CHAPTER 11

The next morning, at the arena Hiccup and Astrid, are taking their final test to see who will get to kill a dragon in front of the whole village. The dragon they are facing this time is a Gronckle.

"Hey uhh good luck and try to stay out of my way, "Astrid said adding the last part as a joke, but Hiccup took it seriously making Hela who was watching facepalm.

"You got it, Astrid," A random Viking said somewhere next to Hela.

Astrid took a deep breath and jumped over the obstacle she was hiding behind with a war cry her dull axe held high in her hand only to see the Gronckle on the ground with Hiccup standing beside it making her sigh since she wanted to prevent Hiccup from the choice of killing a dragon. She looked up at Hela who was deep in thought while the crowd cheered.

"So later," Hiccup says as he tries to leave but Gobber pulls him back by the collar.

"Not so fast"

"I'm kinda late for– – " Hiccup starts but is cut off by Stoick's voice.

"Okay, quiet down. The Elder has decided" Stoick says as Guthy walks forward. Gobber points to Astrid and Guthy shakes her head no, Gobber then points to Hiccup and she nods yes making the crowd cheer again.

"You've done it! You've done it, Hiccup! You get to kill the dragon" Gobber yells in excitement.

"Ha, Ha! That's my boy" Stoick says proudly.

"Heh. Oh yeah! Yes! I can't wait. I am so...

... LEAVING! We're leaving. Let's pack up. Looks like you and I are taking a little vacation, forever" Hiccup says only to hear a bark to his right scaring the shit out of him only to see Fenrir standing on the bolder,

"Oh thank Thor! It's just you Fenrir, don't do that" he says as he pets him on the head before realizing something,  "wait if you're here then where's my sister"

"I'm right here baby brother," Hela says behind him.

"AHHH! Oh for the love of- are you two trying to give me a heart attack?" Hiccup asks, Toothless making laughing noises in the background.

"I wouldn't dream of it baby brother I just like messing with you. You make the most interesting expressions." Hela tells him as she raffles his hair. Hiccups smile as he fixes his hair before his mind goes back to his final exam tomorrow.

"What am I gonna do Hela? My final exams tomorrow, dad and everyone in the village will be expecting me to kill that dragon, and I-" He rambles as he paces back and forth making Hela sigh.

"Alright calm down," Hela says and Hiccup shuts up," We'll think of something and come up with a plan but right now I want you and Toothless to go on a flight and relax, alright"

"Okay," Hiccup says as he gets on Toothless. Hela walks over to them.

"Don't take too long" She tells them before looking at Toothless," and take care of him for me ok?" Toothless nods before taking off. Hela sits down on a bolder as Fenrir walks over to her before licking her palm with a whine asking if she's ok making Hela smile.

"I'm ok buddy just have a lot on my mind", She tells him, Fenrir jumps on the bolder lays down next to her with his head on her lap, and Hela starts stroking his fur.

(Time skip)

Hiccup and Toothless come back a few hours later with Hiccup looking distressed as he dismounts from Toothless quickly. He sees Hela walking towards him followed by Astrid making him frown confused.

"She knows! I told her a while back" Hela says seeing his expression," anyway what happened, why do you look–"

"I found the Dragons nest", He says suddenly shocking them.

"WHAT"

"I mean Toothless did h– "

"What did you find," Hela asked seriously wanting to know why the dragons raid their livestock when their usual meal is fish. Hiccup told them everything he saw, how the dragons dumped the food they collected down a volcano where a gigantic dragon lives,  how it killed and eat a Gronckle for giving it a small fish how the dragons were terrified of it.

"What do we do now?" Astrid asks as she looks at Hela.

"I don't know, what we just heard was a lot to take in but give me until tomorrow we'll figure something out," Hela tells her before walking away.

(Arena)

"Well, I can show my face in public again" Stoick starts his speech and the crowd laughs, " If someone had told me that in just a few short weeks, Hiccup will go from being, well...  Hiccup, to placing first in dragon training...  Well, I would have tied him to a mast and shipped him off for fear he'd gone mad" the crowd laughs again, " Yes! And you know it! But here we are and no one is more surprised... Or more proud than I am well maybe Hela" The crowd laughs,  "Today, my boy becomes a Viking. TODAY, HE BECOMES ONE OF US!"

Hela and Astrid walk over to Hiccup who's standing at the entrance of the arena holding a shield and the helmet his dad gave to him.

"Be careful with that dragon" Astrid tells him.

"It's not the dragon I'm worried about," Hiccup says looking at his dad.

