Deep Impression

In her sleep, Katie's eyebrows intertwined in trying to hear the boy's voice when he mentioned his name. But the results were in vain because someone shook her body and woke her from sleep.

"Kitty sweety bitty, you better go home now." Nerissa, Katie's manager, and a good friend woke her gently. "Use your leave thoroughly so that our director doesn't get angry anymore. Get it?"

Katie smiled in agreement. Today was the recording schedule for her latest album. But only because of one phone call from Anna asking Cathy's whereabouts she could not concentrate on the recording.

Yup, that's correct. She managed to become a professional jazz singer. Many entertainment companies wanted to sign a contract with her and made her appeared on variety shows as a guest star. She could sing to her heart's content without fearing that animals will follow her because she is not the 'Red Queen' anymore.

Previously, Katie often held concert tours throughout the country, increasing their family finances. She could even buy a second-rate apartment herself and buy a new home for her parents in Iowa. The apartment was not luxurious or large. The apartment was quite small but comfortable to live in.

Although she hoped her parents would live with her in New York, she still did not force them to move. Both of them always preferred to stay in Iowa until their retirement later. Because of this, Katie respected their decision and bought a more comfortable house and hired helpers for her parents.

Until, at one point, she began to feel a bit far from her parents, she decided to stop. She no longer wanted to perform at concerts throughout the country. She only wanted to appear in New York to meet her parents and beloved friends more frequently.

Unfortunately, when she decided to reduce her schedule, Cathy, her best friend, often stargazed and looked sad. She wanted to do something to return the joy and smile to Cathy. But she realized the only one who could restore it all was that man.

Moreover, this morning she got a call from Anna asking Cathy whereabouts. Anna told her nothing, but Katie was suspicious that her friend might be missing.

Her suspicions intensified when she asked Steve, Mercy, and others who were also contacted by Anna.

Katie also tried to contact Cathy's cellphone, which turned out to be inactive. This made her worried and agitated throughout the recording to make the director angry.

How does she not feel worried? Cathy is a responsible girl and never let her family members worry about her. And now all of a sudden she left without telling anyone? That was so not Cathy.

In the end, the director gave Katie a one-week leave considering she was not in good health, even though she wanted to finish this recording.

Nevertheless, Katie agreed, praying that Cathy would return quickly, and nothing happened to her best friend.

Katie's cellphone vibrated to indicate an incoming message. After reading it, Katie stood up.

"Where are you going?" Nerissa asked in confusion.

"I want to go home. Didn't you tell me to go home just now?"

"It's true. I'll drop you off, but after I take care of these items."

Katie smiled as she answered, "No need. Aiden has come to pick me up."

"Ah .." Nerissa chuckled while winking. "So when will you officially introduce your lover."

"Huh? Aiden is just a friend. Nothing more than that. Besides, I don't have any special feelings for him."

"Poor Aiden." sighed Nerissa. "He likes you, don't you know? Is there a man who would bother to pick you up, accompany you shopping, and always come to your concert if he doesn't have any special feelings?"

Katie blinked a few times and asked innocently. "You mean, he likes me?"

Again Nerissa sighed excessively. "Kitty sweety bitty, only blind people couldn't see the love of his eyes."

"But I..."

"Are you still thinking about the little boy?"

"..." Kitty couldn't argue with that. She had told about the red-haired boy who sometimes still appeared in her dreams to her manager. Strange enough, she never told Cathy about the boy. She wondered why.

"I don't understand at all. Even though you only met a few times, why do you still think about him?"

Katie herself didn't know the answer either. They only met a few times. And the boy has broken his promise twice. First, the boy did not come on her eighth birthday and bring her ice cream. The second one, the boy, did not appear at Trinity school as they had promised.

You could say that child is a jerk. Katie should have forgotten him and hated him. But why did it felt the other way around? It seemed the boy left a deep impression in her heart, and she did not know the reason. She couldn't even hate the boy.

Strangely, every time she felt emotions when she was still the 'Red Queen,' her feelings subsided right away as soon as she remembered the child.
