have to do here," Dave said as he patted Luke's back. "If you dare go lazy I will lower your salary again," Mary said.

"Ok ok got it, let me show you around," Dave said as he walked out of the room, Luke soon followed behind him. As the two of them walked out Mary heard her phone buzzing. She grabbed it and saw a news report saying something about how Europe had suffered from an earthquake.

"I hope they're okay," Mary said as she put her phone on silent and put her phone down. She soon began working on the paperwork once again, unknown to her many more news reports began to talk about how many nations in the eastern hemisphere were suffering from earthquakes out of nowhere.

Back with Luke and Dave, Dave was showing Luke the many facilities they have and the tools and equipment that he will be working with once they get a patient. As they walked around Luke could see several animals in kennels and crates. There are many animals that varied from spiders, hamsters, dogs, and birds. "What are these guys here for," Luke said as he crouched down and looked at a cat who was asleep.

"These guys are here waiting for their owners to pick them up, they should be coming here in a couple of minutes," Dave said as he grabbed a clipboard off the wall and began to look through the papers.

Just as he said this the front door of the building began to open and several voices could be heard. "That's their owners, want to help," Dave said as he walked out of the room, "sure," Luke said as he got up and walked out of the room. As the two of them left the room Luke felt something creep on his spine, as if a hand was creepily being moved across it.

Luke looked back and saw no one behind him "Must be my imagination" Luke said as he walked out towards the counter.

An hour later both Luke and Dave could be seen saying bye to a customer who was taking their pet snake back to their house. "Phew that was the last one," Dave said as he got up from the chair he was sitting on. "So how was your first day," Dave said as he looked at Luke who was right now tired and looked like he would pass out any second. "It was rough, but it was fun," Luke said as he stretched his body which was now aching.

The two of them got up and began to walk to the break room there the two of them ate their homemade food. "Mmmh I do love me some smoked fish. What did you bring?" Luke raised his head and swallowed his food "Just some grilled steak with a side of broccoli and rice" Luke said as he picked up a cut piece of steak with a fork he brought and put it into his mouth.

"Can I have some" Dave said as he could smell the steak from his seat? "Sure," Luke said as he passed a cut piece of steak to Dave. Dave took a bite of it and began to make sounds that showed that he loved the piece of steak. "Man that was delicious. How did you get it to taste like that" Dave said shocked by how the steak tasted.

"Well, I added some peppers alongside with garlic and..." The two of them soon began to talk about how they cooked their foods and how many ingredients are needed to make certain foods and what ingredients weren't needed unless they wanted more flavor to it. They continued talking about this until their work was over.

"See you tomorrow," Dave said as he left the building. "Ok see you tomorrow," Luke said as he left the building and began to walk toward the apartment that he lived in. As he began to walk towards his apartment building he felt happy about his first day at work.

"Can't wait for tomorrow" Luke said, as he continued walking he noticed the lake that his city was next to. He stopped walking and began to look at the fish that were inside of it. As he stared at the fish in the pond, he noticed the pond surface beginning to ripple. He at first ignored this as he thought it was just a fish going up to the surface of the water to get a water bug. But soon began to notice more and more ripples being made on the surface of the water.

"What in the..." Before he could finish his sentence the ground beneath began to shake and several of the nearby cars began that were off soon began to honk loudly as if they were being broken into. Soon the nearby windows began to shatter one by one and several of the people near the glass were harmed by the shattered windows.

Before Luke could comprehend what was going on he soon smell something in the air. When he looked to see what it was, he saw several cars crashing into one another and smoke coming out of the flames. "What's going on," Luke said as he looked around and could only see cars crashing either into other cars or into buildings.

Honk*

Luke heard a car honking near him and before he could react he felt something hard hit him on the right side of his body. He then felt cold water surrounding him and soon his eyes turned blank.

An hour after his death a news reporter could be seen in a helicopter reporting on the current event in the city. "We are above Colorado City and from what we can see is several buildings on fire and many car crashes have occurred ever since this worldwide earthquake occurred.

Though the police and the citizens of the town are helping one another save many of the injured, there have still been reported deaths from this incident. The amount is still not known, but many law enforcement believe it to be about twenty-two deaths, and many more are being discovered right now."

This incident was just happening in this single city, but around the world as many news channels began to report on the worldwide incident. Many researchers tried to figure out the cause of this worldwide earthquake, but couldn't understand what possible way this could have happened and when they came up with a theory on how it happened they still couldn't figure out how it happened without the government and organizations to figure it out. Many researchers decided to give the worldwide incident, but after some debate they decided on a single name and called the incident "The Great Quake."

In a place covered by trees that could be as big as skyscrapers and lakes that looked as if they had no end to it. A cave could be seen, inside the cave, an egg could be seen.

The egg soon began to crack open and in one of the openings an eye could be seen. The eye looked like one that belonged to a snake as it had slit pupils that belonged to them. A noise could be heard from the egg "W-where am I?"
