5 Chapter 5: Quirk Apprehension Test

(Okay, I'm seriously torn on what to choose for his hero outfit. I liked some of the suggestions from the last chapter, but I'm not sure. So, for this chapter, I'm going to use one that I've chosen, and if you guys don't like it, just tell me.

I'll be using Zhongli's outfit, from Genshin Impact, for this chapter. This is what I'm using for the experimental outfit. If you guys like it, then tell me, and I'll keep using it.)

A week ago, when I got my letter of acceptance for UA, I shortly after got a letter from UA's Support Department telling me to sketch up my hero costume.

It has been a while since I've done art of any kind. I used to do it quite a lot, and I was rather good at it. I just stopped doing it to make way for more training and practice. Hopefully I retained my skill.

I want something light, flexible and durable. So, I got my art supplies, got some paper, and got to work.

-One hour later-

And that's that done.

And so, I sent the sketch to the Support Department.

-1 week later-

Today will be my first day at UA. I had already packed whatever I would need in my school bag, I had done my daily preparations, and I was ready to go.

Mom offered to take me there, but I didn't want to take any of her time that she could use to save people, so I declined, telling her that I would just run there.

"Have a good day at UA, sweetie! I'm excited to hear about your day when you come back!", Mom yelled as I stepped out of the lodge.

"Love you, Mom! See you later!", I yelled back, beginning to get into a run.

-1 hour later-

Well, here I am. UA High School. The hero school with the lowest acceptance rate in Japan.

Making my way into the school, I look for Class 1-A. I found it eventually. The door to enter it was giant.

-3rd POV-

Students were interacting with one another, generally making small talk. Introducing themselves, getting to know each other's likes, stuff like that.

Tenya Iida, Izuku Midoriya, Ochaco Uraraka were three such people. Introducing themselves to each other, getting to know one another, etcetera.

The same was happening with Mina Ashido, Ejiro Kirishima, Denki Kaminari and Hanta Sero.

Some other people who were doing this were Tsuyu Asui, Fumikage Tokoyami, Kyoka Jiro, Momo Yaoyorozu and Toru Hagakure.

The only two students who weren't doing any of this were Katsuki Bakugou and Shoto Todoroki.

Suddenly, the door to the classroom opened once more. The present students, surprised that there was another student that hadn't arrived yet, all instantly looked to the door.

There stood a large boy. The largest in the classroom, actually. Even taller than Shoji, who was 6"1 and a half feet tall.

He stood at 6"4. He had long, black hair, with white tips at the front. His eyes were a bright, cyan blue. He wore a tight gi-like outfit that lacked sleeves. He wore similar pants, looking to be in the style of pants commonly worn by martial artists. However, the thing that stood out the most was his build. He was incredibly fit. There was not an ounce of fat on his body, but at the same time, he wasn't overflowing with muscles. He had the perfect build. His build made him look more like an adult who was a professional body builder rather than a 15 year old teenager.

However, one of the stranger things about him was how he shifted his gaze to Izuku Midoriya, and glared intensely at him.

"Do you know this guy, Izuku?", Uraraka asked, whispering.

"No, this is the first time I've ever met him.", he responded, also whispering.

The actions of the boy also confused Bakugou, as he knew Izuku for a long time, and not once did he recall seeing him, especially not with Izuku. He never talked about him either.

So why was he glaring at him?

"Um, why are you glaring at me? Did I do something to offend you?", Izuku asked.

For a few seconds, there was no sound. The students awaited an answer from the boy, but he didn't seem like he was going to give one. However, after 8 seconds of silence, he responded. However, his response confused all the other students, except for Izuku himself.

"Something about you is not natural. You have something that didn't belong to you."

While the other students were extremely confused, Izuku was panicking.

-Izuku POV-

How?! Surely he doesn't know about One For All? Does he have some kind of mind reading Quirk?

Either way, this is really bad! Things will get really difficult if anyone finds out where I got my Quirk from, especially if they find out that I was Quirkless!

-3rd POV-

Before Izuku could respond, a man emerged from a sleeping bag. He introduced himself as their teacher, Shota Aizawa, gave them the P.E uniforms of UA and told them all to follow him for a test.

Momentarily ignoring that their teacher looked... dishevelled, to put it into the nicest terms possible, they followed him after they put their P.E uniforms on.

They were led to an open field area, a chalk circle in a clear area ahead of them.

"We'll be taking a Quirk Apprehension Test to see how proficient you all are with your Quirks. Since you couldn't use your Quirks in your previous schools, now's the time for you all to use them as much as you can. Chikyu, come here.", Aizawa said.

