Flashes

The next two weeks passed in flashes.

Both literally and figuratively.

During these two weeks I'd been seeing more flashes of memories with the baby and my father but I still didn't understand.

During these two weeks Cally and D.F also got their powers during our trainings.

Cally's power was super speed which she got while we were running away from some wild beasts in the TARANA.

While D.F's power is telekinesis which she got when we were trapped in a cave during one of our outdoor training.

I don't know why I'm the last to get my powers but I hope I get them soon.

Also during these last two weeks I've felt like the girls are keeping something from me.

Even on Earth we never kept things from each other but I know they'll tell me when the time is right.

The girls have also gotten really good with their weapons.

They are such fast learners and I'm proud of what they've achieved so far.

Hailey even learnt to fly with her bow staff while we were training.

In two days there's to be a party to celebrate the upcoming new year and right now I was on my way to see Penelope.

I need to talk to her about my powers.

She was in the garden outside (classic hippie) when I saw her.

"Hey Penelope can I talk to you" I said. She was sitting on the ground with her legs crossed in a meditating position and I didn't think she took note of my arrival until she said "move two steps backwards"

I didn't argue and did as she instructed.

Just then a large bird passed and pooped in the exact spot I had been standing.

"Oh that was close" I said surprised.

She suddenly stood up and started walking back in and I walked next to her and continued "you see I'm just curious as to why the rest of the girls have gotten there powers and not me.

She stopped in her tracks and faced me "it's you" she said and kept walking.

"Excuse me what does that mean?" I was genuinely confused now.

She stopped again and let out a big sigh "Jewel, look it's you okay? You're the reason you don't have your powers yet"

"I still don't follow" I said with my hands on my hips.

"When the girls got their powers it was under extreme duress and an obligation to help." She said "they were feeling intense emotions like fear and it was obvious and so their powers surfaced to help them deal with it"

I was slowly starting to understand.

"But as for you" she sighed again and put a hand on my shoulder "you've spent so many years bottling up your emotions that you have no Idea how to truly let it out"

"So what are you saying, if I don't feel something intense I won't get my powers" I said. This lady is obviously nuts but she does have a point.

"The day you can truly learn to pour out all the pain and hate and anger you have buried inside you is the day you true powers will arise" and with that she walked away leaving me to ponder her words.

It's been two hours since my talk with Penelope and right now I was catching up on the big bang theory to get my mind of things.

There was a knock and before I could ask who it is D.F walked in holding some clothes or should I say floating it.

Ever since she got her powers she has deemed her hands useless and now only uses her mind to lift stuff.

She laid the dresses carefully on the bed and said "hey"

I just grunted in response.

"I still can't believe we've been here three months" she smiled sadly and I knew she was missing Earth, so to get her mind of it I said "what are the dresses for?"

"The new year party with the entire town silly" she said giggling.

"So what are they doing in my room then" I asked again.

"Well where else would you try them on" she said as if I just asked the world's dumbest question.

"And who said anything about wearing a dress to some stupid party" I stuffed my mouth full of grapes before I said "and besides I'm not going to the party"

"And why not?" She said folding her arms before I could say anything she help her finger telling me not to say anything "and before you say anything, the queen has made it mandatory for everyone to attend"

"Well that's to bad cause I'm not going" I also folded my arms "she's not the queen of me"

"Technically she is, seeing as you live on her planet and all" she said.

"Whatever, I'm still not going" I said like a sulking child avoiding D.F's eyes.

She sat on the sofa next to me now taking her time to explain to me.

"Fine if you don't want to wear a dress you can wear a jumpsuit or something but please just come to the party if not for me do it for the people who might be in danger if the tenebrans attack"

I hadn't thought of it like that.

Damn her for making me see reason.

She obviously noticed that she had gotten to me because she started smiling widely.

"Don't start smiling yet" she pouted again "I won't wear a dress but only a black jumpsuit okay?"

She was nodding furiously.

"And I won't join the party I'll just stay at a corner and watch over the party okay?"

She pouted at this but again agreed "you won't regret this" she said standing up picking up the dresses with her hands this time "I will get started on your jumpsuit now?"

And with that she left.

I fell asleep a while later.

"Hey" jinny said.

