"All units respond. Central region, lower east Sprig. A gunshot was heard at..."
Tone down the radio, Agnes sips his white wine as he looks at the view of the night city skyline. The million lights that brighten the city look like the billion stars that shine in the night sky from above. Beautiful as it is captivating, Agnes still felt nothing. The view that fascinates million is only a daily scene to him.
How many people dream of seeing the world from up above? Probably most of them. Yet for him, who saw it every day, there was nothing magical about it already. This scenery that yearns by others is simply nothing to him anymore. Why is there nothing that excites him anymore?
Place down the glass of wine and pick himself some snacks prepared by Veronica; he glances at his watch. 12.30 in the evening, he would probably arrive at his residence at 12.55 p.m. if there was no accident along the way.
*Swoosh*
The private jet slowly landed at a mountain foot. After a couple turns, the pilot docks the aircraft at its designated place. Calmly exiting the plane, Agnes was greeted by an old man and a group of people holding riffles in each of their hands.
Slick grey hair that perfectly combs backward, a well-trim beard, and drape in a modern black and white butler outfit, he is Sebas, his house butler. As for the group of people that look like soldiers, they are his palace security guards.
"Welcome back, master, Miss Vera. I have prepared the bath for you, and dinner has also been set. Is there anything this old man can do for you, master?"
"No. Just get us home."
"Immediately, master."
Submerged himself into the hot tub filled with warm water, Agnes let out a slight growl. The feeling when the warm water touched his cold body was indeed satisfying. But no matter how good it is, his heart is still colds.
Done cleaning himself, Agnes put on his midnight pajamas. Combing his hair and wears some cologne, he looks at himself in the mirror. Silky black hair with a stream of white, straight nose, healthy pink lips, strong jaw, and deep golden amber pupils. He indeed looks like someone who just graduated from university. And the funny thing is that he did not even finish high school.
He is twenty-six this year, and is already bored with his life. For other people, this is their prime, as this is the time to experience the new world, the unknown. But for him, he already knew this world the moment he was born. The moment he opened his eyes and saw the first light of this world.
His first drink was when he was seven, his first kill was when he was ten, and his first time was when he was only twelve. He had done a lot of sinful acts when he was still an underage. As for now, killing is like stepping on ants. No remorse nor guilt ever once form in his heart now. As how days begin and night ends, it's as natural as it is.
Calmly descend of the stair, Agnes walks toward the dining area. Not surprised a slight that the whole table was full of delicacy, he merely glanced at it and took a seat at the master side.
People say it is not good to eat at midnight, but when else can he eat? He is almost busy for an entire day, as this is the only time he is free. One never knows when there something unexpected will happen, like today. No matter how much one plans, God is the greatest planner.
"Care to join me?" Asks him as he looks at the servants and security guards.
"With pleasure." Replied all of them.
As this is a common occurrence, that their master invited them to eat together with him, they did not become confused. He may be a cold heart killer without remorse and a businessman without any heart, but to them, he is their savior.
Most people that work under him in this palace are mainly slumling. Some are born without parents, and some are outcasted from society. While they know why he rescues them, they still regard him as their master.
As he never treats them like a slave and provides them with a warm place to sleep, food to eat, cloth to wear, and a job with income, they are already satisfied enough. It is a hundred times better than living in the darkness of slums, where they are being treated worse than dogs.
Look at the twenty-five maids and eight guards takes a seat on the dining table; Agnes pulls out his hands and bows his head. Veronica, who sits by Agnes's side, seeing this, grabs his rough hands and also bows her head downward.
The maids and the guards seeing this, also follow along. The only one who did not sit at the dining table is the house butler, Sebas. Only he remains standing behind Agnes. Eyes as sharp as hawks, no matter in what situation, his vigilance never once cast down.
"Celestial Father, beacon in the dark, bless us. Bless our food and our drink. Clear our soul of darkness, as we won't fail you again. Glorious Father. As you gave us a share in this food, so may you give us a share in eternal life. Lagrze."
"Lagrze."
As the prayer ended, the dining table fulls of delicacy slowly and surely lessened. As the clock tick by, as Seconds became minutes, the food finally finished after half an hour.
Sip the wine as the maids clean the table, Agnes glances outside the window. The contrast between the dazzling town on the right across the river. And the quiet wilderness on the left beyond the mountain is indeed breathtaking. If someone asks him to choose between the two, he probably chooses the left. Unknown what. But the quiet wilderness attracts him more than the bustling town.
Stood up and walked toward the window; he watched the covered snow wilderness with his back against the town.
*Swoosh.*
"Hmm, a shooting star?"
