Zane felt a suffocation in his chest that became hard to bear, his heart ached badly.

He had been preparing for this pain but when it came, it was sharper than he expected. It was like being pierced with a shapeless dagger.

He used his thumb to scratch his index finger and a small smile appeared on his face, "Kalli, I am hurt by your words."

Kalli looked at him and the pained smile on his face hurt her, making her feel even more guilty. She would rather if he was angry or indifferent, "I am sorry. I am just a little scared. I should not have said that, I am sorry."

"No, it is good that you did. Better than keeping it in your heart." He lowered his voice, "I would never hurt you, Kalli, you, or Cassandra, and even though Ren can be a piece of shit at times…"

Kalli chuckled.