Chikyu walked to where Aizawa was, close to the chalk circle. All the other students now knew the name of the large boy. They also picked up on the fact that his name meant "Earth".

-Chikyu POV-

Aizawa handed me a softball.

"What was your furthest softball throw in middle school?", he asked me.

"100 metres.", I responded.

"Now use your Quirk to do it. Anything's fine, just as long as you stay within the circle."

I nodded and went to the middle of the circle.

Now, what would be the best way to do this? From what I can sense, there aren't any materials or chemicals that I can manipulate to simply make the ball fly as far as possible. Well, there is obviously carbon, but my control hasn't gotten to the point where I can manipulate any object that has tiny traces of carbon in it. I know I could do so eventually, but not yet.

There is something in it that I could slightly use: kapok fibre.

The cores of softballs, at least, ones used for professional and collegiate play, are either made of kapok fibre, a fibre obtained from the seed hairs of kapok trees, or polyurethane, a commonly encountered polymer.

Since kapok fibre originates from something related to earth, it's a thing I can manipulate. However, my control over it isn't that great. If I choose this, I could definitely make the ball float, but I wouldn't be able to absolutely launch it, at least, not as far as I would like. So back to the drawing board it is.

Looks like I'll have to use brute force. Actually, now's the perfect time to test something I came up with during last week.

I called it Drain. A simple name, but accurate to what it does. It would be more accurate to describe it as a different use of Geokinetic Healing than it would be to call it an entirely different technique, actually.

Throwing the softball in the air, I get ready.

I shifted my stance, putting my left leg forward, digging it into the dirt, while I placed my right leg back.

Doing the same thing I would do to activate Geokinetic Healing, I feel energy from the earth make it's way into my body. However, since I'm not damaged, the energy doesn't get used, and stays in my body, strengthening me. As the energy amount gets greater and greater, it starts visually affecting me. My hair begins to float and green and brown energy travels across my body. To make sure I get as much as I possibly can from this, I also cover my legs in a layer of earth/rock.

As the ball came back down, I kicked it with my outstretched right leg as hard as I possibly could. The ball absolutely launched into the air, going too far for us to see visually.

"1500 metres. This will be a test of what you all can do using your Quirks in a specific scenario."

(Canon Aizawa response about expelling. Y'all already know that I don't write the same canon lines that you've seen in hundreds of thousands of other fanfics already. That shit gets boring quickly.)

The first test we got was a 50 metre dash. I was put up against a guy with spiky, blonde hair who looked a sentient, angry dandelion.

As soon as we got the go, we instantly started. He propelled himself forward with consecutive explosive blasts, I skied on earth.

I beat him by a full second, making my time 3.13 seconds. He didn't take that very well.

"Don't go thinking you're better than me, extra! I'll beat you!", he yelled at me.

Oh great, a loud prick.

"Sure thing, Roasty Toasty Princess.", I responded.

Best way to get rid of loud ones like him is to give them annoying nicknames. And it seemed to work, as he fumingly stormed away.

Next up was grip strength. Not much of a big story there. I did the same thing I did with the ball throw, but channelled the energy into my arms. I scored 550 kilograms.

The next thing we got tested on were standing long jumps. Not much to say here either. I didn't even need to use my Quirk to clear the sandbox, but since this was a test for our Quirks, I did anyway. I just used Drain and effortlessly cleared the whole sandbox.

The last thing we got for a test was the ball throw. I already did it, so I didn't need to go again.

Some of them made rather good use of their abilities, and got decent results. One girl got infinity by just taking away the gravity of the softball. Sounds impressive when put into words, but it's literally the most basic thing you could do with that power in this case, so it's not as impressive to me as some of the others. It's like congratulating a boxer for being able to punch well.

The green haired one got a stern talking to from Aizawa for having held back so far, as well as, according to Aizawa, his Quirk damaging him too much for it to matter, so he would need to come up with something.

When he was allowed to go again, he channelled what I assumed was his Quirk into his finger, and launched the ball that way instead of using his whole arm.

There it is again. It's something that he only got recently, and it doesn't belong to him. It's from someone else.

Aizawa revealed that he was lying about the expulsion when he showed us the leaderboard. I was number one, the green haired boy, who was apparently named Izuku Midoriya, was last. He was definitely relieved upon hearing Aizawa say that he was lying.

To my surprise, that was the end of the first school day.

So, this is UA. I wonder what else is in store for us.

(Okay, I know I showed Zhongli's regular outfit, but, if you want Zhongli's outfit, would you rather have the one shown in the first picture below, or the second one below.