"Hey" I replied. This time I wasn't outside with burning buildings. I was in a castle which was really quiet "why are we here?"

"You'll see" was all she said.

Just then a woman burst in holding a baby but it wasn't me.

This was the baby who had haunted me in my dreams.

"Who is she?" I asked but jinny remained quiet.

The woman looked very familiar but I couldn't place a finger on it.

The woman was crying as she ordered a guard "FIND HIM!" She yelled "they mustn't escape, bring the girl to me"

The guards scurried away.

"Only my baby can be the next queen"

With that the scene faded away and I was left alone with jinny.

"Who was that?" I asked jinny and this time she said "all will be clear soon"

And she also vanished "JINNY!!!"

I yelled out from my sleep and shot upwards.

I know that castle it was the same one I was taken to when I was captured by tenebras.

Now I know where I recognized the woman from.

She's the queen of tenebras the memory of when I was in tenebras came back to me.

I was chained to the walls and I hadn't taken a bath in weeks.

The guards fed me mouldy bread and whipped me asking me what our plans were to attack them.

I knew the guards would be back soon so I didn't look up when the door to my cell opened but this time it was a woman’s voice I heard "look at me child"

Her voice commanded authority so I did as she said.

She was stunning with her brown skin and short black hair and a crown that fit her head perfectly and suddenly I couldn't stop staring "the guards said you've been really resistant" she moved closer and sized me up "you're really strong for someone your age so how about I strike you a deal"

She stopped then stepped back "you work for me as a spy and I'll pay you handsomely"

"And if I don't" was all I said

"I believe you're smarter than that" she gave a wicked smile.

"Do to me what ever you want but I will never help you!" I shouted the last Part and I was feeling such intense anger that it was like I lost control over myself.

I was fuming as I stared at her and it seemed like my eyes had lost there white color and was now only black.

She stared at me like she had seen a ghost and something like recognition flashed across her face.

She ran out of the room and I collapsed.

When I woke up I was back on lucem.

They said they had found me in the middle of the town passed out.

I still don't know what she saw that got her so scared that she dumped me back on lucem.

I decided not to go back to sleep and I kept watching TV until I grew bored and decided to check what the girls were doing.

When I got to their room door I heard them talking so I listened for a while.

I know I shouldn't eavesdrop but I really wanted to know what they were hiding from me.

"I still think we should tell her" came D.F's voice.

"We need to understand what's happening first" rebby said.

"But we could be wrong about this" D.F said.

"But what if we're right" rebby said again.

"Let's not jump to conclusions here okay" Cally spoke up this time "we've known her for so long now we should at least trust her"

Hailey finally said "we don't know what it means let's just wait"

They were all silent again.

I knew that they were talking about me but I wondered what it is.

I decided not to knock and I retreated to my room I stopped briefly at David and etim's room before I knocked and let myself in.

David was playing video games and etim was asleep on his bed.

"Hey" he took off his headset to face me.

I'm guessing he's really surprised seeing as I never come to his room.

"Hey" I replied as I sat awkwardly on the edge of his bed.

"What's up" he sat next to me on the bed.

No use beating around the bush "I think the girls are keeping something from me I just overheard them arguing about wether or not to tell me something"

"What is it?" He asked.

I rolled my eyes at his question "if I knew what it is I wouldn't be here talking to you now would I?"

"Okay so what do you want me to do" he ran his hands through his thick black hair and I wondered what it felt like.

I shook the thought out of my head.

"I want you to find out what their hiding" I said in a breath.

"And why do you think they'll tell me if they don't tell you?" He said folding his arms.

He had a point and I was quiet for a while thinking about a plan as I looked around the room I noticed dodo in his charging spot.

So this is where he's been.

I had an idea "they'll tell you if they think you've already gotten them" I was facing him again "just tell them that you over head their discussion and then ask what it's about, they wouldn't be able to deny"

He was deep in thought for a while before he said "Don't you think they have a good reason for not telling you" he was holding my hands now and I felt uncomfortable.

"I have to know" it probably has something to do with my dreams.

He sighed but he agreed but said "I trust in your judgement"

That's the David I've always known.

So trusting.

I hope he never changes.

I told him to put the plan in motion on the new year's party and then I left.
