Know Her Better

Dion paused. He looked at her as if he had heard it wrong. Surely she could not ask him to love her. Could she?

But when she looked away as if he had hurt her, he felt ludicrous.

"Abigail, our conditions have been different. We are not lovers getting married." He sighed, signaling her that she was being unreasonable. And she was! She knew more than anyone else.

He was offering her treasure, power and position. She should already be glad for having similar looks and duke. But here she was acting like a noble lady who wanted everything in her life. Love is not something she would have gotten if she would have married any men in the grothem town.

She should already end her charade as if she was a woman worth loving. But before she could tell him that she was just being sentimental and he did not need to worry about it, he beat her to it.

"But if you want, we can try." she opened her mouth, closed it only to open it again. But words failed her.