"What are you guys going to do" Astrid, asks both of them.

"Try to put an end to this" Hela replies.

"If something goes wrong–"

"If something goes wrong I'll step in you just try to stay focused ok brother," Hela tells him and he nods.

"Hey, sis" Hiccup calls out before she can walk away.

"Yes?"

"I know," He says and Hela just smiles knowing what he was talking about while Astrid looked confused, "I kind of overheard your conversation th–"

"I know," Hela says cutting him off and surprising him.

"You knew I was, there," Hiccup says.

"Yes, I knew, and even though I don't like how you eavesdropped on us" Hela glares making him gulp, " I was planning on telling you that night but you saved me the trouble of repeating myself so I'll let this one slide, but don't do that again"

" I won't," Hiccup says quickly.

"It's time Hiccup. Knock him dead" Gobber says making Hiccup walk into the arena while Hela goes to sit next to their father. Hiccup picks a dagger from the weapon stand.

"Hrmph, I would have gone for the hammer," Stoick says making Hela roll her eyes.

"I'm ready," Hiccup says before the log sealing the dragon in the cage is lifted up. The Monstrous Nightmare burst the doors open, its whole body lit with flames. It scales the arena wall up to the dome cage before breathing fire at the audience who dodge the stream of flame. It extinguishes its body before turning to Hiccup upside down and dropping down in front of him.

Hiccup drops the dagger and the shield as the Dragon approaches him slowly. Hiccup raises his hand up towards the Monstrous Nightmare.

"What is he doing," Stoick says while Hela stays focused ready to go in and save her brother if things go south.

"I'm not one of them," Hiccup says as he throws the helmet to the side.

"Stop the fight," Stoick says.

"No, you all need to see this" Hela says

"They're not what we think they are. We don't have to kill them" Hiccup says.

"I SAID STOP THE FIGHT," Stoick yells before slamming his hammer against the arena railing the sound overloaded Hela's senses causing her to black out. Frightened the Nightmare attacks Hiccup that being the last thing Hela saw before darkness consumed her.

"Hiccup" Hela yelled as she woke  up with a start.

"Hey it's ok Hiccup's fine his ok" Astrid tells her calming her down.

"Ugh, my ears are still ringing what happened. The last thing I remember is Hiccup being attacked." Hela asks.

"Well, Toothless came and saved Hiccup but he got caught in the process. Your dad and Hiccup got into a big argument and He slipped that found the dragon's nest and only a dragon can find it" Astrid said.

"Where is Hiccup now," Hela asked.

"Gathering the other kids to teach them how to ride dragons," Astrid said.

"Good go with them to make sure they don't do something stupid," Hela said as she got up.

"Where are you going," Astrid asked.

"I'm gonna get Troels I'll meet you at the arena," Hela said.

"Sound your positions, stay within earshot" Stoick yells as they go into the fog.

"Here" Viking #1

"One length to your stern" V #2

"On your starboard flank" V #3

"Three widths to port" V #4

"Ahead, at your bow" V #5

"Haven't a clue" V #6

"Listen...  Stock...  I was overhearing some of the men just now and, well, some of them are wondering what it is we are up to here— not me of  course, I know you're always the man with the plan– some, not me, are wondering if there is in fact a plan at all and what it might be" Gobber says.

"Find the nest and take it," Stoick says seriously.

"Ah, of course, send them running. The old Viking fall-back. Nice and simple" Gobber says but Stoick is focused on Toothless whose ears perked up his head following a sound they can't hear. Stoick walks to the back of the boat to steer it himself.

"Step aside"

"If you're planning on getting eaten I'd definitely go with the Gronckle," Fishlegs says as he and the others enter the arena.

"You were wise to seek help from the worlds most deadly weapon." Tuffnutt says acting serious confusing Hiccup," That's me," He adds before Snotlout pushes him to the as he gets into Hiccup's face.

"I love this plan" Snotlout says before Ruffnutt pushes him to the side as well which made him punch himself in the face since he had his hands in front of him.

"You're crazy. I like that" Ruffnutt says.

"Ok, that's enough, give him some space," Astrid says as she pulls Ruffnutt away from Hiccup.

"Astrid How is my sister doing," Hiccup asks.

"She's fine she'll be here in a minute so continue with the plan," Astrid says before walking towards Stormfly's cage and opening it, " Hey girl did you miss me"

As they continue to travel deeper into the fog they pass by one of their ships hanging upside down on a sea stack.

"Ah, I was wondering where that went," Gobber says. After a while, they arrive at the island shore.

