Looking starkly at the insignia that had a star carved on it, Kael pressed a button in the central lower part of the badge. Instantly, a hologram contains his status popped out.
[Name: Kael Lys]
[First-Year Student]
[Age: 17]
[Rank: Tier 9]
[Credit Points: 1000]
'So, this is how it works.' Kael thought to himself before shifting his gaze awkwardly at the nurse who's currently staring at him amusedly.
"I retract my statement back. Today is not your lucky day." The nurse said while making a gesture of demanding something with her hand, "Give me your badge."
Widening his eyes, Kael racked his brain to prevent the nurse from extracting his points. Although he didn't know much about how the points work. He's pretty sure credit points are no less important than real money. Suddenly, an idea surfaced in his mind.
Giving the nurse a sorrowful smile, Kael stretched out his hand that was holding the badge and mumbled in a low voice, but audible enough for everyone to hear, "I never thought I'd cause a ruckus in my first day at the academy. What would my parents think of me? I'm really ashamed of my behaviour."
He then brushed off his thumbs across the corner of his eyes and silently cast water magic to create fake tears.
Watching how dejected Kael's current condition is. The nurse's hand halted in the air.
Thinking that he succeeded in tricking her, Kael about to continue his acting when a slap landed on his head, causing a yelp to leave from his mouth, "Ouch!"
"Do you take me as a novice nurse? I've been working as a nurse for dozens of years, and have met countless students like you. Did you really think that little trick of yours would escape from my eyes?" The nurse glared sharply and snatched Kael's badge, the moment his focus wavered.
Realizing that his badge was ripped off, Kael can only look at the nurse helpless
"Relax, it's just a curtain. It won't cost too much." The nurse assured him and secured his badge into her pocket.
She then asked him several questions regarding his health and whatnot. During this period, Maya is already gone after concluding that her duty is fulfilled. Kael also didn't forget to thank her and promised her that he'd treat her to a meal later. Though, she was reluctant to accept his offer. She eventually surrendered after being repeatedly pestered by Kael and gave him her phone number at the end.
"You plan to ask her for a date?" The nurse said with raised eyebrows.
"Huh? We just met today." Although Kael finds Maya's features quite attractive, he never considers her as his crush, considering how this is the first time they met.
"You said the same thing as her. Anyway, even some people could have sex on their first meeting nowadays." The nurse blurted out without filtering her words.
"What the heck? Are you really a nurse? How can you blatantly say something like that?" Kael eyed the nurse's appearance, trying to find a trace of whether she was an impostor or not.
Noticing Kael's action, she rolled her eyes and ordered, "Follow me. I need to deduct your points before I give you the permission to exit the infirmary."
Exhaling a deep breath, Kael follows the nurse obediently.
Exiting the ward he resides in, Kael subconsciously sucked a cold breath after seeing how vast the infirmary is. Contrary to his high school's infirmary, there are several wards for patients to rest along the corridor. It makes him flabbergasted at how grand Bintang Academy's infirmary is.
Throughout their journey, the nurse briefly elaborated on all that was relevant to the Bintang Academy.
The points she keeps mentioning were actually referring to credit points that each student gets on a monthly basis. Like money, the credit points were used as a transactional tool inside the academy. They can be used to buy clothes, food, treating injury, pills, and even equipment.
The monthly allowance that every student receives is 1000 credit points. That amount was more than enough to fill your stomach with ordinary food for a month. However, it was obvious that students had other necessities which is why the school provides many tasks with varying rewards.
Before they knew it, they finally arrived at the counter where you could see other nurses immersed in their work.
"Stand right here." The nurse gave instructions and went straight to the employee's area. Upon reaching the computer, she pulled out Kael's badge and plunged it directly into a scanner-like device. Immediately, a light shone from the center of his insignia and gradually formed into a hologram.
Kael watches as she typed something on the keyboard before hearing her speak, "Please press "Accept" to agree to the aforementioned condition."
Kael lifted his head and scanned the information briskly. In summary, he was charged 50 credit points for damaging an academy's property. Without further ado, he pressed his finger upon the accept option and his credit points 50 points were reduced instantly.
"Thank you for the amicable cooperation." The nurse grinned widely.
Suppressing an urge to roll his eyes, Kael took his badge back and muttered under his breath, "Stingy academy."
"Pardon?"
"Nothing.
Just talking to myself."
...
Earlier, when he received his badge, he was also informed by the man that his belongings had already been shifted to his dormitory room. That's why he's not in a hurry to head for his room.
Wandering around aimlessly, Kael was brought into dumbstruck numerous times due to the view he saw. Instead of finding the usual school scenery, you can say that it looks more like a small city.
Although his father was directly involved in constructing these buildings, Kael never inquired about the academy mainly because of his disinterest. Now, he really regrets his decision back then. He now looks like a lost country bumpkin.
As he passes by some restaurants and cafes, he realizes that all their employees look young and perhaps at the same age as him. The realization quickly dawned over him, Kael foot unconsciously walked to the nearby cafe and entered it.
"Welcome." A cheery voice belonging to a young woman, greeted him as soon as he entered.
Giving her a polite smile, Kael asked the woman courteously, "Hello. I'm a freshman here. May I chat with you to gain some information?"
The woman seemed hesitant for a moment before darting her eyes over the insides and noticed all her clients had already been served. With a slow nod, the woman replied, "Sure. But I can't be absent for a long time."
"Thank you, a few minutes should be sufficient,"
