Maxwell sat opposite the four recruits that he had chosen to watch over. They each stood out from each other, and they had been picked from both cities. Two from Willow City, and two from Gold City.
Maxwell was able to access all of their information from his comm on his wrist, but he felt it would be better if they were able to introduce themselves so that they could also get to know each other.
"My name is Maxwell, and I am a Baron of the Black Gold Organization. I have been tasked with overseeing your growth, and so, that is what I will do. I hope we can get along, but be aware of the fact that I will discard you at once if you fail to listen to my instructions." Maxwell introduced himself while also passing a sound warning to the recruits. "Please introduce yourselves."
"My name is Connor Halls."
"I'm Elijah Gran."
"My name is Robin Wells."
"I'm Rowan Heart."
After everyone introduced themselves, they all paused to take a good look at Rowan. There was once a very famous figure that went by Roland Heart on Henan. Although he was no longer present, he was still mentioned in every school, so kids knew that name very well!
Even Maxwell paused with a frown. He had not expected that.
"By any chance, might you be related to the renowned Roland Heart ?" He hesitantly asked.
"Yes, that was my father." Rowan nodded with a straight face.
"Oh, I see. Well, even if your father was an Earl, don't expect me to go easy on you." Maxwell quickly regained his composure and told Rowan. Although he was shocked, he did not let that little factor get in the way of him completing his mission. A lot of merits were at stake!
"I never expected you to, sir." Rowan replied him with a nod. He had not been expecting any special treatment. Although there was the possibility of such, considering the fact that he was rather close with the Director of the organization.
Maxwell put the matter aside. He then went over some basic rules that were the standard protocol of the organization.
"I expect each and every one of you to follow these rules. You can go over them again later in your quarters on your comms." He told the four recruits.
"Comms?" Robin asked.
"These." Maxwell tapped the comm on his wrist, and a section of the table before them slid open. A small platform was raised up, and on it rested four black bracelets that were made of a strange substance that none of them knew. "Put them on, and they will be bound to you, and only you. Until they are damaged, which is quite unlikely, or they are reclaimed by the organization."
The four recruits reached out and picked up a wrist comm each. When they fastened it around their bare wrists, the comms suddenly tightened, before smoothly fitting itself around their wrists.
"These comma have a map of the entire base. The parts that are open to you, at least. They will lead you to your living quarters. You four will be roommates. See you all tomorrow." Maxwell gave them some final words before sending them off.
The four boys walked in the same direction in silence for some moments before Elijah spoke up.
"Um, nice to meet you guys, I guess. I hope we can get along." The young man said with a smile on his face as he scratched the back of his neck. He was trying to initiate conversation in order to lighten the atmosphere.
Coincidentally, none of the four boys that Maxwell had picked were particularly rowdy or big on talking, but they all knew how to relate with their peers.
"I hope we can get along." The others made similar statements as they made their way to their shared living quarters.
There was not too much to talk about at the moment, as they had only just met each other. Even though two of them were from the same cities, they did not know each other beforehand, so there was not much to talk about yet.
Connor and Robin both came from Gold City, while Rowan and Elijah were from Willow City.
After some time of walking, and coming across some other recruits and their Baron supervisors, the boys finally reached their living quarters.
Rowan had not seen hide nor hair of the three acquaintances that he had made on the way to the organization, but he did not mind all that much. They had not spent too much time together, so there was not too much attachment that he felt towards them.
Upon stepping into their living quarters, the first thing that they noted was that their quarters were not as luxurious as those that had been provided for them on the aircraft. Everything was put in a single space, but there was still a lot of free space left.
There were four double beds in each corner of the room, with a small table at the heads of the beds. The tables were enough for anyone to handle some simple business on them. The walls that the beds were pressed against each had a closet where they could keep their belongings that they had arrived with inside. They noted that whatever they had brought with them was already in the closets.
There was a door that led to the bathroom deeper into the room, and it had been kept aside from the main part of the room, down a corridor that held only that part of the room.
"Wow, this is pretty neat." Robin whistled as he took a seat on the bed he had chosen for himself. The other boys nodded.
As they got themselves settled in, Rowan's comm suddenly beeped and a white light started flashing on a single spot from it.
"Huh?"
I think you're supposed to answer it." Connor noticed what was happening and came over, drawing the attention of the other boys. They soon gathered around to see what the fuss was.
Rowan did as he said, and a projection suddenly popped up above the comm. The projection showed a middle aged man with a burly figure, and stern look to him. A long scar ran from the top of his right eyebrow to right underneath his left eye.