"Stay low and ready your weapons. We're here" Stoick shouts as he jumped off the ship. The moment his feet touched the beach the sound that Toothless was hearing which got louder as they got closer to the island stops and it becomes eerily quiet.

At the arena, Hiccup released the Monstrous Nightmare and gently guides it toward Snotlout who gets scared and bends down to pick up a broken spear. Astrid hits his hand and shakes her head.

"Ah–uh," Astrid says making stand up.

"Wait. What are you–?" Snotlout says as Hiccup tries to take his hand.

"Relax. It's okay... It's okay" Hiccup tells him as he puts Snotlout's hand on the Nightmare's snout and moves away. Hela and Troels arrive but no one notices except Astrid and Stormfly.

"Where are you going?" Snotlout asked.

"You're gonna need something to help you hold on," Hiccup says as he takes out a rope. The other teens glance at the two other dragons that are out of their cages.

"I see no one was eaten yet, that's good" Hela says announcing her presence to the others the teens are surprised to see another Nightfury.

"There's another one" Snotlout says.

"This one looks older" Fishlegs says.

"Cool, look at all those scars" Tuffnutt says.

"Awesome" Ruffnutt says.

"You're enjoying this aren't you," Hela asks Troels who hums in agreement although Hela felt a mixture of emotions such as sadness, mourning, and anger when Tuffnutt mentioned his scars.

"Alright, everyone that's enough we've got a village to save and not enough time to waste so hurry up let' go" Hela tells them.

"When we crack this mountain open all hell is going to break loose" Stoick says.

"In my undies, good thing I brought extras," Gobber says

"No matter how this ends it ends today," Stoick says as he gives the signal to bombard the mountain with catapults until they broke a hole in the side of the mountain. Stoick stands at the entrance of the hole as a flaming ball of straws is catapulted in revealing thousands of dragons inside. Stoick charges in with a war cry but the dragons fly away in terror not a single one attacking.

"Is that it?" Rubber asks himself before shrugging.

"We've done it" Spitelout yells in excitement making the others join in the cheering. Stoick looks back at the hole and feels the ground shake a little.

"This is not over. Form your ranks hold together" Stoick yells as he takes a stance before a massive roar is heard and the mountain starts to crack.

"Get clear," Stoick yells as he jumps away from the falling rocks before a gigantic Dragon breaks out of the mountain and roars furiously.

"Beard of Thor, what is that" Gobber says in shock.

"Odin help us." Stock says as he orders to use the catapults which do nothing but annoy it.

"Get to the ships" Viking #3 yells which was a mistake since it drew the red death's attention to the ships which Stoick sees.

"No! NO!" Stoick yells but it's too last as the Dragon breaths a massive stream of fire on the ships.

"Smart that one" Gobber says.

"I was a fool," Stoick says now regretting not listening to Hiccup. He turns to Spitelout, " Lead the men to the far side of the island"

"Right, everyone to the far side of the island" Spitelout says.

"Gobber go with the men" Stoick tells him.

"I think I'll stay, just in case you're thinking of doing something crazy" Gobber replies.

"I buy them a few minutes if I give that thing someone to hunt" Stoick says.

"Then I can double that time" Gobber tells him making Stoick nod.

"Here" Stoick yells trying to get it's attention.

"Oh, no, HERE" Gobber joins in. Stoick picks up log with a sharp end and throws it at the Dragon nearly getting it in one of it's eyes which finally gets it's attention.

"Come on, bite me" Gobber continues.

"No me" Stoick says. Annoyed the Red Death tries to roast them but then Gobber and Stoick hear the famous whistling sound of a Nightfury before it gets blasted in the back of the head by a red plasma blast making it roar in pain as Hela and the others are seen flying on dragons.

"Ruff, Tuff, watch your backs, move Fishlegs" Hiccup tells them as he rides with his sister.

"LOOK AT US, WE'RE ON DRAGOMS! WE'RE ON DRAGONS! ALL OF US" Tuffnutt yells.

"Every bit the boar-headed, stubborn Viking you ever where" Gobber tells Stoick who nods absentmindedly shocked that his daughter was on a dragon let alone another Nightfury.

"Fishlegs, break it down,"  Hela says.

"Okay, heavily armored skull and tail made for bashing and crushing! Steer clear of both! Small eyes, large nostrils relies on hearing and smell" Fishlegs analyses.

"Okay, Lout, Legs, hang in it's blind spot! Make some noise! Keep it confused! Ruff, Tuff, find out if it has a shot limit, make it mad" Hiccup tells them.

