Part 2

After 2 weeks of that dreadful Sunday, Mansi found herself outside the JFK Airport in New York.

She somehow got visa approved for USA and got out as soon as she could. She didn't know what she would do. But she was feeling free for the first time in her life. It felt right to be there.

Her best friend in India, Aditi Obroi, helped her with the whole process of getting here. She would sneak her clothes and essentials to Aditi's place during that 2 weeks duration.

All she had was one bag of everything she could bring from India and around Rs. 50,000 that was in her account and her savings.

She had written a letter for her family to not worry about her and that she would be fine. She would contact them when she would be ready. She tried to explain in that letter her reasons to do what she has done. She tried to explain why she had to get out of there. Why she felt trapped.

Now as she is standing outside the airport in New York, she has practically no idea as to what to do. She was tempted to go back. She remembered the teary goodbye she had with Aditi and her promised her to contact her everyday and give her updates as to what is going on. She missed her already.

But Mansi was determined to find herself. She picked up her bag and started walking in a random direction. It was 3 'o' clock in the afternoon and the sidewalks were bursting with people. She was fascinated with everything. She still couldn't believe that she was in New York. She was overwhelmed.

She walked around for a couple of hours when she came across a café that had a help needed sign. She went in knowing that she would need a job for her mere survival as she didn't have much money with her.

As she entered the café, she was mesmerized by its beauty. It had a cozy feeling to it. As she took in the smell of coffee and various food items, her stomach growled making her realize that she hadn't eaten anything since morning. But first things first, she had to talk about the job.

She approached the counter and asked the person behind it, "Hi, I am Mansi. I saw the help needed sign outside and thought maybe I can check out what the is."

The behind the counter studied Mansi for a few seconds making her feel very self-conscious and then gave her a bright smile.

"Of course, it would be great to have some help around here especially with the summer starting. I am Stella by the way. Come on I will take you to the manager. She is a bit strict but a softy at heart. So don't worry you will be fine." She said and led her to the back office of the café.

Mansi observed that Stella was a very hyper girl. She was filled with life. Mansi liked her instantly and thought I would love to have her as a friend. It would be good to atleast have someone to talk to.

Stella's happiness was contagious and Mansi followed her with a smile on her face and a new found confidence. She knew she could handle whatever was thrown her way.

She knew she made theright decision by coming here.
