Chapter:56 Mayumi Wins!

"3.....2...1...Begin!"

As soon as the buzzer rang, both Mayumi and Rin raised their respective weapon in front of them, aiming down the Sight, finger on the trigger.

The projector immediately launched 10-disks in the air for each participant, the distance between the disk and the participants was quite big.

Systematic-type magic was placed in the sky, controlling the flow of the air within a certain area, the chances of successfully hitting the target were not much, especially considering that the disk was moving in an irregular motion.

Both Mayumi and Rin pulled the trigger, the click was accompanied by the sound of a disk breaking, both of them had no plans on stopping whatsoever, they immediately flicked towards the next target, closest to their crosshair.

This was enough to prove their capabilities and talent in [Speed-Shooting], the remaining 3-disks for each participant suddenly accelerated into the sky, signifying that the final battle was finally upon them.

It wasn't easy to hit such fast-moving targets, especially since they were moving in an erratic pattern and had only 2-surface to target.

Both Mayumi and Rin missed a few of their shots, trying to break the last three disks.

(Meanwhile)

"The level of Event has increased quite a bit when compared to previous years, even specialized veteran snipers would find it hard to hit such targets..."

A fairly old man could be seen standing near the glass inside the V.I.P box, watching the event with great interest. He wore a black suit and pant with a blue tie.

Saburou is an old gentleman well into his fifties. He was someone who gives off the impression — not of a bodyguard, but rather that of a butler, and even more of a grandfather than a butler.

His spine, straight as a pin, his body thin but firm; the fact that he is definitely in 'active duty' is clearly understood from one glance.

Saburou does not carry himself in any special stance, but there seems to be polished politeness to him like he had an experience of military service, moreover it is a long service in various areas.

The fact that he is used to wearing a uniform underneath his suit, seeps through his stance.

Saburou is known to be polite and courteous to other people and is loyal to the Saegusa Family.

However, Saburou's loyalty to the Saegusa Family holds a business-like aspect. He can be described as a paid mercenary and doesn't think of himself as a member of the Saegusa Family.

He was watching the eldest daughter of the Saegusa Family compete in the biggest high school event.

"That is indeed true but I am relatively sure of Mayumi's victory..."

Another voice resounded throughout the V.I.P box, this time the voice belonged to a middle-aged man.

A relatively skinny and gentle-looking individual could be seen sitting on the table. Saegusa Kouichi was secretly attending the [Nine-School Competition], to watch his oldest daughter's performance.

"She seems to be more motivated and determined to win the event that she would normally be, Mayumi has been competitive since birth but for this specific event, she seems to be very focused..."

"But that can be due to many reasons, Young miss will try to run for the president next year, her performance could help build her prestige which will increase her chances of winning or maybe she wants Nine-School to win the trophy, not to mention the fact that Newcomer's division has more weightage....."

"[Nine-School Competition] is the most prestigious event for magicians in high school, maybe she wants to showcase her skills as a member of the Saegusa Clan?"

"You are indeed right, there are many possibilities but I don't think Mayumi cares about any of these things, call it fatherly instinct..."

Mayumi and Rin were both very close to winning and beating the other, only two more projectiles were still in the air.

Mayumi's crosshair had locked onto one of the two disks in the air but she wasn't pulling the trigger to destroy it. Everyone was very nervous as to what was going to happen.

"Oh my god! Rin has just destroyed another one of the disks, she is one trigger away from victory! She is going to win! The Third-High School is going to—...."

𝔹𝕝𝕒𝕣𝕖! (Blare!)

The buzzer ran off indicating the end of the [Speed-Shooting] event. The whole crowd was dumbfounded by what had just happened, even Rin who was a second away from claiming the victory was shocked at the turn of events.

Mayumi had destroyed both of her disks with a single shot. The reason she didn't pull the trigger immediately after locking onto the target was that the two disks were on a coinciding course.

She patiently waited for the right time to fire and destroy the two disks in one shot and she successfully did so, people thought that she wouldn't be able to win after she lost the lead yet she simply outplayed everyone and claimed the first place.

"Well, Saegusa Mayumi of the [First-High School] has defeated Rin of the [Third-High School] and has claimed victory!..... "

"Yaa!!...."

The whole crowd burst into cheers after hearing the announcement about Mayumi's victory.

"First-High!...."

"First-High!...."

Mayumi lowered her C.A.D and took in a deep breath, she had just one the [Speed-Shooting] event and that too in the newcomer's division, meaning that she had just earned a lot of points for her school.

'I did it!.....'

'I did it, Erik!.....'