"That's my specialty" Ruffnutt says.

"Since when? Everyone knows I'm more irritating see" Tuffnutt says as he turns the head he's on upside down.

"Just do what you're told" Hela yelled 'They're irritating me instead of the one they should' she thinks making Troels laugh. "Sigh, Astrid make sure these idiots don't get themselves killed"

"Don't worry, we got this covered you guys go get Toothless" Astrid says as they fly towards the Red Death Fishlegs and Snotlout go on either side of it's head with shields in hand which they start banging on while the twins start insulting it.

"Troll" Tuffnutt says.

"Butt-Elf" Ruffnutt joins.

"Bride of Grendel" Tuffnutt adds before it starts breathing fire on them but they dodge. Troels fly's them over the ships which are on fire looking for Toothless who Hiccup sees him.

"There" He says and Troels fly's over Hela and Hiccup jump on board. Hela starts removing the chains on Toothless's legs while Hiccup tries to remove the collar.

"It's working" Snotlout yells seeing it shake its head slightly.

"Yeah, it's working" Fishlegs agrees with him not realizing it's working on their dragons too as they start to sway the Nightmare hitting the Red Death throwing off Snotlout while the Gronckle starts to spin.

"I've lost power on the Gronckle. SNOTLOUT, DO SOMETHING" Fishlegs yells as he throws his hammer to Snotlout before the Gronckle hits the ground,  "I'm okay," He says before the Gronckle flips and lands on him, " less okay"

The Red Death tries to step on Fishlegs and the Gronckle but suddenly roars in pain and misses because Snotlout is hitting its right eyes with the hammer.

"I can't miss. What's wrong buddy, got something in your eye" Snotlout says.

It starts moving around to try and get the thing on its eye off. Hela who just finished ripping the chains on Toothless off goes to help Hiccup in removing the collar but the Red Death steps on the ship they were on throwing them all into the water.

Toothless sinks to the bottom Hela and Hiccup swim to him but when they get there Hiccup starts to lose air so she grabs her brother and brings out her wings to help propel them up faster. She passes their father who was swimming to help them shocking him with her wing but seeing that they were okay he goes to help Toothless.

Hela puts Hiccup on the ground and he  Immediately starts coughing and taking deep breaths as Troels lands next to them.

"Oh, thanks for the help by the way," Hela says sarcastically but Troels only looks at the Red Death making Hela look as well only to see it bleeding from its two left eyes which were missing and the area around them scorched. "Oh" She says before getting on him as Toothless jumps out of the water with Stoick who he gently puts on the ground and signals Hiccup to get on.

"You got it bud" Hiccup says.

"Hiccup, I'm sorry...  for– for everything" Stoick says.

"Yeah, me too," Hiccup says before Stoick looks at his daughter more specifically her wings.

"Yeah, it's a long story along with this guy," Hela says as she pets Troels's head making Stoick nod.

"You both don't have to go up there' Stoick tells them.

"We're Vikings," Hela says,

"It's an occupational hazard" Hiccup finishes.

"I'm proud to call you both my son and daughter," Stoick tells them.

"Thanks, Dad" they respond before Troels and Toothless take off.

"They're up! Get Snotlout out of there" Astrid tells the twins who start fighting over the two-headed Dragon they were on.

"I'm on it," they say at the same time.

"I'm on it first! I'm ahead of you" Tuffnutt says.

"Hey! Let me drive" Ruffnutt shouts not even concentrating on saving Snotlout who runs on top of the Red Deaths head and jumps onto their dragon.

"I can't believe that worked," Tuffnutt says as they fly away.

Astrid tries to join them but the Red Death starts to suck her and Stormfly in. The whistling sound of a Nightfury is heard.

"Nightfury, get down" Gobber yells before it gets blasted on the side making it lose a few teeth. The shock wave of the blast throws Astrid off Stormfly but Hela catches her bridal style.

"Are you okay?" Hela asks her as she puts her down at a safe distance.

"Yeah, I'm okay" Astrid says.

"Good," Hela says before kissing her. She walks for a bit before transforming into her second dragon form and flies back up. 

"That thing has wings" Hiccup says.

"You're only noticing that now," Hela says next to him scaring the crap out of him.

"Hela?" Hiccup asks surprised.

"Yes, now what were you planning?" She asks.

"That I'm gonna see if it can use them," He says as Toothless dive bombs and blasts it on the side knocking it to the ground. The Red Death seeing it was vulnerable on the ground it takes to the sky after them.

