The Girl Who Knew Too Much

For a split-second, nobody dared to move, they just stared at the man who stared back at them through his mask, it was like they were all under a spell.

Giovani broke out of it first.

"Freeze!"

The man bolted.

Giovani's pointless command snapped everyone out of their trance.

Kai was the closest and immediately chased after him, followed closely by Alex, Larry, Giovani and the cops on the scene, further behind was Camila.

The unknown man had almost scaled the chain fence he was climbing, but Kai, in a surprising show of agility leaped up and pulled him back down.

The man fell but Kai landed on his feet and kicked him flush in the face before he could get up.

The man swiftly took off the mask covering his face and groaned in pain.

"Jesus Christ, Doc! I recently got a nose-job!"

Kai gasped, immediately recognizing the voice.

He stopped Alex before the furious teen could attack Julian.

"KAI, LET ME GO, YOU SON OF A BITCH!!"

Giovani chuckled, already pulling out his handcuffs.

"Alright, pretty boy, you're under arres-"

"Detective, wait!" said Camila.

The others arrived too and stopped to look at Camila.

"He's not the killer."

Giovani frowned. "Of course he is! Davenport gave me the description. Black clothes, gloves, a Guy Fawkes mask and black boots."

"Hey, Sherlock." said Julian. "I'm wearing red sneakers, this is just a clown mask."

He held up the knife so they could see it.

"And the bloody knife is fake."

He got up, dusted his clothes, gave everyone a dirty look and stomped away.

Giovani groaned. "Dammit!"

Kai let go of Alex, who had his jaw clenched as they all started to double back to the crime scene, where Macy sat there sobbing, holding her friend tight.

Paul turned to his girlfriend.

"How did you know he wasn't The Slayer?"

"I.....um, I knew because I saw the fake knife."

Camila lied and walked away to avoid more questions.

**********MORNING*********

"Seems like long days are ahead of us." he said.

"Yep." Giovani replied with a sigh.

"At least we have a clue now. We know how the Slayer dresses to kill."

"Well, yeah, that's good. But why was Mia killed? And so brutally?"

Giovani said, as he scanned the pictures on the desk, pictures of Mia's body with fatal stab wounds everywhere, the gouged out eyes made things look even uglier.

"What did she do? What did she know?"

They turned when they heard a knock at the door.

Macy stood there, looking downcast.

"I think I might be able to help you with that."

CAMILA'S HOUSE

"Well, you really look upset." said Paul.

Camila was snuggled up against him, her eyes red from all the crying.

"Can you blame me? Our friend's dead."

"Yeah, I can't believe she's gone, but I can't stop thinking about what happened after. Nobody told you what the Slayer wears."

He sat up on the bed, next to Camila, who was avoiding his eyes.

"How did you know that guy wasn't the Slayer?"

HOSPITAL

Larry was being examined by Sara, while Kai checked his medical history.

"I think you're ready to be operated. We take out the tumor and that's it, you'll have to spend at least two days in the hospital afterwards. So, would you like to set a date?"

"I guess tomorrow will be fine." replied Larry. "But I need to tell some people about this."

"I thought you wanted to keep this a secret." said Kai.

"I did, but then I realized it was unfair. They are my friends after all. They deserve to know the truth."

"You're absolutely right." said Sara, smiling.

"I'll prepare everything. That's all, Larry. You can go."

Larry nodded. He thanked them and left.

POLICE STATION

Macy sat down and she gasped when her eyes caught sight of the pictures. Her eyes darted away.

"Can you please....?"

Davenport packed up the pictures and stashed them in a drawer.

"Ok, Mrs Westwood, what do you have for us?" asked Davenport.

Macy took a deep breath. "We were at Mrs Stark's wake. Mia was furious because of her death, and she hated seeing her boyfriend suffer. She told us she would find out who the killer was by herself and then tell the police."

The Filipina choked up at the thought of her dead friend.

"We told her it was dangerous! But she wouldn't listen! A-And now s-she is..."

Giovani gave her a glass of water.

"Who's We?" asked Davenport. "Who else knows about this?"

Macy sniffled. "Camila."

Davenport nodded. "Did Mia tell you about anything she might have found out?"

Macy shook her head. "No, she didn't. At that point, I don't think she knew anything."

Davenport got up. "Thank you, Mrs Westwood, I think that's all we need. Take care."

Macy nodded and left.

"So, what do you think?" asked Giovani.

"Well, if Mia was investigating, she must have had notes, photos, something we can find useful." replied Davenport. "I'm telling you, Gio. The Slayer's days are numbered."

CAMILA'S HOUSE

Camila sat up and faced him. "I told you, I just realized the knife was fake, that's how I knew."

"Come on. It's obvious you're hiding something."

Camila realized there was no escape. She sighed in defeat.

"His name is Julian Norman. We dated secretly in freshman year. It didn't last. He was obsessive, very possessive, and I overheard him telling his friends he'd bang me in no time. So, I broke up with him, and like two months later, he left town."

"Why didn't you tell anyone? Why didn't you tell me? Don't you trust me?"

"I do! But I felt ashamed. And just so you know, I told Kai about this."

"You told Kai but not me?"

Paul looked hurt.

"I had no choice. He found out by accident."

Paul rolled his eyes in disbelief.

"How did that happen?"

"Julian and I were arguing one day. Kai spotted us and thought he was harassing me. I had to explain everything."

"Okay..." started Paul. "But why did you hide him from us? From me? How? We used to hang out like all the time!"

"I sorted it out so we wouldn't be seen together whenever you guys were around."

"But why?"

"Because I knew you wouldn't approve. I knew none of you would like him. I didn't want to have problems with my friends."

Paul nodded "Yeah, that makes sense, I guess."

"That's why I knew he wasn't (insert name). I'm pretty sure he wasn't even in town when the murders started. I'm sorry I didn't tell you."

He kissed her. "I'm not mad. I'm actually glad you told me. Better late than never, right?"

Camila chuckled. "Right."

MIA'S HOUSE

Larry and Macy met at Mia's house.

Macy had agreed to pick the clothes Mia would wear to be buried, since her parents were busy arranging everything else, and Larry decided to tag along with her to.

"What do you think about this one?" asked Larry, as he stepped out of her closet holding a white dress.

"Nah," said Macy. "She'll look fat with that."

Larry chuckled. He went back in and picked up a black one.

"And this?"

She smiled. "Better. And with these shoes she'll look perfect."

They folded the clothes and packed them into a box.

A few minutes later, a man from the morgue arrived to pick up the clothes and took it to the morgue.

Larry sat her down in the living room.

"There's something I need to tell you. I won't have time to tell the others, so I need you to do it."

She nodded.

"Is everything ok?"

Larry sighed.

"Not exactly. I haven't been feeling well lately, so I went to the hospital where Kai and Sara checked me, they ran some tests. Turns out I have a tumor."

Macy gasped. "What?"

"It's in one of my lungs. They found it in time. All I need is surgery, they'll remove it and I'll be fine."

Macy hugged him tightly. "Oh, baby, I'm so sorry. Are you already scheduled for surgery?"

"Tomorrow. That's why I need you to tell the others. I don't think I'll be able to."

"I will." she said. "You're going to be just fine. They're gonna catch the Slayer and we'll resume our lives." She kissed him. "I love you."

"I love you too."

Minutes later, they were at Larry's house, where they made love as if it was their first time.
