Secret Spot(3)

"Okay, maybe it's time for a new agenda." John stops them. "Ian, would you like to tell him how we met?" John says.

"If he wants to know." Ian shrugs.

Dan turns to Ian. "Yeah, please tell me." He's excited for it.

Ian sighs, "Okay." and talks slowly. He tells Dan that John moved to Victoria nine years ago and opened the restaurant one year after that. Leo was the first customer who walked in on the first day. The poor man had a tough day in a ballgame and wanted to find a place to relax, and destiny took him to John's place. John saw the young player who was going through a rough time, then he brought him a free beer and helped him get over the day. It was how they met, and since both of them loved baseball, they became friends soon. A couple months later, they met Ian; he was in Victoria with his girlfriend for the weekend. They walked in the restaurant and had dinner. John and Leo were there at the same time and surprised to see Ian because they had never thought they would see him in Victoria. At that time, Ian was already the ace pitcher of the Fighters and very famous in Victoria and Baku. Before it, Leo only had a few words with Ian during a game in Baku, but he didn't stay there for long. He was sent back to Victoria right away after the game. However, Ian still remembered him and invited him to their table to join him and his girlfriend when he saw him. It was the beginning of the friendship of Ian, Leo and John. Ian even invited them to his wedding years later; the bride was the same girl they saw in the restaurant on the day they met.

As Ian tells the story, more people walk in the restaurant. John needs to stop talking to them and serve other customers. When he walks away, Dan starts enjoying his food, so do Ian and Leo.

"Do you play any other sport?" Leo asks Dan, in the middle of the meal.

"Me?"

"Yep." Leo nods.

"I used to play football."

"Which one? American? Or English?"

"American football. I played quarterback."

"Fantastic!!!" Leo laughs. Ian also turns to Dan.

"Sounds like you were born to be an athlete," says Ian, "It takes a big amount of effort to be a QB, doesn't it?"

"Uh," Dan shrugs, "I worked hard."

"You played baseball and football in high school?" asks Leo.

"Yes."

"Awesome. Were you good?"

Dan takes a breath, "Not bad. I got a scholarship for playing football in college, but I turned it down. Baseball was my true love."

"That's really nice." says Leo, "You know, I have a cousin who plays football as well, but he plays Canadian football."

"Canadian football? What's that?" asks Dan.

"Something similar to American football." says Leo.

"Is that a thing?"

"It is a real thing. There's a sport called Canadian football, similar to American football and the rules are slightly different." says Leo, "It actually has a longer history than American football, but somehow the American style got more popular."

"Seriously? I didn't know that." says Dan.

"It's real." says Ian, "They have a league called Canadian Football League in Canada. It's a real thing for pro football athletes."

"Ok." Dan nods.

"Hold on." Ian turns to Leo, "Are we talking about Henry?"

"Yeah." says Leo.

"I thought he was Jacksonville, playing for the Jaguars."

"Oh. He moved to Edmonton last year, to play in the CFL."

"That was new to me." Ian says.
