CHAPTER 4

As soon as Kael enters the confined glass, he feels someone dropping a weight on him, rendering his body unable to move freely and can only move sluggishly. His breath hitched as if oxygen was gradually dissipating. With each heavy step, Kael slowly moved towards the central part and stood motionlessly, hoping his body could withstand the pressure for at least 1 minute, enough to achieve title Tier 9.

Directing his mind in one place, firmly clenching his fists, gnawing his teeth, all of those steps were done by Kael in order for him to remain conscious under this type of test.

'This is crazy' Kael thought to himself. Just 20 seconds have been unbearable, what about the tier 0 where the pressure is a hundred folds higher? He honestly can't imagine what kind of Divergent who can withstand the pressure of Tier 0.

Glancing at the screen, Kael noticed that 1 minute and 2 seconds have passed.

Without any hesitation, Kael starts to leave the confined glass steadily, which earned a surprised gasp from John Kenny as he didn't expect Kael to walk away like that. From his observation, Kael's condition hasn't yet reached the worse point as in Aby's case, the latter almost collapsed. Hence, he didn't understand Kael's purpose in quitting the test midway.

With puzzlement over his face, John Cenny declared, "Kael Lys, 1 minute and 2 seconds, Tier 9 Endurance."

Trying to catch his breath, Kael supported his body weight by placing his palms on his knees. Slightly lowering his body, Kael hears John Cenny ask him, "Why didn't you try to stay longer?"

Before Kael opened his mouth, Karen chuckles mockingly while covering her mouth, "Of course, because he wasn't strong enough, teacher."

Rolling his eyes inwardly at her, Kael ignored her and went to answer John's Cenny question, "I couldn't see any chance for me to break through over the one-minute duration. Hence, it was pointless for me to continue the test further. Might as well preserve my stamina for the next test."

Hearing his explanation, John Cenny nodded his head in agreement, "Your analysis is logical. But sometimes a human's capability can surpass even logic. Do you understand my point?"

Contemplating for a moment, Kael nodded his head understandingly at John's Cenny statement seconds later. He once read a story about a mother whose head collided with a car's bumper, but still managed to make her way to her daughter who also crashed. Logically speaking, she should be lying in the pool of blood and fainted. But in her case, drowned in many complicated emotions and determination, she surpasses her body's limit and destroys the so-called logic. The humans couldn't even imagine that in the future, they would come up to fight against monsters and possess extraordinary power.

Turning to all the students, John Cenny said, "Alright, for the last test, it's called "Agility"."

John Cenny once again led them into another confined glass, but this time it has a slightly larger space and has a ball-like object scattered around the floor messily.

Having no idea about what those balls' purpose is, Kael immediately went to ask, "What're those balls doing there?"

With a mysterious smirk, John Cenny answered, "You'll see later. Alright, who wants to enter first?"

Seeing that no one wants to take his offer and everyone seems to want to recover their stamina at its best, John Cenny walks to his desk and grabs a piece of paper then starts to tear off the paper and divides it into five pieces with each has a different number written over on each paper.

"Everybody, take one piece of paper," John Cenny ordered while opening his hand to show the five papers into Kael and the group's direction.

'Give me number five, give me number five, please.' Kael repeatedly prayed inwardly and proceeded to take one of the five papers from John Cenny's hand.

Turning the paper around, his eyes widened as he saw the number five written over the paper. Grinning widely, Kael was about to cheer when John Cenny's voice reached into his ears, "The order would start backwards, which means, the one who draws the number five goes inside first."

"Nani??" Kael burst out in shock. Just as he thought his luck was good, he gets tricked by his examiner.

"What? You want to complain?" John Cenny narrowed his eyes dangerously.

Chuckling nervously, Kael replied stutteringly, "N-no."

"Good, then go ahead."

Realizing that he had no other choice, Kael gnashed his teeth and reluctantly entered the room, while being accompanied by Karen's gloating laugh.

Unlike the Endurance Test, this time, Kael didn't immediately receive any offensive actions and was permitted to perceive his surroundings.

Glimpsing at the screen inside, Kael read the Tiers List.

Tier 10: 10 Seconds

Tier 9: 30 Seconds

Tier 8: 1 Minute

Tier 7: 1 Minute 30 seconds

Tier 6: 2 Minutes 25 seconds

Tier 5: 3 Minutes

Tier 4: 3 Minutes and 50 seconds

Tier 3: 5 Minutes

Tier 2: 10 Minutes

Tier 1: 20 Minutes

Tier 0: 60 Minutes

[Avoid the incoming shots. If the indicators show your health has been reduced to a critical point, the test will automatically be over.]

[You can also quit the test anytime to want by saying "Concede" loudly.]

[Every ten seconds, the number of balls will increase by 1.]

Just as he finished reading the description, Kael watches the once motionless balls seem to be switched on. With a green light shining in both the two balls' central part, both balls start to float and launch laser projectiles in Kael's direction.

Seeing that Kael Instantly lowered his body, thus he managed to evade the projectiles by a narrow margin. Regaining his stance, Kael then sees another laser being shot at him.

"Cmon, give me a break." Kael cried out in frustration seeing that he was left with no time to catch a breath.

Kael's ability was not related slightest to agility. Consequently, Kael was placed in a disadvantageous position throughout the test period. He can only rely on his normal physical body to dodge so he's with no choice but to jump back and forth like a monkey. Things began to get worse when 10 seconds passed. Another ball came to life and rejoined the other two balls to attack him. This makes Kael suffer more headaches as he didn't have the capability to deal with three balls. In the end, Kael can only hold on for no more than 40 seconds under their bullying.

"Kael Lys, 40 Seconds, Tier 9 Agility." John Cenny declared and paused before resuming with another statement, "Overall result, Tier 9. From now on, you'll be a newly appointed legal Tier 9 student at Bintang Academy."