"Well, it can fly," Hiccup says.

"When I catch you I'm gonna rip you to shreds. You're going to pay for injuring my beautiful face" The Red Death roars.

"Your face was already ugly I just did you a favor," Troels tells her enraging her more and making Hela laugh.

"Okay, Toothless time to disappear, " Hiccup tells Toothless and they start heading up into the clouds Hela and Troels follow the Red Death breathes fire at them making Toothless dodge while Hela and Troels keep going not affected by the flames, seeing that burning them didn't work it tries to bite them but they disappear into the clouds.

Hiccup and Toothless concentrate on bombarding its wings while Hela and Troels go for the body since they have more firepower farther more Hela uses her spiked body to her advantage since she would dive bomb at the Red Death and roll into a spiked ball before igniting her body in flames like a Nightmare dealing serious damage to it.

The Red Death was losing altitude because of how injured it was so as a last-ditch effort it started shooting flames all around it. Toothless tries to avoid the flames which unfortunately hits his prosthetic tail fin but in doing so he failed to notice the gigantic tail coming towards them.

"Toothless look out" Hiccup yelled but it was too late to avoid. Hiccup gets knocked off Toothless and knocked out.

"Hiccup" Toothless roars in distress and fly's after him in hopes of getting to him in time since they were close to the ground.

"That's one annoying pest down"  The Red Death says which sets Hela into a blind rage. Her body starts to increase in size until she becomes the same size as the Red Death before letting out a massive roar.

She launches at it and bites it hard on the neck making it let out a pain-filled roar. It begins to spin and thrash around until it hit the ground which makes Hela let go. The Red Death tries to get up weakly but Hel doesn't let her so she decides to finish her. She grabs her face and opens it's mouth before building up her flames and fires incinerating it's insides and killing the Red Death. She lets out a roar before passing out and shrinking until she returns to her human form with her wing still out.

Troels lands next to her but when he sees her passed out he picks her up and brings her to Stoick who was holding Hiccup.

"Hela" He shouts as he gently passes Hiccup to Gobber before taking her in his arms. He lets out a sigh of relief as he sees her chest moving up and down before thanking Troels.

(TIME SKIP)

Hela lets out a groan as she wakes up. She opens her eyes to see that she is in her room which confuses her since the last thing she remembers is fighting the Red Death.

"You sure took your sweet time waking up" Troels says standing next to her bed.

"Troels what happened last thing I remember is fighting the Red Death and Hiccup..." Her eyes widen as she remembers him falling off Toothless before she can ask Troels answers her.

"Your brother is okay for the most since he lost his left leg"

"sigh, at least he's alive that's what matters the most. What about the Red Death?" Hela asks.

"You killed it in your blind rage quite brutally I might add" He says.

"Oh" Hela says as she nods her head before realizing something, "it seems I can understand you in my human form plus how long was I out?"

"It seems that way as for the second question you were out for week" Troels says before they both hear a commotion outside.

Hela gets up and makes her wings disappear. She takes her sword which was next to her bed and they head out to see what was going on.

"Turns out, all we need was a little bit of this" she here's her father say probably to Hiccup.

"But you just gestured to all of me" She hears Hiccup says confirming her guess. She pets Toothless on the head as she passes him before announcing her presence.

"Hey, don't forget about me I did most of the work." Hela said with a smirk.

"Hey look its Hela" Viking #1

"Hela, How are you doing lass" Viking #2

"Its great to see you up and about" Viking #3

"That you did lass, how are you feeling," Stoick asked as he brought her in for a hug.

"I'm as fit as Dragon father" Hela says.

"Literally," Troels says making her laugh.

"So I guess you an explanation" Hela tells Stoick who shakes his head.

"No need Astrid has already filled me in" Stoick says before said Astrid punches Hela in the shoulder.

"Ow" Hela exclaims.

"Oh shut up I know that didn't hurt" Astrid says as she rolls her eyes with a smile.

"It's the thought that counts," Hela says before grabbing her by the waist and kissing her.

"This is Berk" Hela starts as she gets on Troels and takes off after Hiccup and Toothless.

"it snows nine months of the year and hails the other three" Hiccup continues as Troels passes him and Toothless. "Any food that grows here are tough and tasteless"

"The people that grow here are even more so" Hela says as the other teens join them.

"The only upsides are the pets" Hiccup says.

"Companions" Hela corrects him but he continues.

"While other places have... ponies or parrots... We have–" Hiccup says as Hela jumps off Troels before transforming into her first dragon form.
